Why Deel vs Remote Is the Comparison Most Global Teams End Up Making
If you want to hire someone in a country where your company has no legal entity, you have three realistic options: set up an entity yourself, engage the person as a contractor, or use an Employer of Record (EOR) that employs them on your behalf. Deel and Remote are the two names that come up first for the second and third options, and they now look very similar on paper. Both publish an EOR price of $599 per employee per month. Both sell contractor management, Contractor of Record, global payroll for your own entities and a US PEO. Both pitch an "all in one" platform.
The differences sit one level down: what you pay per contractor, how many countries each vendor says it covers through its own entities, which extras (IT, immigration, HR tooling, equity) are sold as priced add-ons, and how each handles misclassification risk. Those details decide whether your monthly bill for a small international team is $2,000 or $5,000. Remember that an EOR fee sits on top of salary, employer contributions and benefits, so the fees below are platform costs, not the total cost of a hire.
This guide compares Deel and Remote dimension by dimension using the prices and claims each vendor publishes on its own website (checked October 2026). Then it covers four alternatives worth a look: Oyster, Rippling, Papaya Global and Pebl (the company formerly called Velocity Global). Where a vendor does not publish a price, we say so instead of estimating.
Deel vs Remote vs Alternatives: Comparison Table
| Tool | Starting price (EOR) | Best for | Standout | Our take |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Deel | $599 per EOR employee/month | Teams that want one vendor for everything global | Widest product range (HR, IT, immigration, payroll, EOR, PEO) | The broadest platform; contractors cost more than at Remote |
| Remote | $599 per employee/month | Cost-conscious teams with many contractors | Contractor Management from $29, owned-entity EOR model | Best published value for contractor-heavy teams |
| Oyster | $699 per employee/month | Small teams that want simple published pricing | 30-day free contractor trial, annual EOR seats | Clear pricing, but the highest list EOR fee here |
| Rippling | Custom quote | Companies already on Rippling for US HR and IT | EOR, payroll, HRIS and IT in one employee record | Strong if you are in the Rippling ecosystem; no published global prices |
| Papaya Global | From $499 per employee/month | Enterprises running payroll in many countries | Payroll across 180+ countries, payments infrastructure | Built for scale; quotes still required |
| Pebl (formerly Velocity Global) | $399 per employee/month | Companies that only need EOR | Lowest published EOR price in this group | EOR-focused; pricing varies by country, so get a quote |
Pricing Head-to-Head: Deel vs Remote
Here is what each vendor lists on its own pricing page today. All prices are in US dollars, per person per month.
| Product | Deel | Remote |
|---|---|---|
| Employer of Record | $599 per EOR employee | Starting at $599 per employee |
| Contractor management (you hold the contract) | $49 per contractor | Starting at $29 per contractor (Contractor Management) |
| Contractor management with indemnity | Not offered as a separate published tier | Starting at $99 per contractor (Contractor Management Plus, $100,000 indemnity per contractor, up to $1M per company) |
| Contractor of Record (vendor holds the contract) | $325 per contractor of record | Starting at $325 per contractor |
| Global payroll (your own entities) | $29 per employee (Deel Payroll: Global) | Starting at $29 per employee |
| US PEO | $125 per US PEO employee on the Hire tab; PEO Starter $110 and PEO Pro $120 per employee on the Pay tab | Starting at $99 per employee |
| HR software (HRIS) | Deel HR Core $5, Advanced $19, Elite $29 per employee | No HRIS plan listed on the current pricing page |
| Equity administration for EOR employees | Not listed on the pricing page | Remote Equity, $39 per EOR employee who receives equity |
| IT and devices | Deel IT Starter $49, Growth $139, Scale $149 per user | Device Management (fulfilled by Fleet), price not published |
| Immigration | Managed Immigration, price not published | Relocation and mobility support, price not published |
| Startup discount | None listed on the pricing page | 15% off EOR and Contractor Management for the first 12 months (pre-seed, seed or Series A) |
| Platform or base fee | None listed | "Remote Platform included, no base fee" |
A few things stand out.
EOR is a tie at list price. Both vendors publish $599 per employee per month. Remote words it as "starting at", which means some countries can cost more. Deel's pricing page shows a flat $599 per EOR employee. Neither vendor publishes a country-by-country fee table, so get a written quote for the specific countries you plan to hire in before you assume the list price applies.
Contractors are where the bills diverge. Remote's base Contractor Management plan is $29 per contractor per month against Deel's $49. Remote also says you only pay for contractors you actively work with that month. For a team of 10 contractors, that is $290 vs $490 a month, or $2,400 a year in Remote's favor.
Contractor of Record is priced the same. If you want the vendor to hold the contract and take on misclassification risk, both list $325 per contractor per month. Remote's page specifies "uncapped indemnity" for its Contractor of Record and IP transfer through "Remote IP Guard".
Remote has a middle tier. Contractor Management Plus at $99 adds $100,000 of misclassification indemnity per contractor (capped at $1M per company over the term) and Remote-drafted contracts. Deel does not show an equivalent priced tier between its $49 contractor plan and $325 Contractor of Record.
Billing terms. Deel's FAQ says it offers "flexible month-to-month pricing with no long-term commitments required". Remote says there are "no setup or onboarding fees" and no standard deposit, but that "in certain circumstances, Remote may require a refundable reserve payment" which it discloses during onboarding. Remote also says it locks one FX rate per monthly billing cycle. Remote's contractor page mentions a 3.5% service charge for credit card payments.
Free Tiers: Is Any of This Free?
Not much, and less than older reviews suggest.
- Deel HR. When Deel launched Deel HR in 2023, its announcement said the HRIS was free for companies with fewer than 200 people. The current Deel pricing page does not show a free HR plan: Deel HR Core is listed at $5 per employee per month, with Advanced at $19 and Elite at $29. If a free tier still exists for your situation, get it confirmed in writing.
- Remote HR Management. Some of Remote's product pages have described a free HR Management tool for employees on your own entities. The current Remote pricing page lists no free plan, so treat it as unconfirmed until sales confirms it for your account.
- Free tools. Deel advertises a free self-serve visa eligibility tool. Both vendors publish free employment cost calculators and country hiring guides.
- Trials. Neither Deel nor Remote lists a free trial for EOR. Among the alternatives, Oyster offers its Global Contractors product free for 30 days.
Country Coverage and Entity Ownership
This is the most important technical difference between the two, and also the most confusing because of how vendors word it.
Deel. The pricing page says EOR provides "full legal employment in 130+ countries globally" (another card on the same page says 150+). Deel's EOR product page says Deel owns "entities and payroll engine in 130+ countries". Deel's own payroll for your entities is listed at 130+ countries, and its headline figure for the overall platform is 150+ countries.
Remote. Remote says its EOR covers "90+ countries" and highlights "100% owned entities, no third parties" with "100+ entities owned and operated by Remote". Contractor Management covers 190+ countries, and contractor payouts are available in 70+ currencies.
What this means in practice:
- If you need to hire in a country that is on Deel's list but not Remote's, the decision is made for you. Check both vendors' country pages for your exact countries before you compare anything else.
- Remote's owned-entity message matters because when an EOR uses a local partner, there is another company in the chain handling payroll and contracts. Remote says it uses none. Deel says it owns entities in 130+ countries; ask whether any country you plan to hire in runs through a partner.
Feature-by-Feature: Deel vs Remote
Onboarding speed
Deel says it can onboard a new EOR employee "in as little as one day". Remote says its average EOR onboarding time is three days. Both depend on the country, background checks and how fast the employee returns documents, so plan for longer in countries with heavier paperwork.
Benefits
Both vendors provide statutory benefits as part of EOR and offer supplemental benefits on top. Deel's pricing page lists "healthcare, dental, vision, mental health, fertility, and 401(k)" across EOR and PEO, and sells Benefits Management: Global for companies using Deel Payroll at $10 per employee per month. Remote describes "competitive, flexible and localized benefits" and says it handles enrollment and administration. Neither publishes a per-country benefits price list; benefits premiums are an employment cost on top of the EOR fee.
Equity for international employees
Remote is unusually specific here. Its EOR FAQ says Remote Equity costs $39 per employee per month for EOR employees who receive equity, on top of the EOR fee, and connects to Carta or Pulley. Remote says it reviews whether your plan works in the employee's country and handles withholding when grants vest or are exercised. Deel's pricing page doesn't list an equity product price.
Compliance and misclassification
Both vendors act as the legal employer for EOR staff, so employment law compliance in that country is their job. The differences show up with contractors:
- Deel's $49 contractor plan includes "worker classification compliance" tooling, and Deel Contractor of Record ($325) shifts liability to Deel.
- Remote's $29 plan includes compliance screening and 1099-NEC generation. The $99 Plus plan adds $100,000 indemnity per contractor. Its $325 Contractor of Record adds uncapped indemnity, with misclassification and local compliance coverage, subject to its service terms.
Remote lists SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 on its EOR page. Deel says it has "200+ legal experts specialized in employment regulations". Ask both for their current security reports during procurement.
Intellectual property protection
IP assignment is a common worry with international hires and contractors. Deel's EOR page says Deel has "the strongest intellectual property protection clauses built into our contracts", and that "any and all IP passes through to you". Remote's Contractor of Record includes IP transfer "handled in the contract with Remote IP Guard". For EOR staff and for contractors on the cheaper plans with either vendor, have your counsel review the IP clause in the template agreement, especially in countries where IP assignment needs specific wording to be enforceable.
Equipment and IT
Deel sells IT as its own product line, with published prices per user per month: Starter $49 (device lifecycle management, MDM, endpoint protection), Growth $139 (adds 24/7 global IT support) and Scale $149 (adds access management). Remote offers Device Management inside its onboarding flow, fulfilled by Fleet, a third-party IT equipment rental and logistics provider, with optional MDM. Remote does not publish a device price. If you want laptops shipped, retrieved and secured worldwide on one invoice, Deel has the more complete published offer.
Immigration and visa support
Deel sells Managed Immigration, described as end-to-end support with in-house attorneys, work and residence permits, business visas, right-to-work checks and sponsorship through Deel EOR entities. Its immigration page says it supports visas in 50+ countries. Pricing is not published ("prices vary between visa types"). Deel also offers a free visa eligibility assessment. Remote lists Relocation and Mobility "with expert visa and compliance support" among its products but does not publish coverage numbers or prices. If sponsoring visas is central to your hiring plan, Deel has the more developed published offer; get quotes from both.
Global payroll for your own entities
Once you open your own entity in a country, both vendors can run payroll there for $29 per employee per month. Deel's Global Payroll covers 130+ countries and includes a dedicated payroll manager on the managed option; it also sells add-ons such as Payroll Connect ($5 per employee) for consolidating other in-country vendors, Treasury ($10) and Expenses (from $8). Remote's Global Payroll includes gross-to-net calculations, tax filings, time-off and expense sync, and country-level reporting, with "self-serve or fully managed with a specialist" options.
HR software
Deel sells its HRIS openly in three tiers (Core $5, Advanced $19 with performance, goals and learning, Elite $29 with compensation and headcount planning), plus an ATS add-on from $10 per employee and a "Find talent" hiring product at $14 per worker per month. Remote includes the Remote Platform with every product and lists performance management, time and attendance and HR workflows among its features, but its pricing page doesn't show a standalone HRIS price. If you want to use the same vendor as your HRIS for direct employees, Deel's offer is easier to price.
Integrations and API
Both vendors integrate with the common HRIS and accounting tools. Deel's marketplace lists 16 categories, including QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite and Sage for accounting, BambooHR, HiBob, Personio and Workday for HR, and Greenhouse and Ashby for recruiting. Remote's help center lists BambooHR, HiBob, Workday, Personio and Humaans for HR, Xero, QuickBooks and NetSuite for accounting, Greenhouse for recruiting, Okta SCIM, Slack and Zapier, plus a public API, an MCP server and a CLI.
Support
Deel advertises "24/7 help across continents in your language and time zone" on its EOR page. Remote advertises onboarding "with a dedicated specialist" and "in-house experts for ongoing support". Neither publishes response-time guarantees on its pricing page. Ask about support hours and escalation paths for payroll errors specifically, because that is where slow support hurts most.
Worked Cost Examples
These examples use only published list prices. They exclude salaries, employer taxes, benefits premiums, FX margins, deposits and any negotiated discounts. Monthly figures multiplied by 12 for annual.
Example 1: 3 EOR employees + 10 contractors
| Vendor | EOR (3 people) | Contractors (10) | Monthly total | Annual total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Deel | 3 x $599 = $1,797 | 10 x $49 = $490 | $2,287 | $27,444 |
| Remote (Contractor Management) | 3 x $599 = $1,797 | 10 x $29 = $290 | $2,087 | $25,044 |
| Remote (Contractor Management Plus) | $1,797 | 10 x $99 = $990 | $2,787 | $33,444 |
| Remote with startup discount (15% off EOR and Contractor Management, first 12 months) | $1,797 x 0.85 = $1,527.45 | $290 x 0.85 = $246.50 | $1,773.95 | $21,287.40 |
| Oyster | 3 x $699 = $2,097 | 10 x $29 = $290 | $2,387 | $28,644 (first month of contractors free under the 30-day trial) |
If you want the vendor to take on full contractor risk, both Deel and Remote price Contractor of Record at $325: 3 x $599 + 10 x $325 = $5,047 per month, or $60,564 per year, at either vendor.
Example 2: 10 EOR employees + 25 contractors
| Vendor | EOR (10) | Contractors (25) | Monthly total | Annual total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Deel | $5,990 | 25 x $49 = $1,225 | $7,215 | $86,580 |
| Remote | $5,990 | 25 x $29 = $725 | $6,715 | $80,580 |
| Oyster | $6,990 | 25 x $29 = $725 | $7,715 | $92,580 |
At this size, the $200 per month EOR gap between Remote or Deel and Oyster adds up to $1,000 a month, and Remote's contractor pricing saves $500 a month over Deel. At ten or more EOR employees, ask every vendor for a volume quote; Remote's EOR page explicitly invites you to "talk to our team for discounts at scale".
What these examples leave out
- Papaya Global lists EOR "starting from $499" and contractor management "starting from $5", but each card says "Get a Quote". On starting prices alone, Example 1 would be 3 x $499 + 10 x $5 = $1,547 per month, but treat that as a floor, not a quote.
- Pebl lists EOR at $399 per employee per month (3 x $399 = $1,197 for the EOR part of Example 1) and says to request a quote for your country. It does not publish contractor pricing.
- Rippling publishes only "plans start at $8 per employee per month, with a monthly base fee". EOR, global payroll and contractor pricing are custom quotes, so we can't price these examples for Rippling.

- Pricing page shows two different PEO figures and two different country counts, so confirm in your quote
Who it's for. Companies hiring in several countries that want to consolidate global HR, IT and immigration with one vendor, and companies that need countries Remote doesn't cover.
Remote review
What it is. Remote (remote.com) is a global employment platform for EOR, contractor management, global payroll and US PEO, built around entities Remote says it owns in every EOR country.
Key features.
- EOR in 90+ countries through "100% owned entities, no third parties"
- Three contractor tiers: Contractor Management, Contractor Management Plus (with $100,000 indemnity) and Contractor of Record
- Global payroll for your own entities with self-serve or managed options
- Remote Equity for handling equity taxation for EOR employees
- API, MCP server and CLI for developers
Pricing (per person per month, from Remote's pricing page, October 2026).
- EOR: starting at $599 per employee
- Contractor Management: starting at $29 per contractor (only for contractors you actively work with that month)
- Contractor Management Plus: starting at $99 per contractor
- Contractor of Record: starting at $325 per contractor
- Global Payroll: starting at $29 per employee
- US PEO: starting at $99 per employee (billed in USD, requires a US bank account)
- Remote Equity: $39 per EOR employee receiving equity
- Remote for Startups: 15% off EOR and Contractor Management for the first 12 months for pre-seed, seed and Series A companies
- No setup fees and no platform base fee; a refundable reserve may be required in some cases
Pros.
- Lowest published contractor price of the two ($29)
- Owned-entity EOR model with no third-party partners, per Remote
- A published $99 tier that adds misclassification indemnity without jumping to Contractor of Record
- Clear policies on deposits, FX and fees, all stated on the pricing page
Cons.
- Smaller stated EOR footprint (90+ countries) than Deel
- Device management and immigration support are not priced publicly
- No HRIS plan on the current pricing page
Who it's for. Startups and mid-size companies with a mix of a few EOR employees and many contractors, especially those that qualify for the startup discount and hire inside Remote's EOR country list.
Deel vs Remote: Who Should Pick Which
Use these rules to decide.
- Check countries first. List every country you will hire in over the next 12 to 18 months. If one is only covered by Deel's EOR, choose Deel or plan a second vendor.
- Count contractors. If contractors outnumber EOR employees, Remote's $29 plan saves $240 per contractor per year over Deel's $49. At 20 contractors, that is $4,800 a year.
- Decide who carries contractor risk. If you want insurance-style protection without paying $325 per contractor, Remote's $99 Plus tier is the only published option of the two.
- Count the add-ons you'd otherwise buy elsewhere. If you would otherwise pay for a separate HRIS, device management and an immigration firm, Deel's published add-ons may make one-vendor consolidation cheaper overall.
- Startups should price Remote's discount. A seed-stage company with three EOR employees and ten contractors saves about $313 per month in year one with Remote's 15% startup discount.
- Need equity for EOR staff? Remote publishes a clear $39 per employee equity product. Ask Deel how it handles equity taxation for EOR employees.
- Need 24/7 support? Deel advertises it; confirm Remote's support hours for your time zones.
Oyster review
What it is. Oyster is an EOR and contractor platform and a certified B Corporation.
Key features. EOR with "compliant employment in 120+ countries" and payroll in 120+ currencies; contractor contracts in 180+ countries; identity verification and a misclassification analyzer; People Partner Services for HR advice; integrations including Slack, Xero, HiBob, Personio, Ashby, BambooHR, Greenhouse and QuickBooks.
Pricing. EOR $699 per employee per month, with annual seat-based billing at a reduced fee. Global Contractors free for 30 days, then $29 per contractor per month. People Partner Services $300 per hour. Oyster says it charges no setup fees, requires a refundable deposit for EOR, and offers startup savings of up to $1,200 on EOR fees plus discounts for nonprofits and B Corps through Oyster for Impact. An Oyster Shell add-on offers aggregate misclassification protection up to $500,000.
Pros. Published prices with no setup fee; free 30-day contractor trial; contractor price matches Remote's $29; annual seat option lowers EOR cost.
Cons. Highest list EOR price in this group; smaller stated EOR coverage than Deel; refundable deposit required.
Who it's for. Small companies that want predictable published pricing and contractor-first hiring, with a few EOR employees.
Rippling review
What it is. Rippling is an HR, IT and finance platform. Its global products cover contractor payments, EOR (employees on Rippling's entities) and global payroll on your own entities, all on the same employee record as its US HR, payroll and device management.
Key features. Contractor onboarding in 185+ countries with payments in 50+ local currencies and automatic KYC collection; EOR with localized employment agreements, work authorization, benefits enrollment and software provisioning; in-house EOR payroll Rippling says lets you "pay in days, not weeks"; support Rippling says answers "in less than 30 seconds"; global payroll on your own entities.
Pricing. Rippling's pricing page says "Rippling plans start at $8 per employee per month, with a monthly base fee" and that total cost depends on the products you choose. Payroll, EOR, global payroll and contractor pricing are custom quotes. Rippling also runs a startup program giving eligible US VC-backed startups free access for 6 months. Rippling's EOR product page does not state a country count.
Pros. One system for domestic and international employees and contractors; native device and app provisioning; fast support claims; strong if you already use Rippling for US payroll.
Cons. No published EOR, global payroll or contractor prices; no stated EOR country count on the product page; a monthly base fee on top of per-employee pricing.
Who it's for. US companies already on Rippling, or planning to be, that want international hires in the same HR and IT system.
Papaya Global review
What it is. Papaya Global is a workforce payments and payroll platform aimed at larger companies, with EOR, Contractor of Record and contractor management alongside multi-country payroll.
Key features. EOR and global payroll across 180+ countries; Contractor of Record in 160+ countries; immigration services included with EOR and Contractor of Record; worker wallets and payments infrastructure; 24/7 support listed on each plan.
Pricing. Every plan says "Get a Quote", with these starting prices on the pricing page: EOR from $499 per employee per month; Contractor of Record from $199 per contractor per month; Contractor solution from $5 per contractor per month; Payroll Plus from $29 per employee per month; Workforce OS by quote; OnePay with $0 platform fees (payments only).
Pros. Wide stated coverage; low starting prices for contractor payments and Contractor of Record; strong payroll and payments focus for multi-entity companies.
Cons. All plans require a quote despite starting prices; positioned for enterprise, so small teams may find it heavy; fewer HR extras than Deel.
Who it's for. Mid-size and enterprise companies that run payroll on their own entities in many countries and want EOR and contractors in the same payroll layer.
Pebl (formerly Velocity Global) review
What it is. Velocity Global has rebranded as Pebl. Its site says it is the same team, now with an AI-powered platform, and that existing customer contracts and pricing are unaffected. It focuses on EOR, with global payroll, benefits, international pensions, equity, immigration and talent sourcing around it.
Key features. EOR in 185+ countries (per its homepage); compliance guidance vetted by Baker McKenzie; Alfie, an AI assistant; integrations and API access included; global immigration and benefits services.
Pricing. The EOR pricing page shows $399 per employee per month and asks you to request a quote for the country where you want to hire. Contractor and global payroll pricing are not published.
Pros. Lowest published EOR price in this comparison; wide stated country coverage; long EOR track record under the Velocity Global name.
Cons. Country-specific pricing means the $399 figure may not apply everywhere; no published contractor product price; fewer adjacent tools (HRIS, IT) than Deel or Rippling.
Who it's for. Companies that need EOR only, in many countries, and want to start negotiations from a lower list price.
Common Mistakes and Hidden Costs
- Comparing EOR fees and forgetting employment costs. Employer social contributions in some countries add a large percentage on top of salary. Use each vendor's cost calculator for the exact country before signing.
- Ignoring deposits and reserves. Oyster requires a refundable EOR deposit; Remote may ask for a refundable reserve in some cases. Ask every vendor whether a deposit applies in your countries.
- FX margins. Remote locks its FX rate per billing cycle; Deel says it offers "competitive exchange rates". If you pay large amounts in non-USD currencies, ask each vendor for the exact FX margin.
- Termination and severance. Neither vendor's fee covers notice pay or severance under local law. Deel's FAQ notes that local labor laws apply when ending EOR employment, and Remote says it leads terminations but severance is paid through payroll.
- Contractor misclassification. The cheapest contractor plans leave classification risk with you. If a contractor works full time, exclusively, under your direction, price Contractor of Record or EOR instead.
- Add-on creep. Equity, IT, immigration and benefits administration are often separate line items. Build the full list before comparing totals.
Final Recommendation
For most small international teams, the decision between Deel and Remote comes down to two numbers: how many contractors you have and which countries you need. EOR pricing is identical at $599. Remote is cheaper for contractors ($29 vs $49), offers a published middle tier with indemnity, and states that it uses only its own entities. Deel covers more countries by its own count and sells more of the surrounding stack (HRIS, IT, immigration) at published prices, with 24/7 support.
Choose Deel if you want one vendor for global HR operations or need countries outside Remote's list. Choose Remote if you are contractor-heavy, cost-sensitive or eligible for its startup discount. Before signing either, get written quotes for your exact countries, ask about deposits and FX margins, and have counsel read the IP clause in the template agreements.
