What to Look for in Employee Engagement Software in 2026
An engagement platform should tell you how people feel about working at your company and help managers act on it. Most tools can send a survey. The differences show up before and after it goes out. These are the criteria that matter most.
Survey types. Look past the big annual survey. Do you get short pulse surveys? Does it track eNPS (employee Net Promoter Score)? Are there lifecycle surveys for onboarding and exit? Vendors differ here, and some don't name eNPS on their engagement pages at all.
Benchmarks. A score means little on its own. Benchmarks tell you whether it's good for your size, industry or region. Check where the data comes from. Culture Amp says its benchmarks draw on over 1 billion survey responses. Lattice's are powered by Mercer. Quantum Workplace cites a database of 10,000+ organizations. Workday Peakon Employee Voice adjusts its benchmark for demographic differences.
Analysis of comments. Open-text answers hold the useful detail. Most tools now offer AI summaries, themes or sentiment analysis. Check that you can trace a theme back to the comments behind it.
Action planning. A survey with no follow-up is worse than no survey. Look for action plans managers can own, with deadlines, tracking and suggested actions.
Manager tools. Some platforms include 1-on-1s, recognition and feedback tools alongside surveys. Others sell those as a separate performance product.
Standalone or suite. Can you buy engagement on its own? This affects budget and how hard it is to leave later. Lattice, 15Five and Culture Amp sell engagement as its own product. Leapsome requires its HRIS platform underneath. Workleap sells one platform that bundles engagement with performance and recognition.
Pricing you can plan around. Three tools in this guide publish per-seat prices (Lattice, 15Five and Leapsome). Workleap publishes starting prices. Culture Amp, Workday Peakon and Quantum Workplace are quote only, and Quantum Workplace states a $15,000 minimum annual contract.
Privacy and anonymity. People answer honestly only if they trust the anonymity. Look for minimum group sizes before results show, and a way to follow up on anonymous comments.
Culture Amp review
Culture Amp's Engage product is built around research-backed surveys and benchmarks. You can buy Engage on its own, buy Perform (performance management) on its own, or take the Full Platform with both. People Science Consulting is an add-on.
The main draw is the benchmark data: Culture Amp says it draws on over 1 billion survey responses. AI comment summaries condense open-text answers, and the AI Coach helps managers build action plans.
Key features
- Engagement and pulse surveys with 40+ ready-to-use templates
- Onboarding, offboarding and DEI surveys, plus Retention Insights
- Benchmarks drawn from over 1 billion survey responses
- AI comment summaries and an AI Coach for building action plans
- Optional Perform product: performance reviews, calibration, 1-on-1s, goals and 360 feedback
Pricing
Culture Amp publishes no list prices. Quotes depend on employee count, the product you choose and your service tier. The offerings are:
- Engage: engagement surveys. Quote only.
- Perform: performance management. Quote only.
- Full Platform: Engage plus Perform. Quote only.
- People Science Consulting: add-on. Quote only.
All products are billed annually. Every plan includes AI Coach, a multilingual platform, SSO, shoutouts, HRIS integrations, 1-on-1 templates, and Slack and Microsoft Teams integrations. Support depends on company size, with bands for under 200, 200 to 999, and 1,000+ employees. Companies under 200 employees get group support. 1-on-1 Customer Success is only for companies with 200 or more employees. No free plan or free trial is stated; you request a demo.
Pros
- Very large benchmark dataset (over 1 billion responses)
- AI comment summaries and AI-guided action plans
- Engage can be bought without the performance product
- Slack, Teams, SSO and HRIS integrations included in every plan
Cons
- No published prices, so you can't budget before talking to sales
- Annual billing only, and no free trial stated
- Dedicated Customer Success only for companies with 200+ employees
- eNPS and heat maps are not named on the Engage product page, so confirm in a demo if you rely on them
Who should use it
Mid-size and large companies that want a research-backed survey program with a large benchmark, and may add performance reviews later.
Who should skip it
Small teams that want a published price, or companies under 200 employees that expect a named Customer Success contact.
Lattice review
Lattice sells three base products per seat: Performance, Goals & OKRs and Engagement. You can buy Engagement alone, and at $4/seat/month it's one of the cheapest published options here.
It covers pulse, onboarding and exit surveys plus eNPS. Benchmarks are powered by Mercer, by industry, region and company size. Results come with AI driver analysis, comment sentiment and heatmaps, and action plans include suggested actions by theme.
1:1s, Weekly Updates, Feedback and Q&A Boards are included with base products, so managers get follow-up tools even if you only buy Engagement.
Key features
- Pulse, onboarding and exit surveys plus eNPS
- Benchmarks by industry, region and company size, powered by Mercer
- AI analysis of drivers and trends, comment sentiment analysis and heatmaps
- Action plans with suggested actions by theme
- 1:1s, Weekly Updates, Feedback and Q&A Boards included with base products
Pricing
All prices are per seat per month in USD, and all contracts are billed annually.
- Engagement: $4/seat/month
- Performance: $10/seat/month
- Goals & OKRs: $8/seat/month
- Compensation add-on: +$6/seat/month
- Grow add-on: +$4/seat/month
There is a minimum annual agreement of $4,000, which can span products and seat counts. Analytics, AI Agent and Integrations are included with all base products. Custom bundles are available through sales. No free plan or free trial is stated, though Lattice offers a demo and a free product tour.
Pros
- Published per-seat prices you can budget against
- Engagement module is only $4/seat/month
- Mercer-powered benchmarks with industry, region and size filters
- 1:1s and feedback tools come with the base product
Cons
- $4,000 annual minimum, which small teams will hit before their seat count does
- Annual billing only
- No free trial
- Compensation and Grow cost extra on top of base products
Who should use it
Companies that want engagement surveys with eNPS, lifecycle surveys and Mercer benchmarks at a clear per-seat price, with a path to performance or goals later.
Who should skip it
Very small teams. At $4 per seat per month ($48 per seat per year), you need about 84 seats before your seat cost passes the $4,000 minimum. Below that, you pay $4,000 anyway.
15Five review
15Five's Engage product matches Lattice at $4 per user per month and stands on its own: engagement surveys, targeted assessments, lifecycle surveys (onboarding and exit), benchmarking, eNPS, heat maps and action planning.
The standout is the Predictive Impact Model, which points to the factors most likely to move engagement. With AI summaries of open-text answers, it helps HR decide where to focus. Action Plans & Coach Support give managers a structure for follow-up.
Key features
- Engagement surveys, targeted or custom assessments, and lifecycle surveys (onboarding, exit)
- Benchmarking and eNPS tracking
- Dynamic heat maps and filtered dashboards
- Action Plans & Coach Support for managers
- Predictive Impact Model and AI summaries of open-text responses
Pricing
Prices are per user per month, billed annually (15Five's pricing page says "Updated February 2026").
- Engage: $4/user/month. Engagement surveys, targeted assessments, action planning, heat maps, benchmarking.
- Perform: $11/user/month. AI-assisted reviews, OKRs and goals, 360 feedback, Talent Matrix, career paths, Insights Dashboard.
- Total Platform: $16/user/month. Engage plus Perform, with an HR Dashboard and manager training microlearnings.
Add-ons:
- Manager Content: $49/manager/month
- Coaching: $399/credit
- Kona Notetaker: $2/employee/month
- Kona Coach: $19/manager/month
- Compensation: $9/user/month, or $11 with Mercer salary benchmarking
No seat minimum is listed for the core plans, though some add-ons may have minimums. No free plan or free trial is stated.
Pros
- Published prices, with Engage at $4/user/month
- eNPS, benchmarks and heat maps included in Engage
- Predictive Impact Model points to top engagement drivers
- No seat minimum listed for core plans
- Optional manager coaching and training add-ons
Cons
- Annual billing only
- No free trial stated
- Coaching and AI add-ons can raise the cost quickly
- Pulse surveys are not named on the Engage page, so confirm the survey cadence you need in a demo
Who should use it
Small and mid-size teams that want low-cost engagement surveys with real analysis. No listed seat minimum on core plans makes it friendlier than Lattice for small headcounts.
Who should skip it
Teams built around frequent pulse surveys should check first, since the Engage page doesn't mention pulses. If you'll want coaching and AI add-ons, price them in.
Workleap review
Workleap is the new home of Officevibe. The site banner says "Officevibe & Pingboard are now Workleap!", and it's now sold as one manager-focused platform with Team Health & Feedback, Good Vibes recognition, and Meetings & 1:1s.
It runs pulse and custom surveys with anonymous feedback shown only when privacy rules are met. Results roll up into team health and engagement reports, and managers build action plans with deadlines and tracking.
Instead of paying per employee, you pay a base fee plus a charge per manager. That can work out well if each manager has a large team.
Key features
- Pulse and custom surveys with anonymous feedback (shown only when privacy rules are met)
- Team health and engagement reports, with AI analyses
- Good Vibes recognition cards
- Meetings & 1:1s with agendas, notes and follow-up
- Action plans with deadlines and progress tracking
Pricing
Plans are billed annually, and pricing applies to new customers.
- Standard: starting at $4,999 USD + $32/manager/month. Includes performance management, team health and engagement reports, AI analyses, org chart, goals, Recognition & Good Vibes, integrations and SSO.
- Pro: starting at $11,999 USD + $32/manager/month. Adds Advanced Intelligence, MCP access, SAML SSO, API access, custom properties and segments, and personalized onboarding.
- Enterprise (250+ employees): custom pricing.
The pricing page does not say what period the base price covers, so confirm that with Workleap. No free plan or free trial is stated; you can request a demo. The old Officevibe free plan isn't mentioned anywhere on the current site.
Pros
- Published starting prices
- Priced per manager, not per employee
- Recognition (Good Vibes) and 1:1s included
- Anonymous feedback with privacy thresholds
- Performance management and goals come in the same plan
Cons
- $4,999 starting base fee, and the period it covers isn't stated
- No free plan or trial stated
- API access and SAML SSO need the Pro plan
- Companies over 250 employees move to custom Enterprise pricing
- eNPS and benchmarks are not named on the engagement page
Who should use it
Small and mid-size companies that want engagement, recognition and 1:1s together, where per-manager pricing beats per-employee pricing. Former Officevibe users will find their tools here.
Who should skip it
Companies that need eNPS or benchmarks should confirm those first. Over 250 employees, there's no published price. If you only want surveys, you're paying for a broader platform.
Workday Peakon Employee Voice review
Peakon is now listed under its current name, Workday Peakon Employee Voice. It's built for continuous listening: an automated survey cadence with question rotation and per-question frequency, so employees answer a few questions often.
The engagement score is built on an eNPS question plus questions on loyalty, satisfaction and belief. Its True Benchmark is adjusted for demographic differences. NLP analysis surfaces topics in employee comments. Managers get focus areas and action plans with deadlines, plus confidential two-way conversations with employees.
On integrations, Peakon connects to Workday and also to BambooHR, HiBob, Personio and SCIM 2.0, with Slack and Teams integrations too. Workday's integrations datasheet describes SCIM and REST API options for non-Workday customers, but the product page does not state that Peakon is sold on its own. If you don't run Workday HCM, confirm availability with Workday before you shortlist it.
Key features
- Engagement score built on an eNPS question plus loyalty, satisfaction and belief questions
- Automated survey cadence with question rotation and per-question frequency
- True Benchmark adjusted for demographic differences
- NLP analysis of employee comments to surface topics
- Manager focus areas and action plans with deadlines, plus confidential two-way conversations
Pricing
Workday publishes no prices for Peakon Employee Voice. It is sales quote only. No free plan or free trial is stated; you can request a demo.
Pros
- Demographic-adjusted benchmarks
- Automated question rotation suits frequent pulses
- Built-in action planning and focus areas for managers
- Connects to Workday plus BambooHR, HiBob, Personio and SCIM 2.0
Cons
- No published prices
- Only one HR system integration can be active at a time
- Editing a standard question's wording must be repeated in each language you use
- Instances on the classic model must wait for the Flexible Listening upgrade (26R2/27R1 releases); instances created on or after 31 March 2026 use the new model
Who should use it
Larger organizations, especially Workday HCM customers, that want always-on listening with benchmarks and manager action plans.
Who should skip it
Smaller companies that want published prices, and companies outside Workday that can't confirm standalone availability.
Leapsome review
Leapsome calls itself "The Agentic HR Platform": an HRIS with a Talent Suite of modules on top. Engagement Surveys is one module, and you need the HRIS platform (Foundation or Pro) underneath it.
The module covers engagement, onboarding, project and pulse surveys with eNPS, plus industry benchmarks. AI Copilot produces summaries, themes, sentiment and action plans. Surveys are anonymous by default, and Anonymous Conversations let managers follow up without revealing who wrote a comment.
Leapsome is also the only tool in this guide with a stated free trial (14 days).
Key features
- Engagement, onboarding, project and pulse surveys with eNPS tracking
- Research-backed templates and custom questions
- Benchmarking against industry peers
- AI Copilot summaries, themes, sentiment and AI-driven action plans
- Anonymous surveys by default with Anonymous Conversations follow-up
Pricing
Leapsome shows prices per employee per month in EUR only. USD prices are not confirmed on the pricing page.
Platform (required):
- Agentic HRIS Foundation: €7/employee/month list, €0 with any Talent Suite module until Dec 31
- Agentic HRIS Pro: €10/employee/month
Talent Suite modules (per employee per month):
- Engagement Surveys: €4
- Performance Reviews: €7
- Recruiting (ATS): €5
- Goals & OKRs: €4
- Learning: €4
- Compensation: €3
- Time Tracking: €3
Add-ons: Compensation benchmarks €3, Learning content library from €1. There is no setup fee, and multi-module and volume discounts are available through sales. The pricing page does not say whether these are monthly or annual billing prices. The page also showed some inconsistencies when checked, so confirm the current figures with Leapsome.
Pros
- Published per-employee module prices
- 14-day free trial
- No setup fee
- AI action plans and anonymous follow-up conversations
Cons
- Must buy the HRIS platform plus the Engagement module
- Prices shown in EUR only
- The free Foundation offer ends Dec 31, after which the platform fee applies
- Costs add up with several modules
- Microsoft Teams is not mentioned on the engagement page (Slack is named for reminders)
Who should use it
Growing companies that want engagement alongside HRIS, performance and goals, especially if they're shopping for an HRIS anyway.
Who should skip it
Teams happy with their current HRIS that only want surveys. US buyers should get USD quotes in writing.
Quantum Workplace review
Quantum Workplace pairs engagement software with a service layer. It sells Engagement, Performance, Development and Recognition, bundled or a la carte, and runs the Best Places to Work contest program.
You get engagement, pulse and lifecycle surveys, benchmarks from 10,000+ organizations, an action library, and AI narrative insights with comment sentiment.
What sets it apart is analyst support on the higher service tiers.
Key features
- Engagement, pulse and lifecycle surveys
- Benchmarks from a database of 10,000+ organizations, plus Best Places to Work
- Action planning tools with an action library and tracking
- AI-powered narrative insights with sentiment analysis of comments
- Recognition, rewards and lightweight 1-on-1s
Pricing
Quantum Workplace has no per-employee list prices. Pricing depends on total employee count and the products you choose, with multi-product and volume discounts. There are three service tiers:
- Signature: minimum contract value of $15,000. Dedicated CSM, guided implementation, live admin training and unlimited tech support.
- Signature Plus: adds annual engagement survey implementation, a survey design session, insights analysis and an executive presentation. Quote only.
- Premium: adds a dedicated Insights Analyst, strategic design sessions and live manager training. Quote only.
There's no implementation fee. Every plan includes SSO, HRIS, Slack, Teams and calendar integrations, 1-on-1s, AI-assisted workflows, 40+ languages and a mobile app. No free plan or free trial is stated.
Pros
- Benchmarks from 10,000+ organizations
- Analyst-led survey design on higher tiers
- 40+ languages and a mobile app in every plan
- No implementation fee
Cons
- $15,000 minimum annual contract
- No public per-employee prices
- Analyst services only on Signature Plus and Premium
- eNPS and heat maps are not named on the engagement page
Who should use it
Mid-size and larger organizations that want help running their survey program, not just software.
Who should skip it
Small companies, for whom a $15,000 minimum is hard to justify, and teams that want a self-serve tool with a price on the website.
Head-to-Head Comparison
Survey types: pulse, eNPS and lifecycle
"Not named" means we couldn't confirm it on the vendor's pages, not that it's missing.
| Tool | Pulse | eNPS | Lifecycle (onboarding/exit) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Culture Amp | Yes | Not named | Onboarding and offboarding, plus DEI |
| Lattice | Yes | Yes | Onboarding and exit |
| 15Five | Not named | Yes | Onboarding and exit |
| Workleap | Yes, plus custom | Not named | Not named |
| Workday Peakon | Automated cadence with question rotation | Built into engagement score | Not named |
| Leapsome | Yes | Yes | Onboarding, plus project surveys |
| Quantum Workplace | Yes | Not named | Yes |
Lattice and Leapsome confirm all three. Peakon is the most "always on".
Benchmarks
- Culture Amp: over 1 billion survey responses.
- Lattice: powered by Mercer, by industry, region and company size.
- 15Five: benchmarking included in Engage.
- Workleap: not named on the engagement page.
- Workday Peakon: True Benchmark, adjusted for demographic differences.
- Leapsome: benchmarking against industry peers.
- Quantum Workplace: a database of 10,000+ organizations, plus Best Places to Work.
Culture Amp, Lattice, Peakon and Quantum Workplace say the most about where their data comes from.
Action planning and manager tools
Every tool here offers action planning. The differences are in manager support:
- Culture Amp: AI Coach for action plans; 1-on-1 templates and shoutouts.
- Lattice: suggested actions by theme; 1:1s and Feedback included.
- 15Five: Action Plans & Coach Support; optional Kona Coach ($19/manager/month).
- Workleap: action plans with deadlines, Good Vibes and 1:1s.
- Workday Peakon: focus areas, action plans and confidential two-way conversations.
- Leapsome: AI action plans and Anonymous Conversations.
- Quantum Workplace: action library, recognition and 1-on-1s; live manager training on Premium.
Can you buy engagement alone?
- Yes, as its own product: Culture Amp (Engage), Lattice (Engagement), 15Five (Engage), Quantum Workplace (a la carte).
- Only with a platform: Leapsome (needs the HRIS Foundation or Pro underneath).
- Bundled: Workleap (one platform including performance, goals and recognition).
- Unclear: Workday Peakon. The integrations datasheet supports non-Workday customers, but confirm with Workday.
Worked cost example: 150 employees, 15 managers
Here's what engagement alone would cost for a 150-person company with 15 people managers, using only published prices. Lattice and 15Five bill annually; the yearly figure is the monthly price times 12.
- Lattice Engagement: 150 seats × $4 × 12 = $7,200 per year. That's above the $4,000 minimum, so the minimum doesn't apply.
- 15Five Engage: 150 users × $4 × 12 = $7,200 per year.
- Leapsome Engagement Surveys + Foundation (promo): 150 × (€4 + €0) × 12 = €7,200 per year while the free Foundation offer lasts (until Dec 31). At the €7 Foundation list price: 150 × (€4 + €7) × 12 = €19,800 per year.
- Workleap Standard (includes performance and goals): 15 managers × $32 × 12 = $5,760 per year, plus the starting base fee of $4,999. The pricing page doesn't state what period the base fee covers, so we haven't combined them into one yearly total.
- Quantum Workplace: quote only, but the minimum contract is $15,000 per year, so that's your floor.
- Culture Amp and Workday Peakon: left out because neither publishes prices.
If you want engagement plus performance for the same 150 people:
- Lattice Engagement + Performance: 150 × ($4 + $10) × 12 = $25,200 per year.
- 15Five Total Platform: 150 × $16 × 12 = $28,800 per year.
- Leapsome Engagement + Performance Reviews (promo Foundation): 150 × (€4 + €7 + €0) × 12 = €19,800 per year.
For a 50-person team, the picture changes. 15Five Engage would be 50 × $4 × 12 = $2,400 per year. Lattice Engagement would also be $2,400 in seat cost, but the $4,000 minimum means you pay $4,000.
How to Choose: Decision Framework
Questions to answer first
- Engagement only, or plus performance? Lattice, 15Five and Culture Amp sell engagement alone. Leapsome and Workleap bundle more.
- How often will you survey? For continuous listening, look at Peakon's automated cadence.
- Which survey types are must-haves? Lattice and Leapsome name pulse, eNPS and lifecycle surveys. Confirm the rest in a demo.
- How much do benchmarks matter? Ask where the data comes from.
- Do you need expert help? Look at Quantum Workplace's higher tiers or Culture Amp's People Science Consulting.
- What HR system are you on? Workday customers should look at Peakon first.
- Need a price before sales calls? Start with Lattice, 15Five, Leapsome and Workleap.
Red flags
- A vendor can't explain the minimum group size before results are shown.
- The demo shows dashboards, but no way for managers to turn results into actions.
- Benchmarks with no clear source or size.
- Minimums, base fees or add-ons you only learn about late. Ask in the first call.
What to test in a demo or trial
- Build a pulse and an onboarding survey from templates.
- Filter a report to one small team and check what is hidden.
- Trace an AI comment theme back to the comments.
- Walk through a manager's view: what do they do next?
- Confirm Slack or Teams support if you rely on either.
- Ask how to export your survey history if you leave.
- Leapsome is the only tool here with a stated free trial (14 days). For the others, ask for a pilot.
The Verdict: Final Recommendations
1. Culture Amp: best overall for benchmarked engagement surveys
Pick it if benchmarks matter most and you have 200+ employees to get dedicated Customer Success. Expect a quote.
2. Lattice: best for clear per-seat pricing
$4/seat/month with Mercer benchmarks, eNPS and lifecycle surveys. Watch the $4,000 minimum.
3. 15Five: best budget pick with manager focus
$4/user/month with eNPS, heat maps and the Predictive Impact Model, and no listed core-plan seat minimum.
4. Workleap: best for manager-centric small companies
The former Officevibe. Per-manager pricing, recognition and 1:1s suit companies with large teams per manager.
5. Workday Peakon Employee Voice: best for Workday enterprises
Continuous listening with a demographic-adjusted benchmark, for Workday HCM customers.
6. Leapsome: best inside a full HR platform
€4/employee/month on top of an HRIS, with a 14-day free trial.
7. Quantum Workplace: best for analyst-supported programs
A $15,000 minimum, with a dedicated CSM and analysts on higher tiers.
Conclusion
Pick the tool your managers will actually act on. If you want published prices, start with Lattice or 15Five at $4 per seat per month. If benchmarks and research depth matter most, talk to Culture Amp. Workday shops should look at Peakon, and teams that want hands-on help should look at Quantum Workplace. Whatever you choose, test the manager experience, not just the survey builder.
