Why Printful vs Printify Matters in 2026
Printful and Printify are the two names most Shopify and Etsy sellers shortlist for print on demand. They look alike from the outside: both are free to start, both connect to the same stores, and both print your design only after a customer pays. Underneath, they are different businesses, and that difference drives price, quality and how much work you do.
Printful is a manufacturer. It prints, packs and ships from facilities it runs itself in the US, Mexico, Canada, the UK, Spain and Latvia, with partner facilities in Japan, Brazil and Australia.
Printify is a marketplace. It connects you to independent print providers (140+ facilities in total). You choose the provider for each product, or let Printify Choice route the order for you. Printful is even one of the providers listed on Printify.
This guide compares them on the points that decide profit and customer experience: plan fees, the cost of the same shirt, production and shipping times, branding, integrations, mockup tools, quality control, reprint rules and where orders are made. All figures were checked on Printful's and Printify's own sites, catalogs and Shopify App Store listings on October 16, 2026, in US dollars. At the end we cover four alternatives, Gelato, Gooten, Spreadconnect (formerly SPOD) and Teelaunch, for cases where neither fits.

Pricing and Fees
Both services make money mainly on the products you sell, not on plans. Neither charges listing or per-order fees on top of product and shipping cost. The plans exist to lower product prices.
Printful plans. The Free plan has no monthly fee and includes unlimited stores, 10 Quick Stores (simple hosted shops), the Design Maker, the Mockup Generator, and 20% off one sample order a month (up to 3 items). Growth costs $24.99/month with a 14-day trial; Printful's Shopify App Store listing advertises a 90-day trial for Shopify installs. Growth gives up to 33% off product prices, 9% off product branding, 25% off samples, a large front print on selected products and free embroidery digitization for samples. It becomes free once you reach $12K in yearly sales. Enterprise is custom priced.
Printful paid features. These apply on any plan:
- Printed inside label: $0.99 per item
- Printed outside label: $2.49 per item
- Premium Images: $1 per image, placement and item sold
- Embroidery digitization: $2.95 to $6.50 one time per design
- Extra embroidery placement: $2.95
Printify plans. Free covers 5 stores, unlimited designs, the Product Creator, manual orders and 24/7 merchant support. Premium costs $39/month or $299/year (shown as $24.99/month, a 36% saving). It adds 10 stores, up to 20% off all products and up to 33% off new products, up to 33% off custom branding, AI Mockups, Printify Connect for order issues such as reprint requests, and Sellers Club PRO mentoring. The monthly price went from $29 to $39 on February 17, 2026; the annual price stayed the same. Premium is non-refundable, so cancel before the renewal date. Enterprise adds a custom API integration, a dedicated account manager and branded customer support at custom pricing.
The same shirt on both. Both public catalogs list the Bella+Canvas 3001 unisex tee, so it makes a fair test:
| Bella+Canvas 3001, one front print | Price |
|---|---|
| Printful, S to XL | $11.92 |
| Printful, 2XL | $13.92 |
| Printful, extra back print | +$5.95 |
| Printify, cheapest provider (Printify Choice) | $11.29 |
| Printify, Printify Choice with Premium | $9.04 |
| Printify, cheapest provider with Premium (Stakes Manufacturing) | $8.95 |
| Printify, most expensive of 19 providers | $18.58 |
| Printful as a provider on Printify | $14.54 |
On the free plans, the gap on this shirt is 63 cents. With Premium, Printify Choice is $2.88 cheaper per shirt than Printful. Premium's $39 monthly fee covers itself at about 17 shirts a month at that saving (about 11 on yearly billing). Printful's Growth discount was not shown per product on its public pages, so we could not price the 3001 on Growth.
Note the last line. Printful's own shirt costs more when ordered through Printify ($14.54) than directly from Printful ($11.92). If you want Printful quality, buy direct.
Real Cost per Month: Three Scenarios
Plan prices only make sense next to volume. The table below prices one Bella+Canvas 3001 tee with a front print, shipped alone by US standard shipping, using October 2026 prices. Printify figures use Printify Choice. Premium yearly is the $299 annual fee spread over 12 months ($24.92).
| Tees per month | Printful Free | Printify Free | Printify Premium (monthly) | Printify Premium (yearly) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | $168.70 | $162.40 | $178.90 | $164.82 |
| 50 | $843.50 | $812.00 | $738.50 | $724.42 |
| 200 | $3,374.00 | $3,248.00 | $2,837.00 | $2,822.92 |
What this shows:
- At 10 shirts a month, Printify's free plan is cheapest, and Premium on monthly billing costs more than staying free. Printful is $6.30 more than Printify Free for the month.
- At 50 shirts, Printify Premium saves about $105 a month against Printful and $73 against Printify Free.
- At 200 shirts, the gap with Printful grows to about $537 a month. This is where Printful's Growth plan matters: it is $24.99/month (free above $12K yearly sales) with up to 33% off products, but Printful does not publish the Growth price of each product, so check it in your dashboard before deciding.
Two things the table leaves out. First, add-ons: a Printful inside label adds $0.99 per shirt, and branding on Printify varies by provider. Second, multi-item orders: extra items ship for $2.20 at Printful and $2.40 at Printify Choice, so bundles narrow Printful's gap slightly.
Product Catalog
Printify's catalog is far larger: more than 2,000 products against Printful's 584. On Printify, popular blanks are offered by many providers at once, which is where the price spread comes from. The 3001 tee alone has 19 providers in the US, UK, France, Germany, Czechia, Canada and Australia.
Printful's smaller range is curated for its own machines. Core apparel supports several decoration methods: the 3001 can be printed with DTG or DTF, or embroidered, with left chest, center chest and sleeve embroidery at $2.95 each. On Printify, the decoration methods depend on the provider; Printify Choice offers the 3001 with DTG on front, back and sleeves, plus a DTF inner neck label.
If you want unusual items, Printify's breadth helps. If you want a small, reliable range with embroidery and labels, Printful's is enough for most apparel brands.
Print Quality and Fulfillment
Printful prints in its own facilities: Charlotte and the Dallas area in the US, Tijuana in Mexico (orders are carried across the border and shipped domestically in the US), Mississauga in Canada, Wolverhampton in the UK (UK orders only), the Barcelona area in Spain and Riga in Latvia. Partner facilities in Japan, Brazil and Australia make selected products locally. Printful routes orders automatically and you cannot choose a facility. Its shipping page says it takes 2 to 5 business days to make a product and fulfill an order. Printful states it has delivered 146.9 million items since 2013.
Printify passes your order to the provider attached to that product. Each provider shows an average production time and scores for quality, production speed, samples and shipping, and courtesy. For the 3001 tee, average production ranged from 0.7 business days (Monster Digital) to 2.6 (Fulfill Engine). Printify Choice averaged 1.4 days and, for selected popular blanks including the 3001, can fulfill locally in the US, Canada, the UK, the EU and Australia. Printify cites 140+ facilities and 209 countries and territories.
Quality control. The trade-off is simple. With Printful, one company sets the standard for blanks, machines and checks, so results are consistent across its sites. With Printify, quality is as good as the provider you choose. The scores help, but you should order samples from each provider you use and re-sample if you switch. Printify's provider choice is also a safety net: if one provider slips, you can move products to another.
Sampling costs. Budget for samples either way. Printful's free plan takes 20% off one sample order a month (up to 3 items), and Growth takes 25% off samples. On Printify you may want samples from two or three providers of the same blank, so the first month of testing costs more, but it also tells you which provider to trust.
Shipping
For a single tee shipped within the US, both charge $4.95 standard. Extra items cost $2.20 each at Printful and $2.40 at Printify Choice. Printify Choice quotes 2 to 5 business days for standard US delivery, offers economy at $3.99 (4 to 8 business days) and express from $7.99. Other Printify providers set their own rates, from $4.95 to $5.39 for US standard on the 3001, and UK or EU providers charge far more to ship to the US.
International shipping depends on where the item is made. Printful's Spain and Latvia sites serve Europe, Mississauga serves Canada, and Wolverhampton serves the UK. On Printify, pick providers in your buyers' region or use Printify Choice routing. Shipping the 3001 from Printify Choice's US network to the rest of the world starts at $10.39, which shows why local production matters.
Integrations
Both connect to the channels most sellers use:
| Channel | Printful | Printify |
|---|---|---|
| Shopify | Yes | Yes |
| Etsy | Yes | Yes |
| Amazon | Yes | Yes |
| eBay | Yes | Yes |
| TikTok Shop | Yes | Yes (US only) |
| WooCommerce | Yes | Yes |
| Squarespace | Yes | Yes |
| Wix | Yes | Yes |
| BigCommerce | Yes | Yes |
| Big Cartel | Not listed | Yes |
| PrestaShop | Not listed | Yes |
Printful also offers its own Quick Stores. Printify also has a public API for custom stores, and Enterprise adds a custom API integration. Both Shopify apps are free to install: Printful's shows 4.8 from 3,948 reviews and Printify's 4.7 from 4,352 reviews on the Shopify App Store (October 2026).
Store limits differ. Printful's free plan has no store cap. Printify allows 5 stores on Free and 10 on Premium. If you run many niche shops, that cap matters.
Branding
Branding is Printful's clearest advantage. You can add a printed inside label ($0.99) or outside label ($2.49) to DTG, embroidery, all-over print and DTF apparel, and orders ship in white-label packaging, so your customer sees your brand, not Printful's. Printful's pricing page also names custom labels and branded packaging, priced in the dashboard. Growth takes 9% off branding.
On Printify, branding depends on the provider. For the 3001, 15 of the 19 providers offer custom printed neck labels and 16 offer 6 by 4 inch insert cards or gift messages. Three offer no branding features. Premium cuts branding costs by up to 33%. If branding is central to your business, filter providers by the branding features you need before you design products.
Mockups and Design Tools
Printful gives every account a free Design Maker and Mockup Generator. Premium Images cost $1 per image, per placement, per item sold.
Printify has a free Product Creator for placing designs and generating product images. AI Mockups are part of Premium, along with a Shutterstock integration for stock images.
For most sellers both are enough. Printful's mockups are free on every plan; on Printify, the better mockups sit behind Premium.
Returns and Reprints
The rules are nearly identical. Both offer a free reprint or refund when an item arrives damaged, defective or misprinted, if you report it within 30 days of delivery with clear photos. Neither needs the item back. Both reject claims for wrong size, wrong color chosen by the customer, or change of mind. At Printful, an order sent to a wrong address the customer entered can be reshipped at your cost.
Printify adds two details: DTG placement within a 0.5 inch tolerance is not treated as a defect, and for multiple items with the same design you need one photo or video showing all of them. Printful asks for the same group photo. On Printify Premium, the Printify Connect tool handles reprint requests.
Support
Both offer 24/7 support. Printify Premium adds 1:1 mentoring through Sellers Club PRO, and Enterprise adds a dedicated account manager and branded customer support. With Printful, the company you contact also made the item. With Printify, support sits between you and a separate print provider, which is worth knowing when a problem needs fast action.
When to Pick Printful
- You want one company accountable. When a print fails, the company you contact is the one that made it. There is no provider in the middle and no need to re-test quality when you add products.
- Branding is part of the product. Printed inside and outside labels at listed prices and white-label packaging make Printful the easier route to a branded unboxing.
- You need embroidery and DTF on core apparel. The 3001 alone supports DTG, DTF and embroidery, with embroidery placements at $2.95 each.
- You run several stores. The free plan has no store cap, while Printify's free plan stops at 5.
- Your buyers are in the US, Canada, the UK or Europe. Printful's own sites cover these markets, with partners in Japan, Brazil and Australia.
- You sell under about 15 to 20 items a month. At that volume the price gap with Printify's free plan is a few dollars a month, and Premium does not yet pay for itself.
When to Pick Printify
- Margin decides your business. On the 3001 tee, Premium cuts the base price to $9.04 through Printify Choice, $2.88 below Printful. At 50 shirts a month that is about $105 saved after the Premium fee.
- You want range. More than 2,000 products means you can test new product types without changing supplier.
- You will sample and compare. Provider scores, production times and branding features are visible before you list, but samples are still the real test.
- You want a backup. If a provider has delays in peak season, you can move products to another provider of the same blank.
- You sell on Big Cartel or PrestaShop. Printify lists both; Printful does not.
- You want someone to coach you. Premium includes Sellers Club PRO mentoring, which suits sellers still learning the business.
Alternatives Worth Considering
Printful and Printify cover most sellers, but four other services solve specific problems better. All four are in our comparison table and have full tool profiles.
Gelato: for buyers in many countries. Gelato routes each order to one of more than 140 production hubs in 32 countries, including the US, Brazil, most of Western Europe, India, Japan, Singapore and Australia. That shortens shipping for international buyers, where Printful's six in-house countries and Printify Choice's five local regions run out. Gelato is also strong in wall art, posters and cards. The free plan allows 2 stores and 2 users. Gelato+ costs $29.99/month or $239.88/year ($19.99/month), with a 14-day trial, up to 33% off products in listed markets, premium mockups, 250 premium fonts and 10 stores. It integrates directly with Shopify, Etsy, WooCommerce, Wix, Squarespace and BigCommerce. Damaged or defective items are replaced at Gelato's cost if reported within 30 days, and refunds go to your Gelato Wallet.
Gooten: for home goods and API-driven businesses. Gooten runs a managed network of vetted manufacturers with 500+ product lines and 70+ routing locations, with many home and lifestyle items such as blankets, candles and pet products. It charges no subscription and states 1.8 average production days and 3.8 average shipping days. It integrates with Shopify, Etsy, TikTok Shop, WooCommerce, BigCommerce and Order Desk, and offers an API. Its fulfillment network now runs inside OrderMesh, a new order-management platform. Reprints must be requested within about 4 weeks. Recent Shopify App Store reviews are mixed: 3.3 from 147 reviews in October 2026.
Spreadconnect (formerly SPOD): for fast, free apparel. Spreadconnect is Spreadshirt's fulfillment service and, like Printful, prints in its own factories: Leipzig, Krupka and Legnica in Europe, and Las Vegas in the US. It produces and ships 95% of orders within 48 hours and charges nothing beyond product and shipping cost. The catch is regional: you pick the US or EU when you register and cannot change it, so selling from both needs two accounts. It integrates with Shopify, TikTok Shop, WooCommerce, Squarespace, Magento, Shopware and Order Desk, but not Etsy.
Teelaunch: for niche gifts. Teelaunch is free, with unlimited stores, a mockup generator and products the big catalogs lack: cutting boards, sport balls, yard signs, jigsaw puzzles and headphones. Partner facilities sit in Phoenix, Louisville and Beltsville in the US, plus the UK, Czechia and Australia. Its Launchpad dashboard lets you update artwork, swap variants and hold pending orders. Production is slower: 4 to 7 business days for apparel. It integrates with Shopify, Etsy, WooCommerce, TikTok Shop and Order Desk.
The Verdict
Printful is the better choice for most store owners. It owns production, publishes its extra costs, covers every major sales channel, allows unlimited stores for free, and leads clearly on branding. On the most common blank tee, it costs only 63 cents more than the cheapest Printify route on free plans.
Printify wins on price and range. With Premium, the same tee is $2.88 cheaper, and the catalog is more than three times larger. That makes it the better pick for high-volume sellers who will sample providers and manage them.
A sensible path: start on Printful if brand and consistency matter, or on Printify's free plan with Printify Choice if price matters. Once you sell around 20 items a month, price your bestsellers on both, including shipping and labels, and let the numbers decide. Many sellers end up using both in one Shopify store, Printful for branded core apparel and Printify for wider product ranges.
Before you commit, run this short check:
- Price your three bestsellers on both, with every print placement and label you plan to use.
- Add shipping to your main market, including extra-item rates for bundles.
- Order samples, wash them, and compare print and fabric side by side.
- Confirm the integration for every sales channel you use, especially TikTok Shop outside the US.
- Decide whether a subscription pays off at your real monthly volume, not your hoped-for volume.
