Starting prices are the lowest paid plan, checked on each vendor's pricing page in October 2026. G2 ratings are shown only when we confirmed them.

This page compares the seven product analytics tools most often shortlisted by B2B SaaS and consumer app teams in 2026: PostHog, Mixpanel, Amplitude, Heap, Pendo, Userpilot and Statsig. We read each vendor's pricing page, plan comparison table and billing docs in October 2026 and compared what you get on each plan, what it costs at two realistic volumes, and which plan you need for SSO, experiments, replay and warehouse access.

One tool from the usual shortlist is missing. June, the simple analytics product for B2B SaaS, shut down its standalone product on August 8, 2025, and its founding team joined Amplitude. June customers were offered a migration path to Amplitude. We replaced it with Statsig, which is now also owned by Amplitude (since May 2026) but is still sold separately with its own plans and prices.

The things that matter most when you pick a product analytics tool are:

  • How data gets in. Event tracking (you define and send named events from your code) gives clean, reliable data but needs engineering time. Autocapture records clicks and pageviews automatically so you can define events later. Most tools now offer both; Heap was built around autocapture.
  • The core reports. Funnels, retention, cohorts and paths are table stakes. The differences are in speed, how cohorts can be saved and reused, and account-level (B2B) reporting.
  • What sits next to analytics. Session replay, feature flags, experiments, surveys and in-app guides. Buying these from one vendor saves integration work, but bundled tools are not always as deep as specialists.
  • The pricing unit. Events, monthly tracked users (MTU), monthly active users (MAU) and sessions behave very differently as you grow. A consumer app with many light users pays very differently on MAU pricing than on event pricing.
  • Plan gates. SSO, experiment results, data retention and warehouse sync are often on a higher plan than the price you see first.

PostHog

PostHog started as open-source product analytics and has grown into a platform with session replay, feature flags, experiments, surveys, error tracking and a data warehouse. For a product team this means one SDK, one user identity and one place to go from a funnel drop-off to the replays of the users who dropped off, then to a flag or experiment that tests a fix.

What it does well for product teams

The core analytics covers trends, funnels, retention, paths and stickiness, with SQL access for anything the visual reports cannot do. Autocapture is available, and you can add custom events from code. Session replay works on web and mobile and links each recording to the events in it. Feature flags and experiments are billed together, so running A/B tests does not need a separate contract. Surveys cover in-app NPS and feedback questions.

PostHog's pricing is the most transparent here. Every product has a free monthly allowance and published per-unit rates that drop with volume. You can set a billing limit on each product, and PostHog's pricing page says usage above that limit is dropped rather than charged. There is no annual commitment, though annual plans and volume discounts are available through sales.

Pricing

The free tier resets every month: 1M analytics events, 5K web recordings (2,500 mobile), 1M flag requests, 1,500 survey responses and 100K exceptions, with unlimited team members, 1 project and 1-year event retention. Usage stops at the free limits, so you cannot be charged without adding a card.

Pay-as-you-go keeps the same free tier. Analytics events then cost $0.00005 each from 1M to 2M, $0.0000343 from 2M to 15M and $0.0000295 from 15M to 50M if they are anonymous. Identified events (events that create or update a person profile, which you need for user-level cohorts and for tracking logged-in users across devices) cost more. PostHog's published billing rates add an identified-event charge of $0.000198 per event after the first 1M on top of the base event price (so $0.000248 per identified event from 1M to 2M), with the add-on falling to $0.0000697 from 2M to 15M. The cost examples below use these combined rates. Pay-as-you-go also raises limits to 6 projects, 7-year event retention and 90-day recording retention.

Platform packages add admin features: Boost at $250/month (SSO enforcement, unlimited projects, HIPAA BAA, white labeling) and Scale at $750/month (adds SAML and priority support). Enterprise is custom.

Pros

  • A free monthly allowance on every product (analytics, replay, flags, surveys, error tracking)
  • Every price is published, with a billing limit per product
  • Unlimited team members on every plan
  • One data set for analytics, replay, flags, experiments and surveys

Cons

  • Identified events cost several times more than anonymous ones, which hits B2B apps where every user logs in
  • SAML SSO needs the $750/month Scale package
  • No in-app guide or product tour builder on its pricing page (product tours are a private alpha in its docs)
  • Many meters (events, recordings, flag requests, survey responses) make forecasting harder
  • The interface and docs assume some technical comfort

Who should use it, and who should skip it

Choose PostHog if your product and engineering teams work closely, you want replay, flags and experiments without buying three tools, and you want to start free and pay monthly. Skip it if your analytics users are mostly non-technical marketers or customer success staff, if you need in-app onboarding guides, or if you need SAML SSO on a small budget. The self-hosted open-source version exists, but PostHog says it is unsupported and limited to free-plan features, so do not plan around it for production.

Mixpanel

Mixpanel is the tool many teams think of first for event-based product analytics. Its strength is ease of use: product managers can build a funnel, retention chart or cohort without help from a data team.

What it does well for product teams

Insights, funnels, retention and flows reports are on every plan, including Free. Autocapture is available on all plans, and you can send custom events from code. Session replay with heatmaps is included, experiments use CUPED and sequential testing, and feature flags support cohort targeting. Every plan offers US or EU data residency and unlimited seats.

For B2B SaaS teams, the key point is that SAML SSO and SCIM are included on the self-serve Growth plan. Amplitude, Statsig and Userpilot put SSO behind a custom-priced plan. Account-level reporting (Group Analytics) is a paid add-on, so budget for it if you sell to companies and want to analyze by account.

Pricing

Free covers up to 1M events a month, 10K session replays, experiments for up to 1K monthly experiment users and up to 10 active flags. Saved cohorts, warehouse connectors and SSO are not included. When you reach 1M events on Free, Mixpanel blocks report access until you upgrade or the next month starts; it does not charge overage.

Growth includes the first 1M events free and is priced by volume up to 20M events a month. Billed annually, 1.5M events cost $100/month, 5M cost $438/month and 20M cost $1,635/month. Billed monthly, the same volumes cost $140, $613 and $2,289 per month. Mixpanel's docs say annual Growth plans need a larger pre-committed volume than 1M events. Growth adds unlimited saved reports and cohorts, alerts, data warehouse connectors, SAML SSO and SCIM, 5K monthly experiment users and up to 50 flags. The plan table lists 20K monthly replay sessions on Growth.

Above 20M events you need Enterprise, which is custom. Mixpanel's docs say its MTU-based Enterprise plan starts at $20,000 per year. The docs also say you cannot set a billing limit, so watch for event spikes.

Pros

  • Fast, approachable funnels, retention and cohorts
  • SAML SSO and SCIM on the published Growth plan
  • Published monthly and annual prices
  • Experiments and flags on every plan, including Free

Cons

  • Growth stops at 20M events a month
  • No billing limit, per Mixpanel's docs
  • Group Analytics and Data Pipelines are add-ons
  • No in-app guides or surveys

Who should use it, and who should skip it

Choose Mixpanel if analytics is the main job, your PMs want to answer their own questions, and you need SSO without a sales cycle. Skip it if you want guides and surveys from the same vendor, or if you expect to pass 20M events a month soon and want published prices at that scale.

Amplitude

Amplitude is the largest vendor here by G2 review count and now bundles session replay, experiments, guides and surveys into every plan. It also owns Statsig (since May 2026) and took in June's founding team in 2025.

What it does well for product teams

The analytics is deep: funnels, retention, journeys, behavioral cohorts and formulas, with autocapture on all plans. Session replay is included on every plan (10,000 monthly replays on Free and Plus), and heatmaps come with Plus. Feature flags are unlimited on every plan. Guides and surveys let you ship in-app messages without a separate onboarding tool. Every plan has unlimited seats and an EU data center option.

Pricing

Free gives you 2M events a month with no card and no time limit, double the free event allowance of Mixpanel and PostHog. It includes 10,000 monthly replays, unlimited flags, 1 active feature experiment, 1 web experiment, and 1 guide or survey. It does not include behavioral cohorts or heatmaps, limits you to 10 saved charts, keeps 1 year of data and has community support only.

Plus "starts at $0" with the first 2M events free, then follows an event calculator on the pricing page. Billed monthly, 3M events cost $94/month, 5M cost $281/month and 10M cost $720/month. Billed annually, 5M events cost $2,700/year and 10M cost $6,912/year. Plus scales to 70M events and adds heatmaps, 20 behavioral cohorts, alerts, unlimited saved charts and 2-year data retention.

Growth and Enterprise are custom-priced. You need Growth for SSO, experiment results and A/B/n feature testing, and unlimited data access. Add-ons on Growth and Enterprise are priced as a percentage of your platform plan. Amplitude does not offer a trial, but its Startup Scholarship gives one free year of Growth to companies with under $10M in funding and fewer than 20 employees.

Pros

  • Most generous free event allowance here
  • Plus at 5M events ($2,700/year billed annually) costs less than Mixpanel Growth or fully identified PostHog
  • Guides, surveys, replay and flags on every plan
  • Unlimited seats everywhere

Cons

  • SSO and experiment results need custom-priced Growth
  • Only 1 active experiment on Free and Plus
  • Replay is retained for 1 month unless you buy more
  • Total cost on Growth needs a quote because add-ons are a percentage of the plan

Who should use it, and who should skip it

Choose Amplitude if you want deep analytics, a large free tier and a low published price on Plus, and you are happy to talk to sales once you need SSO or serious experimentation. Skip it if you need SSO now on a published price (Mixpanel includes it), or if you want to run many experiments without a custom contract.

Heap

Heap, now part of the Contentsquare group, was built around autocapture. Install one snippet and Heap captures user interactions automatically, so you can define an event today and analyze it retroactively.

What it does well for product teams

Retroactive analysis is the main draw. If a PM asks how many users clicked a button last quarter, and nobody tracked it, Heap can still answer. Charts, funnels, journeys, retention and an engagement matrix cover the core reports. Sense, Heap's AI assistant, answers questions in plain language. Heap Connect syncs data to your warehouse (an add-on on Pro, included on Premier). Session replay, heatmaps and error analysis are available as add-ons.

Pricing

Heap prices by sessions. A web session ends after 30 minutes of inactivity, a mobile session after 5 minutes. Free covers up to 10k monthly sessions with core charts, SSO, 1 project and 6 months of data history. Growth, Pro and Premier have no published prices. For Growth, Heap says to install the free snippet to get an estimate; Pro and Premier use custom session pricing. Data history is 12 months on Growth and 1 year on Pro and Premier, with an add-on for up to 3 years. If you go over your limit, Heap keeps collecting data but you must upgrade to view it. A free trial is available without a credit card.

Pros

  • Autocapture and retroactive analysis with little engineering time
  • SSO included on the free plan
  • Data is not dropped when you exceed your session limit
  • Warehouse sync through Heap Connect

Cons

  • No published prices on any paid plan
  • Session replay costs extra
  • No feature flags or experiments
  • Short data history below Pro

Who should use it, and who should skip it

Choose Heap if your engineering team has little time for instrumentation and you want to answer questions about behavior nobody planned to track. Skip it if you want published prices, built-in experiments, or a single tool for replay and analytics without add-ons.

Pendo

Pendo combines product analytics with in-app guides, and it is aimed mostly at B2B SaaS. Product, customer success and onboarding teams can see where users get stuck and ship a guide to help them, in the same tool.

What it does well for product teams

Pendo's analytics are retroactive from the day you install the snippet. In-app guides are on every plan, including Free. Session replay comes with Core and Ultimate. NPS and surveys (Pendo calls this Sentiment) are included on Ultimate. Leo, Pendo's AI assistant, answers questions in natural language, and Data Sync sends data to your warehouse on Ultimate.

Pricing

Pendo prices by monthly active users: unique visitors active in the last 30 days. Free covers up to 500 MAU with analytics, guides and Pendo-branded NPS. Pendo Free is still listed on the pricing page, but Pendo now points new users to Novus, a separate AI-native product in free open beta, and says Pendo Free remains for current users. Base, Core and Ultimate are all by quote with custom MAU volume. Pendo offers a 30-day free trial of the full platform through sales.

Pros

  • Analytics and guides built as one product
  • Retroactive analytics from install
  • Replay, NPS and surveys in one place on higher plans
  • 30-day trial of the full platform

Cons

  • No published paid prices
  • Free plan is capped at 500 MAU and carries Pendo branding
  • Session replay is not on Base
  • MAU pricing gets costly for consumer apps with large audiences

Who should use it, and who should skip it

Choose Pendo if you run a B2B SaaS product with a few thousand to many thousands of users and want onboarding guides and adoption analytics in one tool. Skip it if you run a consumer app with a large, light-usage audience, if you need experiments or feature flags, or if you want to see prices before a sales call.

Userpilot

Userpilot is a product growth platform for SaaS: in-app flows, checklists, banners, surveys and a resource center, with product analytics added on the Growth plan.

What it does well for product teams

Userpilot is strongest when the question is "did our onboarding work?" You build flows without code, target them at segments and measure their effect. On Growth you get trends, funnels, retention and paths, event autocapture, 5k session replays a month and A/B testing for in-app content. Lia, Userpilot's AI agent, and an MCP server are on all plans.

Pricing

Userpilot prices by MAU. Its pricing page does not say whether prices are billed monthly or annually. Starter is $299/month for up to 2,000 MAU with 3 seats, 1-year retention, flows, checklists, up to 10 segments, usage trends and NPS. Starter does not include funnels, retention, paths, autocapture or replay. Growth starts at $849/month with 15 seats, 3-year retention, full analytics, autocapture, replay and optional EU hosting. Mobile engagement, CRM integrations and data warehouse sync are Growth add-ons. Enterprise is custom and adds SAML SSO, unlimited seats and warehouse sync. There is no free plan, but there is a 14-day free trial with no credit card.

Pros

  • Published starting prices
  • Onboarding, surveys and analytics in one product
  • Growth includes autocapture, replay and in-app A/B tests
  • 3-year data retention on Growth

Cons

  • No free plan
  • Starter lacks funnels, retention and paths, so analytics really starts at $849/month
  • Seat caps of 3 and 15 on Starter and Growth
  • SAML SSO only on Enterprise

Who should use it, and who should skip it

Choose Userpilot if you are a SaaS team whose main goal is activation and feature adoption, and you want to measure the flows you ship without adding a second analytics tool. Skip it if analytics is your main need (Mixpanel, Amplitude or PostHog go deeper for less), or if you run a consumer app with a large audience.

Statsig

Statsig started as an experimentation and feature flag platform and added product analytics and session replay. OpenAI acquired it in September 2025, and Amplitude acquired it on May 5, 2026. Statsig is still sold as its own product with its own pricing.

What it does well for product teams

Experimentation is the core: CUPED variance reduction, sequential testing, switchback and non-inferiority tests, with flags and dynamic configs that have unlimited checks on every plan. Product analytics covers funnels, retention, user journeys and dashboards. Session replay is generous: 50,000 replays a month free and 100,000 on Pro. On Enterprise, Statsig can run warehouse-native on Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery or Redshift, so analysis runs on data already in your warehouse.

Pricing

The Developer tier is free with 2M metered events a month, unlimited flag checks, 50,000 replays, 1-year analytics retention and unlimited seats. Above 2M events, metric lift computations stop but flags keep working. Pro is $150/month, charged at the start of each monthly billing period, and includes 5M metered events; each additional 1K events costs $0.05, billed the next period. Pro adds unlimited analytics retention and covers one project per subscription. Enterprise is custom and adds warehouse-native deployment, SSO, RBAC and HIPAA eligibility. Note that metered events include experiment exposures, not only the events you log.

Pros

  • Lowest published price at 5M events
  • Most free session replays of any tool here
  • Unlimited flag checks on every plan
  • Warehouse-native option on Enterprise

Cons

  • Now owned by Amplitude, so its roadmap is tied to a competitor's
  • Experiment exposures count against the same event meter
  • SSO only on Enterprise
  • No in-app guides or surveys

Who should use it, and who should skip it

Choose Statsig if your team ships behind flags and runs many experiments, or if your data team wants experiments and analysis inside your warehouse. Skip it if you want the deepest self-serve analytics for non-technical users, or if you prefer a vendor independent of Amplitude.

Pricing at Your Scale

List prices are hard to compare because the tools use different units. Below are two examples computed only from the prices each vendor publishes (USD, October 2026). They exclude taxes, add-ons and platform packages unless we say otherwise.

Example 1: a growing startup, 5M events and about 50,000 MTUs a month, 10 seats

ToolPlanMonthly costBasis
PostHogPay-as-you-go$152.90 (all anonymous) to $560.00 (all identified)First 1M free; 1M x $0.00005 = $50.00; 3M x $0.0000343 = $102.90. Identified add-on: 1M x $0.000198 = $198.00; 3M x $0.0000697 = $209.10
MixpanelGrowth$438 billed annually ($5,256/year) or $613 billed monthlyPublished 5M-event tier
AmplitudePlus$281 billed monthly, or $2,700/year billed annually ($225/month)Plus calculator, 5M events
StatsigPro$1505M metered events included; no overage at exactly 5M
HeapGrowth or ProBy quoteSession-based, not published
PendoBase or CoreBy quoteCustom MAU volume
UserpilotGrowthFrom $849; price at 50k MAU not publishedGrowth MAU range goes up to 100k

All of these include enough seats for 10 people: PostHog, Mixpanel, Amplitude and Statsig have unlimited seats, and Userpilot Growth includes 15.

Three things change the picture. First, PostHog's cost depends on how many events are identified. A B2B SaaS app where every user logs in will sit near the $560 end; a consumer app with lots of logged-out traffic will sit closer to $152.90. Second, SSO changes the ranking: it is included on Mixpanel Growth, but adds $750/month on PostHog (Scale package, for SAML) and needs custom-priced Growth on Amplitude or Enterprise on Statsig. Third, Statsig's meter counts experiment exposures, so a team running many experiments will use up 5M metered events faster than one that only logs product events.

Example 2: an early-stage SaaS app, 500,000 events and 2,000 MAU a month

ToolPlanMonthly costNotes
PostHogFree$0Under the 1M free events
MixpanelFree$0Under the 1M free events; saved cohorts and SSO need Growth
AmplitudeFree$0Under the 2M free events; no behavioral cohorts or heatmaps
StatsigDeveloper$0Under the 2M free metered events
HeapFree$0 if under 10k sessions2,000 users averaging more than 5 sessions a month would pass 10k
PendoBaseBy quote2,000 MAU is over the 500 MAU free limit
UserpilotStarter or Growth$299 (Starter) or from $849 (Growth)Starter covers up to 2,000 MAU but has no funnels or retention

At this size, four of the seven tools cost nothing, so choose on features and on what each will cost once you grow. Pendo and Userpilot cost money from day one at 2,000 MAU because they price by users, but they also include in-app guides that the free tools do not (Amplitude Free includes 1 guide or survey).

How to Choose

Start with your pricing unit

  • Events (PostHog, Mixpanel, Amplitude, Statsig) suit consumer apps with many light users, because you pay for what users do, not how many there are.
  • MAU (Pendo, Userpilot) suits B2B SaaS with fewer, heavier users, and gets expensive for consumer apps.
  • Sessions (Heap) sits in between, but apps with many short visits generate many sessions.

Decide between event tracking and autocapture

If you have engineers who will maintain a tracking plan, any of the event-based tools work well. If you do not, Heap's autocapture and retroactive analysis is the main reason to pick it. PostHog, Mixpanel, Amplitude and Userpilot (on Growth) also offer autocapture, so you can mix both approaches.

List the extras you need

  • Session replay: included on PostHog, Mixpanel, Amplitude, Statsig and Userpilot Growth; Core and Ultimate on Pendo; an add-on on Heap.
  • Experiments and flags: PostHog, Mixpanel, Amplitude and Statsig. Amplitude shows experiment results only from Growth. Userpilot tests in-app content, not product features.
  • In-app guides: Pendo, Userpilot and Amplitude.
  • Warehouse access: Statsig Enterprise runs warehouse-native; Heap Connect (Pro add-on, Premier), Pendo Data Sync (Ultimate), Userpilot warehouse sync (Growth add-on, Enterprise), Mixpanel warehouse connectors (Growth), PostHog data warehouse and batch exports, and Amplitude sources and destinations on all plans (scheduled syncs from Growth).

Check the plan gates before you compare prices

SSO is the most common surprise. It is on Mixpanel Growth and Heap Free; it costs extra on PostHog; and it needs a custom-priced or Enterprise plan on Amplitude, Statsig and Userpilot. Pendo's pricing page does not say which plan includes it, so ask. Data retention also varies: from 6 months on Heap Free to 7 years on PostHog pay-as-you-go.

Look at startup programs

Mixpanel offers a free first year to companies founded under 5 years ago with up to $8M in funding. Amplitude's Startup Scholarship gives a free year of Growth to companies with under $10M in funding and fewer than 20 employees. PostHog offers startup and non-profit discounts.

Final Recommendations

  • Best overall: PostHog. The broadest free tier, published prices for everything, billing limits and one data set for analytics, replay, flags, experiments and surveys. Budget for identified events if your users log in, and for the Scale package if you need SAML.
  • Best pure product analytics: Mixpanel. Fast funnels, retention and cohorts for non-analysts, with SSO on the published Growth plan.
  • Best value at mid volume: Amplitude. 2M free events and $281/month at 5M events billed monthly, with guides and surveys included. Plan for a sales call when you need SSO or experiment results.
  • Best for autocapture: Heap. Answer questions about behavior nobody tracked, at a quoted price.
  • Best for B2B SaaS with in-app guides: Pendo. Analytics and guides built together, priced by MAU on quote.
  • Best for SaaS onboarding on a published price: Userpilot. Flows and surveys from $299/month, with analytics from $849/month.
  • Best for experiment-first and warehouse-native teams: Statsig. $150/month for 5M events and 100,000 replays, now owned by Amplitude.

Whichever you shortlist, install two tools on the free tiers for a few weeks, check how many events and identified users you really generate, and price the plan that includes the gates you need (SSO, experiments, retention), not the starting plan.

Frequently asked questions

For most product teams, PostHog: it has a free tier of 1M events, 5K session recordings and 1M feature flag requests a month, published per-unit prices and billing limits, and puts analytics, replay, flags, experiments and surveys on one data set. Mixpanel is the best pure analytics tool for non-technical users, and Amplitude has the largest free event allowance (2M events a month).
