PostHog is the "everything in one box" option in product analytics. One SDK gives you product and web analytics, session replay, feature flags, experiments, surveys, error tracking, a data warehouse and more, each with its own free allowance every month. For many engineering-led teams that is exactly the appeal. For others, it is the reason they start looking around.
This page compares six PostHog alternatives: Mixpanel, Amplitude, Heap, Statsig, Plausible Analytics and Pendo. We checked every price, plan name and limit on the vendors' own pricing pages and docs in October 2026. We also worked out what a startup with 5M events and about 50k monthly tracked users would pay on each.
One tool you may see on older lists is missing here. June, the analytics tool built for B2B SaaS, shut down its standalone product on August 8, 2025, and its founding team joined Amplitude. It is no longer sold, so we replaced it with Statsig.
Before you compare, decide which parts of PostHog you actually use. Most of these alternatives replace one or two PostHog products, not all of them. If you use analytics, replay, flags and surveys today, replacing PostHog may take two or three tools.
Why Teams Look for PostHog Alternatives
PostHog is a strong product, and its free tier is large. But these are the reasons we see most often in buyer questions and in PostHog's own pricing docs.
Usage billing across many products
PostHog bills each product separately: events for analytics, recordings for replay, requests for flags and experiments, responses for surveys, rows for warehouse sources, exceptions for error tracking and GB for logs. Each has its own free tier and its own volume tiers. You can set a billing limit per product, which protects you from surprises, but forecasting the total takes work. PostHog's own FAQ suggests setting your billing limit to $0, installing it and checking the projection after a few days.
Identified vs anonymous events
This is the pricing detail that catches most teams. PostHog charges less for anonymous events (no person profile) than for identified events (events tied to a person profile, which you need for user-level analysis, cohorts by person properties and lifecycle charts).
After the first 1M free events each month, PostHog's published billing rates list:
- Anonymous events: $0.00005 per event (1M-2M), $0.0000343 (2M-15M), $0.0000295 (15M-50M)
- Identified events: the same base price plus a person-profiles charge of $0.000198 (1M-2M), $0.0000697 (2M-15M), $0.000036 (15M-50M)
So an identified event costs $0.000248 in the 1M-2M tier, about five times the anonymous price. PostHog's docs say anonymous events "can be up to 4x cheaper", and its 2024 pricing post described anonymous events as up to 80% cheaper; both point the same way. The free 1M events apply whether events are anonymous or identified. If your product has logged-in users, most of your events will be identified, and that is the price to plan around.
A UI built for engineers
PostHog is designed for product engineers. It has SQL, a data warehouse and many products in one navigation. Product managers and marketers who only want funnels, retention and dashboards sometimes prefer a tool with fewer moving parts.
Wanting only one piece
Some teams only need one thing PostHog does: cookieless website stats, a dedicated experimentation platform, or in-app onboarding guides (PostHog does not sell a guide builder; its docs describe product tours as a private alpha). A specialist tool can be simpler or better at that one job.
Which Alternative Replaces Which PostHog Product
| PostHog product | Alternatives on this page that cover it |
|---|---|
| Product analytics | Mixpanel, Amplitude, Heap, Statsig, Pendo |
| Web analytics | Plausible Analytics (cookieless), Statsig |
| Session replay | Mixpanel, Amplitude, Statsig, Pendo (Core and up), Heap (add-on) |
| Feature flags | Statsig, Amplitude, Mixpanel |
| Experiments | Statsig, Mixpanel, Amplitude (results on Growth) |
| Surveys | Amplitude (Guides and Surveys), Pendo (Sentiment on Ultimate) |
| In-app guides (not sold by PostHog) | Pendo, Amplitude |
| Data warehouse sync | Mixpanel (Growth), Amplitude, Heap (Heap Connect), Statsig (Enterprise), Pendo (Data Sync on Ultimate) |
| Self-hosting | Plausible (Community Edition); PostHog itself offers an unsupported open-source deploy |
A typical split: Mixpanel or Amplitude for analytics and replay, Statsig if you run many experiments, and Plausible for the marketing site. Amplitude covers the most PostHog products on its own.
Comparison Table
| Tool | Starting price | Free plan / trial | Pricing unit | Best for | Standout feature |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| PostHog | $0.00005/event after 1M free | Free tier on every product | Per product (events, recordings, requests, responses) | Engineers wanting one platform | Per-product billing limits |
| Mixpanel | Growth from $100/month billed annually (1.5M events) | Free, 1M events/month | Events | PMs wanting simpler analytics | SAML SSO on Growth |
| Amplitude | Plus starts at $0; $281/month at 5M events billed monthly | Free, 2M events/month | Events (or MTU on Plus) | Closest all-in-one swap | Guides and surveys plus flags |
| Heap | By quote | Free, 10k sessions/month; free trial | Sessions | Retroactive analytics | Autocapture with retroactive analysis |
| Statsig | Pro $150/month | Free, 2M metered events/month | Metered events | Flags and experiments | Unlimited flag checks |
| Plausible Analytics | $9/month billed monthly | 30-day trial | Pageviews plus custom events | Cookieless web analytics | No cookie banner needed |
| Pendo | By quote | Free, 500 MAU; 30-day trial | Monthly active users | In-app guides | In-app guides on every plan |
PostHog (the tool you are replacing)
PostHog is worth a fair look before you leave. The free tier renews every month and covers 1M analytics events, 5K web recordings, 1M flag requests, 1,500 survey responses and 100K exceptions. Team members are unlimited on every plan. There is no annual commitment.
Pricing
The free plan gives you 1 project and 1-year data retention, and usage stops at the limits. Pay-as-you-go keeps the same free allowance, then bills per unit: analytics events start at $0.00005 each after 1M (anonymous), session replay at $0.005 per web recording after 5K, feature flag requests at $0.0001 after 1M, and survey responses at $0.10 after 1,500. Prices fall with volume. Pay-as-you-go also raises you to 6 projects, 7-year data retention and 90-day recording retention.
Security and admin features come in platform packages: Boost at $250/month (SSO enforcement, white labeling, HIPAA BAA, unlimited projects), Scale at $750/month (adds SAML and priority support) and Enterprise at custom pricing (RBAC, dedicated support).
Where PostHog falls short
- If you need SAML SSO, the Scale package adds $750/month to your usage bill.
- Identified events cost about five times anonymous events in the 1M-2M tier.
- It does not sell in-app guides or onboarding flows; its docs describe product tours as a private alpha.
- Self-hosting exists (a free MIT-licensed Docker Compose deploy), but PostHog calls it officially unsupported and recommends PostHog Cloud for most users.
Stay with PostHog if you use three or more of its products, your team is technical, and you value published prices over a simpler bill.
Mixpanel
Mixpanel is the product analytics tool most PostHog users compare first. It focuses on analytics (insights, funnels, retention, flows) and adds session replay, experiments and feature flags. For product managers it is often the easier switch, because there is one usage meter and the reports are built around questions PMs ask.
What it does well for PostHog switchers
- One meter. Mixpanel bills on events across all projects. Session replay, experiments and flags are included up to plan limits rather than billed per unit.
- Experiments and flags on every plan. Free includes experiments up to 1K MEU (monthly experiment users) and up to 10 active flags. Growth raises that to 5K MEU and 50 flags. Mixpanel lists CUPED and sequential testing on all plans.
- SAML SSO and SCIM on Growth. At PostHog, SAML needs the $750/month Scale package. At Mixpanel it is part of the self-serve Growth plan.
- Unlimited seats and US or EU data residency on every plan.
Pricing
Free covers up to 1M events/month, 10K session replays, unlimited seats and 5 saved reports per seat. When you hit 1M events, report access is blocked until you upgrade or the month resets; Mixpanel does not charge overage on Free.
Growth includes the first 1M events free, then is priced by volume up to 20M events/month. Billed annually, 1.5M events cost $100/month, 5M cost $438/month ($5,256/year) and 10M cost $840/month. Billed monthly, the same tiers cost $140, $613 and $1,176. Growth adds unlimited saved reports and cohorts, data warehouse connectors, SAML SSO, alerts and session replay (the plan table lists 20K monthly sessions). Group Analytics and Data Pipelines are paid add-ons.
Enterprise is custom; Mixpanel's docs say the MTU-based Enterprise plan starts at $20,000 per year.
Pros
- Clear, analytics-first interface
- SAML SSO without an extra package
- Published monthly and annual prices
Cons
- At 5M anonymous events it costs more than PostHog
- No surveys or in-app guides
- Mixpanel's docs say you cannot set a billing limit
Choose Mixpanel if your PMs run most of the analysis and you want one predictable meter. Skip it if you rely on PostHog surveys, or you send mostly anonymous web traffic, where PostHog is cheaper.
Amplitude
Amplitude is the closest like-for-like replacement for PostHog's bundle. Its current plans include product analytics, session replay, feature flags, feature and web experiments, guides and surveys, and autocapture. Seats are unlimited on every plan.
What it does well for PostHog switchers
- Biggest free allowance. The Free plan includes 2M events/month, 10,000 session replays and unlimited feature flags, with no card and no time limit.
- Covers more PostHog products than any other tool here, and adds in-app guides, which PostHog does not sell.
- Lower price at 5M events. On Plus, 5M events cost $281/month billed monthly or $2,700/year billed annually. That is less than Mixpanel Growth at the same volume and less than PostHog if most of your events are identified.
Pricing
Free: 2M events/month, 10,000 replays/month, 1 active feature experiment and 1 web experiment, 1 guide or survey, 1-year data access, community support only.
Plus: starts at $0 (the first 2M events are free), then priced by event volume up to 70M events (or 700K MTU). The calculator shows 3M events at $94/month, 5M at $281/month and 10M at $720/month billed monthly; billed annually, 5M events cost $2,700/year. Plus adds heatmaps, 20 behavioral cohorts, alerts and 2-year retention. A credit card is required.
Growth and Enterprise: custom, event-based pricing. Growth unlocks SSO and project permissions, experiment results and A/B/n feature testing, 20,000 replays/month and unlimited data access. Several capabilities (more experiments, more replays, unlimited guides and surveys) are add-ons priced as a percentage of the platform plan.
Amplitude also runs a Startup Scholarship: one free year of Growth for companies with under $10M in funding and fewer than 20 employees.
Pros
- Widest product coverage of the alternatives
- 2M free events and unlimited flags
- Cheaper than Mixpanel Growth at 5M events
Cons
- Experiment results and SSO need Growth, which has no published price
- Free and Plus allow only 1 active experiment
- Session replays are kept 1 month unless you buy an add-on
Choose Amplitude if you want to replace most of PostHog with one vendor and your PMs prefer a less technical UI. Skip it if experimentation is central to your work and you do not want to negotiate a Growth contract.
Heap
Heap, now part of the Contentsquare group, is built around autocapture. It records interactions on your site or app automatically, so you can define events later and analyze them retroactively. For PostHog users who never kept up a tracking plan, that is the main draw.
What it does well for PostHog switchers
- Retroactive analysis. Define an event today and see its history from the day you installed the snippet (within your plan's data history).
- Sense AI assistant (Contentsquare's AI) on Growth and up for plain-language questions.
- Heap Connect sends Heap data to your warehouse. It is an add-on on Pro and included in Premier.
- Data is kept when you go over your limit, though you must upgrade before you can view it again.
Pricing
Heap prices by monthly sessions. Free covers up to 10k sessions/month, core charts, 6 months of data history, SSO and 1 project. Growth has no published price; Heap gives an estimate after you install the free snippet. It adds the Sense AI assistant, unlimited users and reports, CSV exports and 12 months of history. Pro and Premier use custom session pricing. Pro adds account analytics, an engagement matrix and report alerts, with 1 year of history. Premier adds Heap Connect, behavioral targeting, unlimited projects, region-specific storage and a dedicated CSM. Session replay is an add-on on Pro and Premier, and history can be extended up to 3 years as an add-on. Heap offers a free trial with no credit card.
Pros
- Autocapture without a tracking plan
- SSO even on the Free plan
- Over-limit data is not lost
Cons
- No feature flags, experiments or surveys
- Session replay costs extra and is not in Free or Growth
- No published paid prices
Choose Heap if you want analytics that work from day one without instrumentation planning, and you do not need flags or experiments. Skip it if you need PostHog's experimentation or survey features, or a price you can see before talking to sales.
Statsig
Statsig is a feature flag and experimentation platform that also includes product analytics and session replay. Amplitude acquired Statsig on May 5, 2026. Statsig is still sold as its own product with its own pricing page, and Amplitude says it is building data-layer integration so Amplitude events and cohorts work inside Statsig.
What it does well for PostHog switchers
- Unlimited flag and config checks on every tier. PostHog bills flag requests after 1M.
- Advanced experiment statistics, including CUPED, sequential testing, switchback and non-inferiority tests.
- Large replay allowance: 50,000 session replays/month free and 100,000 on Pro.
- Warehouse native deployment on Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery and Redshift for Enterprise customers.
Pricing
Developer (free): 2M metered events/month, unlimited flag checks, 50,000 replays, A/B tests, product and web analytics, 1-year analytics retention and unlimited seats. Above 2M events, metric lift computations stop, but flags keep working.
Pro: $150/month, charged at the start of each monthly billing period. It includes 5M metered events, then $0.05 per additional 1K events, billed the following period. It adds advanced experimentation, unlimited analytics retention and change approvals. One project per Pro subscription.
Enterprise: custom contracts with SSO, RBAC, warehouse native deployment and HIPAA eligibility.
Metered events include both logged events and experiment exposures, so heavy experimentation uses up the allowance faster.
Pros
- Flat, published Pro price with 5M events included
- Unlimited flag checks
- Strong stats engine for experiments
Cons
- Owned by Amplitude, so its future is tied to Amplitude's plans
- No surveys or in-app guides
- SSO only on Enterprise
Choose Statsig if flags and experiments were your main reason for using PostHog. Skip it if you want an independent vendor, or you need surveys and a broad analytics suite in one tool.
Plausible Analytics
Plausible is a different kind of tool. It is cookieless web analytics: one dashboard with visitors, sources, pages, goals and conversions, with no cookies and no personal data collected. It is EU-hosted on European-owned infrastructure. If you used PostHog only to see traffic on your marketing site, Plausible is far simpler.
What it does well for PostHog switchers
- No cookie banner needed, because Plausible does not use cookies or collect personal data.
- A dashboard anyone can read, with a real-time view, goals, custom events and revenue tracking.
- Open source. Plausible Community Edition is free to self-host under the AGPL.
- No overage fees. One month over your tier is fine; after two consecutive months over, Plausible asks you to upgrade.
Pricing
Plausible prices by monthly pageviews plus custom events. Billed monthly, Starter (1 site, 3-year retention) runs from $9/month for 10k to $169/month for 10M. Growth (up to 3 sites and 3 team members) runs from $14 to $254/month. Business (up to 10 sites and 10 team members, 5-year retention, funnels, custom properties, Stats API and ecommerce revenue attribution) runs from $19 to $339/month. Yearly billing costs 10 times the monthly price, so you get 2 months free. Enterprise is custom and adds SSO and scheduled raw event exports. All plans start with a 30-day free trial, no credit card.
Pros
- Privacy-first by design
- Simple, readable dashboard
- Predictable pricing with no overage fees
Cons
- No user-level analytics, cohorts or retention
- No replay, flags, experiments or surveys
- Very small G2 review base (3 reviews)
Choose Plausible if you need website traffic stats and want to drop cookie banners. Skip it if you analyze logged-in user behavior in your product; Plausible does not do that.
Pendo
Pendo combines product analytics with in-app guides. PostHog does not sell a guide builder (its docs describe product tours as a private alpha). For B2B SaaS teams that want to onboard users, announce features and collect NPS inside the app, Pendo replaces PostHog analytics and adds a mature guide product.
What it does well for PostHog switchers
- In-app guides on every plan, using the same user data as the analytics.
- Retroactive analytics. Pendo says you can access your product's complete data history from the day you install.
- Sentiment surveys (NPS, PMF, CSAT) on Ultimate, with Pendo-branded NPS on Free.
- Leo, an AI assistant for questions in plain language.
Pricing
Pendo prices by monthly active users (unique visitors active in the last 30 days). Free covers up to 500 MAU with analytics, in-app guides, and Pendo-branded roadmaps and NPS. Pendo Free (500 MAU) is still listed, but Pendo now points new users to its Novus beta, a separate AI-native product that is free during the beta. Paid plans are Base (analytics and guides), Core (adds session replay) and Ultimate (adds Sentiment, Orchestrate, Listen and Data Sync). All three are priced on request for your MAU volume. Pendo offers a 30-day free trial of the full platform through sales.
Pros
- Guides and analytics in one product
- Retroactive data from install
- Full-platform trial
Cons
- No feature flags or A/B experiments
- Session replay needs Core or Ultimate
- No published paid prices; costs grow with MAU
Choose Pendo if onboarding and in-app messaging matter as much as analytics. Skip it if you mainly need flags and experiments, or you want a self-serve price.
Cost Example: 5M Events and 50k Monthly Users
Here is what one startup profile would pay per month on list prices, checked on each vendor's pricing page in October 2026. The profile: about 5M events/month, about 50k monthly tracked users, 10 people who need access. Taxes and optional add-ons are excluded.
| Tool | Plan | Monthly cost | How we got it |
|---|---|---|---|
| PostHog | Pay-as-you-go (analytics only) | $152.90 (all anonymous) to $560.00 (all identified) | See the math below |
| Mixpanel | Growth | $438 billed annually ($5,256/year) or $613 billed monthly | Mixpanel's 5M-events price row |
| Amplitude | Plus | $281 billed monthly, or $2,700/year billed annually (about $225/month) | Amplitude's Plus calculator at 5M events |
| Statsig | Pro | $150 | Pro includes 5M metered events, so no overage |
| Heap | Growth or Pro | By quote | Session-based, not published |
| Pendo | Base or Core | By quote | MAU-based, not published |
| Plausible Analytics | Business | $259 billed monthly ($2,590/year billed yearly) | 5M tier; only if the 5M are pageviews and custom events |
PostHog math. The first 1M events are free. If all events are anonymous: 1M events at $0.00005 ($50.00) plus 3M at $0.0000343 ($102.90) = $152.90. If all events are identified, add the person-profile charge: 1M at $0.000198 ($198.00) plus 3M at $0.0000697 ($209.10) = $407.10, for a total of $560.00. Most SaaS products land between these numbers. Session replay stays free up to 5K recordings, and flags up to 1M requests. Adding SAML SSO would add the Scale package at $750/month.
Mixpanel includes SAML SSO at this price; Amplitude and Statsig need their custom-priced Growth or Enterprise plans for SSO. Statsig's 5M metered events include experiment exposures, so a team running many experiments may exceed the allowance and pay $0.05 per extra 1K events. Plausible is only comparable if you are measuring website traffic; it does not track users across sessions the way the others do.
Seats are not a cost driver for PostHog, Mixpanel, Amplitude or Statsig: all four list unlimited seats. Plausible's Growth plan ($194/month at 5M) caps you at 3 team members, which is why we used Business for a 10-person team.
How to Choose
Start from the PostHog products you use
List the PostHog products in your billing page with real usage. If it is mostly analytics, compare Mixpanel and Amplitude. If it is mostly flags and experiments, start with Statsig. If it is web analytics on a marketing site, look at Plausible. If you want in-app onboarding, add Pendo.
Count identified events
If most of your events come from logged-in users, PostHog's identified-event price applies, and the gap to Amplitude and Mixpanel narrows or reverses. At 5M identified events, PostHog analytics costs $560/month, more than Amplitude Plus ($281 billed monthly) and close to Mixpanel Growth billed monthly ($613).
Check the SSO gate
SAML SSO is often the deciding cost. It is included in Mixpanel Growth. It needs PostHog's Scale package ($750/month), Amplitude Growth (custom), Statsig Enterprise (custom) or Plausible Enterprise (custom). Heap lists SSO on its Free plan.
Decide on published vs quoted prices
PostHog, Mixpanel, Amplitude Plus, Statsig and Plausible publish their prices. Heap's paid plans and Pendo's paid plans are by quote. If you need a number for a budget today, the published tools are easier.
Consider ownership
Statsig is now owned by Amplitude, and Heap is part of Contentsquare. That can mean deeper integration with the parent's products over time. If vendor independence matters to you, weigh it.
Plan for 2-3 tools if you replace everything
No single alternative matches all of PostHog. Amplitude comes closest. A common setup is one analytics tool (Mixpanel or Amplitude), one experimentation tool (Statsig) if you test heavily, and Plausible for the public website.
Final Recommendations
- For most product teams leaving PostHog: Mixpanel. One meter, experiments and flags on every plan, SAML SSO included on Growth. Expect to pay more than PostHog for anonymous traffic.
- For replacing PostHog with one vendor: Amplitude. The widest feature coverage, and cheaper than Mixpanel at 5M events, as long as you can live with 1 active experiment or negotiate Growth.
- For flags and experiments: Statsig. $150/month Pro with unlimited flag checks. Note the Amplitude ownership.
- For analytics without a tracking plan: Heap. Retroactive autocapture, but no flags or experiments and quote-only paid plans.
- For cookieless website stats: Plausible Analytics. Simple and privacy-first, and not a product analytics tool.
- For onboarding and in-app guides: Pendo. Something PostHog does not sell today, at a price you will need to request.
And if you use most of PostHog's products and your team is technical, staying put is a reasonable choice. Set billing limits per product and keep person profiles to logged-in users to control the identified-event cost.
