Why Your Logo Maker Choice Matters

A logo maker looks like a small purchase. You type your business name, pick a style, and a few minutes later you have something that looks professional. The real differences show up later, when you need the logo on a sign, an embroidered shirt, a favicon, or a trademark application.

Three things separate the good options from the frustrating ones:

  • What files you actually get. A single low-resolution PNG is fine for a social profile picture. It is not fine for a printed banner or a vehicle wrap. For that you need vector files (SVG, EPS or PDF) that scale to any size without going blurry, plus a PNG with a transparent background.
  • How you pay. Some tools sell a logo once. Others put the files, the editor, or the brand kit behind a yearly subscription. Neither is wrong, but you should know which you are signing up for before you spend an hour customizing a design.
  • What you own. Almost every tool says you own your logo. The fine print matters. Logos built from shared templates or stock icons are usually not exclusive to you, and that can block a trademark registration down the road.

This guide compares six logo makers that small businesses actually use in 2026: Looka, Brandmark, Tailor Brands, Canva, Wix Logo Maker (now Wixel) and Adobe Express. We checked every price, plan and file format on each vendor's own site in October 2026, and we quote the ownership and trademark wording where the vendor publishes it.

Note: earlier shortlists often included Hatchful by Shopify. The Hatchful address now redirects to Shopify's own free Logo Maker page, so we replaced it with Adobe Express, which has a clearer free plan and published pricing.

Looka Review

Looka is a dedicated AI logo maker. You enter your company name, pick styles and colors you like, and it generates a set of logo options you can edit. Designing is free; you pay only when you want the files.

Key features

  • AI-generated logo options based on your name, industry and style choices
  • Editor for fonts, colors, icons and layout
  • Logo packages sold as one-time purchases
  • Brand Kit subscription with 300+ branded templates: social profiles and posts, business cards, email signatures, letterheads, invoices and brand guidelines
  • Optional AI-generated website on the higher subscription

Pricing

Looka offers two ways to buy:

  • Basic Logo Package: $35 one-time. One low-resolution PNG file. That is enough for a quick social profile, not for print.
  • Premium Logo Package: $72 one-time. Multiple high-res file types (PNG, EPS, SVG, PDF), multiple color variations including transparent backgrounds, unlimited post-purchase changes, full ownership and lifetime technical support.
  • Brand Kit Subscription: $96/year, billed annually. Unlimited logo changes, hi-res and vector logo files, and 300+ ready-to-use branded assets.
  • Brand Kit Web Subscription: $129/year, billed annually. Everything in Brand Kit plus an AI-generated website.

Looka states that you keep full ownership of your logo even after a subscription ends.

Ownership and trademark

Looka's pricing FAQ is unusually clear. You get "full copyright of your logo as a whole, but not the individual elements (e.g. symbols)." If you want a legally binding trademark, Looka tells you to contact the trademark office in your country. In practice that means the icon in your Looka logo may also appear in other people's logos, so a distinctive wordmark is the safer route if trademarking matters to you.

Pros

  • The $72 Premium package covers every file format most small businesses need
  • Unlimited edits after purchase (everything except the company name)
  • Brand Kit saves real time if you need business cards, social graphics and email signatures
  • You keep the logo after a subscription lapses

Cons

  • The $35 Basic package is a single low-res PNG, which most buyers will outgrow quickly
  • No copyright in individual symbols, which matters for trademark plans
  • Its G2 profile has only a small number of reviews, with a mixed average

Who it's for

Founders and small businesses who want a logo plus a consistent set of branded materials without hiring a designer.

Who should skip it

Anyone who only needs a quick profile image (a free tool will do) or anyone who needs a fully unique, trademark-ready mark (hire a designer).

Brandmark Review

Brandmark is an AI logo maker that leans on hand-crafted fonts and templates, with icons that can be created with generative AI. You can try it without an account and generate as many logo ideas as you like before paying.

Key features

  • Unlimited free logo generation, no account needed to try
  • Export to SVG, PNG and PDF
  • Edit your logo at any time, even after purchase
  • Higher packages add brand guidelines, business cards, social media designs, presentation designs and one-page websites

Pricing

All packages are one-time payments. Brandmark says plainly: "No monthly charges."

  • Basic: $35 one-time. Logo files in PNG and vector format.
  • Designer: $95 one-time. Logo source files, unlimited design revisions, brand guidelines, one-page websites, business card designs, social media designs and presentation designs.
  • Enterprise: $195 one-time. Everything in Designer, plus up to 10 original hand-crafted concepts and font download.

Ownership and trademark

Brandmark advertises "Full copyright included" for use in commercial and personal projects. It does not address trademark registration on its pricing page, so check with a trademark attorney if registration is part of your plan, especially if the logo uses a generated or template icon.

Pros

  • The cheapest package already includes vector files, which is rare
  • One-time pricing with no subscription
  • Free generation lets you explore properly before paying
  • The Enterprise tier adds human-made concepts, a useful middle ground before hiring an agency

Cons

  • No published refund details on the pricing page
  • Fewer branded templates than Looka's Brand Kit or Canva
  • No G2 profile we could verify, so there is little independent review data

Who it's for

Budget-conscious founders who want proper vector files for a one-time price.

Who should skip it

Teams that need an ongoing design tool for social posts and marketing materials. A subscription editor like Canva or Adobe Express fits better.

Tailor Brands Review

Tailor Brands started as an AI logo maker and has since grown into a business formation service. Its logo tool is still available: you enter your business details, choose a logo style (wordmark, monogram or icon) and fonts, and it generates options you can customize.

Key features

  • AI logo generator with a guided six-step flow
  • Design studio with logo variations, 21 resized social media versions and a brand book
  • Branded assets such as letterheads, seasonal logos and business cards
  • Trademark registration service (extra cost)
  • LLC formation, website builder and bookkeeping in the wider platform

Pricing

You can design a logo for free and download a low-resolution version. Tailor Brands says high-resolution vector files (EPS, SVG and PNG with transparent background) require payment. It does not publish a standalone logo price on its website; you see it after you design.

Its published pricing now centers on business formation packages, and each one lists "8 free logos":

  • Lite: $0 plus state fees
  • Essential: $199/year plus state fees
  • Elite: $249/year plus state fees (adds a DIY website or online store)

All plans include a 30-day bookkeeping trial that then costs $39/month unless you cancel. Read the checkout page carefully.

Ownership and trademark

Tailor Brands says you have full commercial rights once you make and purchase a logo. It also offers trademark registration for your logo as an additional paid service.

Pros

  • Logo, LLC formation and trademark help in one place
  • Free low-res download to test your logo
  • Vector EPS and SVG files available on paid access

Cons

  • No published standalone logo price, which makes comparison harder
  • Recurring add-ons (like the bookkeeping trial) can surprise buyers
  • No G2 reviews to speak of, so independent feedback is limited

Who it's for

People starting a new business who want the logo, legal formation and basic branding handled together.

Who should skip it

Anyone who just wants logo files at a clear, upfront price. Looka and Brandmark publish theirs.

Canva Review

Canva is not a dedicated logo maker. It is a general design platform with logo templates, an AI logo generator, and the tools to put your logo on everything else: social posts, presentations, flyers and merchandise.

Key features

  • Huge template library (1.6M+ templates on Free, 3.6M+ on Pro)
  • Brand Kits for colors, fonts and logos (1 Brand Kit with 3 colors on Free, 5 on Pro, 100 on Business)
  • AI tools including background removal and resizing on Pro
  • Download as PNG, JPG, PDF and SVG (SVG and transparent PNG on paid plans)

Pricing

  • Free: $0. Templates, stock content and 1 Brand Kit (3 colors only).
  • Pro: $144/year for one person. Premium templates and content, AI tools, 5 Brand Kits.
  • Business: $250/year per person. Team collaboration, 100 Brand Kits and approvals.
  • Enterprise: contact sales.

Two download limits matter for logos. Canva's help center says transparent PNGs and SVG downloads are only available on paid plans (Pro, Teams, Business, Education and Nonprofits). And if a free design uses premium elements, you must buy a Pro content license, upgrade, or download a watermarked draft.

Ownership and trademark

This is Canva's biggest caveat for logos. Canva's help article on trademarking logos says its logo templates "are customizable and can be used by anyone. This means that your rights to the logo are non-exclusive and you can't register it as a trademark."

Canva does say you can create a trademark-eligible logo in Canva if you design it from scratch using its fonts and simple lines and shapes, or if you upload your own original artwork. You cannot use stock photos, graphics or illustrations from Canva's library in a logo you plan to trademark. Canva also does not sell exclusive rights to its graphics.

Pros

  • Best tool here for everything that comes after the logo
  • Generous free plan for general design
  • Brand Kits keep colors, fonts and logos consistent across a team
  • G2 rating of 4.7 from more than 7,700 reviews

Cons

  • Template logos cannot be trademarked under Canva's rules
  • SVG and transparent PNG downloads need a paid plan
  • The free Brand Kit is limited to 3 colors

Who it's for

Small teams and creators who will produce a lot of branded content and want one tool for it all.

Who should skip it

Anyone who wants a unique, registrable logo from a template. Use Canva for the content around your logo, not the mark itself, unless you build the logo from fonts and simple shapes.

Wix Logo Maker (Wixel) Review

Wix has moved logo design into Wixel, its AI design platform. Wix's help center says Wixel "is now the main place to create new logos and visual assets with Wix." The older Wix Logo Maker still exists with limited AI support, and logos made there stay in your Brand Studio.

Key features

  • Aria, an AI design agent that suggests logo ideas, colors and fonts based on your business
  • Templates and manual editing of text, fonts, colors, icons and layout
  • Themes that carry your logo colors into social posts, videos, forms and documents
  • Exports in PNG, JPG and SVG

Pricing

Wixel uses AI credits. Generating or editing a logo with AI uses credits; manual edits do not. Wix says downloading the finished logo as a high-quality file is free, and every plan includes downloads in any quality and format.

  • Free: $0. 120 AI credits per month (max 30 per day), roughly up to 20 logos.
  • Basic: $90/year. 350 AI credits per month.
  • Pro: $290/year. 850 AI credits per month, plus a free Wix website plan and domain on yearly billing.
  • Max: $590/year. 2,000 AI credits per month, plus a free Wix website plan and domain on yearly billing.

Monthly billing is available; the yearly price saves two months. Logo counts per plan are Wix's own estimates.

If you still use the older Wix Logo Maker, its plans are billed separately from Wixel and unlock high-resolution PNGs, vector files and brand kit assets per logo.

Ownership and trademark

Wix says the icons and fonts in its library are licensed for commercial use, and notes these elements are shared across users. As with Canva, a logo built from shared library icons will not be exclusive to you.

Pros

  • The only tool here where a free account can download SVG files
  • Credit-based pricing means you only pay if you need lots of AI generations
  • Easy to carry the logo into a Wix website

Cons

  • The move from Wix Logo Maker to Wixel can be confusing; the two have separate plans
  • Shared icons limit how unique the result is
  • No separate G2 profile for the logo tool

Who it's for

Budget-conscious founders, especially those building a site on Wix, who want proper files without paying.

Who should skip it

Businesses that want a guided brand kit with business cards and stationery templates in one purchase. Looka is more complete there.

Adobe Express Review

Adobe Express is Adobe's quick design app for non-designers. Its logo maker uses templates and, in some regions, Adobe Firefly generative AI to create graphics, text effects and color variations. Every design stays editable.

Key features

  • Logo templates plus Firefly-powered AI tools (region-dependent)
  • 4,000+ Adobe Fonts on Free; 30,000+ on Premium
  • Brand kits on Premium so your logo, colors and fonts apply to future designs
  • One-click resize for multiple channels on Premium
  • Logo downloads as PNG, JPG or PDF (500px square by default)

Pricing

  • Free: $0. Basic editing tools, 100,000+ templates, 1M+ Adobe Stock assets, 5GB storage.
  • Premium: $9.99/month. Billed monthly with no annual commitment. All premium templates, 200M+ Adobe Stock assets, the full Adobe Fonts collection, 250 generative credits per month, brand kits and 100GB storage. 30-day free trial.
  • Firefly Pro: $19.99/month. Premium features plus 4,000 monthly generative credits for AI video and audio, and Photoshop on web and mobile.

Adobe Express Premium is also included in some Creative Cloud plans.

Ownership and trademark

Adobe's logo maker page does not address trademark registration. The same logic as Canva applies: template designs and stock graphics are available to other users, so build your mark from type and your own shapes if you plan to register it, and check Adobe's current terms before filing.

Pros

  • Low monthly price with no annual commitment
  • Excellent font library through Adobe Fonts
  • Good fit if you already use Photoshop or Illustrator
  • G2 rating of 4.5 from more than 850 reviews

Cons

  • Logo downloads are PNG, JPG or PDF, not SVG
  • AI generation is not available in every region
  • Less specialized for logos than Looka or Brandmark

Who it's for

Marketers and creators who already work in Adobe tools and need a logo plus ongoing social content.

Who should skip it

Anyone who needs SVG or EPS files for a sign maker or printer. Use Looka Premium, Brandmark, or Wixel.

Head-to-Head: The Criteria That Matter

File formats

For most businesses, the minimum useful set is a transparent PNG for the web and a vector file (SVG, EPS or PDF) for print.

  • Looka Premium ($72): PNG, EPS, SVG and PDF, with transparent and color variations.
  • Brandmark Basic ($35): PNG and vector; Brandmark exports to SVG, PNG and PDF.
  • Tailor Brands (paid): EPS, SVG and transparent PNG.
  • Wixel (free and paid): PNG, JPG and SVG.
  • Canva: SVG and transparent PNG on paid plans only.
  • Adobe Express: PNG, JPG or PDF.

One-time vs subscription

  • One-time: Looka logo packages ($35 or $72) and all Brandmark packages ($35, $95, $195).
  • Subscription: Looka Brand Kit ($96 or $129/year), Canva Pro ($144/year), Wixel paid plans (from $90/year), Adobe Express Premium ($9.99/month).
  • Bundled: Tailor Brands logos sit inside its business formation packages.

If you only need the logo once, a one-time package is usually cheaper over two or three years. If you will design social posts every week, a subscription editor earns its keep.

Ownership and trademark

  • Looka: full copyright of the logo as a whole, not individual symbols.
  • Brandmark: full copyright included.
  • Tailor Brands: full commercial rights after purchase; trademark registration offered at extra cost.
  • Canva: template logos cannot be trademarked; logos built from fonts, simple shapes or your own uploads can be.
  • Wixel: library icons and fonts licensed for commercial use but shared across users.
  • Adobe Express: no trademark guidance on the logo page.

No logo maker can guarantee your logo is registrable. A trademark office looks at distinctiveness and conflicts with existing marks. If the logo is central to your business, a short consultation with a trademark attorney is worth more than any upgrade.

Free options

  • Wixel: free account, free high-quality downloads including SVG, limited by AI credits.
  • Canva Free: free PNG and JPG downloads; no transparent PNG or SVG.
  • Adobe Express Free: free templates and downloads in PNG, JPG or PDF.
  • Tailor Brands: free low-resolution download.
  • Looka and Brandmark: free to design and generate; files require purchase.
  • Shopify Logo Maker: Shopify describes its logo maker (where the old Hatchful address now points) as completely free.

Brand kit and what comes next

A logo alone rarely covers launch needs. Looka's Brand Kit and Brandmark's Designer package add business cards, social graphics and guidelines. Canva and Adobe Express go further for ongoing content, since they are full design tools with brand kits built in.

How to Choose

Answer these four questions, in order:

  1. Do you need print-ready vector files? If yes, rule out Canva Free and Adobe Express for the logo itself. Shortlist Looka Premium, Brandmark or Wixel.
  2. Do you plan to register a trademark? If yes, avoid template logos (Canva says plainly they cannot be registered) and favor a simple, distinctive wordmark. Consider a designer for the final mark.
  3. Will you design marketing materials every week? If yes, budget for Canva Pro or Adobe Express Premium regardless of where the logo comes from. You can upload a Looka or Brandmark logo into either one.
  4. Do you want to pay once? Choose Brandmark ($35 with vector files) or Looka Premium ($72). If you are also forming an LLC, compare Tailor Brands' bundles.

Red flags at checkout

  • A "logo package" that includes only one low-resolution PNG
  • A free trial that converts into a monthly charge (check every add-on)
  • No mention of vector files anywhere on the plan
  • Vague ownership language with no mention of trademarks

Final Recommendations

Looka: best overall for small businesses

The Premium Logo Package at $72 one-time covers every file format you are likely to need, and the Brand Kit subscription is useful if you want ready-made business cards, social graphics and email signatures. Skip the $35 Basic package unless you truly only need one web PNG.

Brandmark: best value one-time purchase

At $35, Brandmark is the cheapest way here to get vector files and full copyright without a subscription. Step up to Designer ($95) if you want brand guidelines and stationery designs.

Tailor Brands: best for new businesses forming an LLC

If you are registering a company anyway, the logo comes bundled, and trademark help is available. Watch the recurring add-ons at checkout.

Use Canva to design your social posts, decks and flyers. If you make the logo in Canva too, build it from fonts and simple shapes so it remains eligible for trademark registration.

Wix Logo Maker (Wixel): best free download

Free SVG and PNG downloads make Wixel the strongest no-cost option. Upgrade only if you run out of AI credits.

Adobe Express: best for Adobe users

At $9.99/month with no annual commitment, Premium is easy to try. Just note that logo downloads are PNG, JPG or PDF.

Conclusion

The best logo maker is the one that gives you the right files and the right rights for your plans. For most small businesses, Looka's Premium package or Brandmark's Basic package delivers print-ready vector files for a one-time price. Wixel is the best place to start if you want to spend nothing. Canva and Adobe Express are the tools to keep using after launch.

Before you pay, check three things: that vector files are included, whether the price is one-time or recurring, and what the vendor says about trademarks. Those three answers matter more than how many logo ideas the AI can generate.

Frequently asked questions

Brandmark. Its Basic package is $35 one-time and includes PNG and vector logo files. Wixel lets free accounts download SVG files too, but AI generation is limited by monthly credits.
