Tally and Typeform are the two names that come up most when people look for a form builder that looks better than a plain survey tool. They solve the same job in very different ways. Typeform shows one question at a time and charges by how many responses you collect each month. Tally gives you a page you type into like a document and puts almost everything on a free plan with no response cap.
That difference in pricing model matters more than any single feature. A form that collects 50 responses a month costs about the same on either tool. A form that collects 5,000 a month can cost nothing on Tally and more than $1,000 a year on Typeform. This page compares the two plan by plan and feature by feature, using each vendor's own pricing and help pages as checked in October 2026, then looks at four other tools that beat both in specific cases.
The Quick Answer
Pick Tally if you want the most features for the least money. Its free plan includes unlimited forms and submissions under a fair use policy, plus payments, file uploads, signatures, logic, calculations, hidden fields and webhooks. Tally Pro, at $24/month billed yearly or $29 monthly, removes Tally branding, adds custom domains and partial submissions, and allows unlimited team members.
Pick Typeform if the one-question-at-a-time experience is central to your brand, or you need things Tally does not offer: recurring payments, PayPal, Salesforce from Business, or HIPAA with a signed BAA on Enterprise. Expect to pay by response volume. Basic starts at $28/month billed yearly ($39 monthly) for 100 responses a month and one user.
For most small teams, startups, creators and anyone in the EU, Tally is the better value. Typeform earns its price when design polish and its larger integration and compliance options are worth more to you than the cost per response.

Tally review
Overview
Tally is a form builder from Tally BV, a company based in Belgium. Its editor works like a writing app: you type text, then press "/" to add blocks such as questions. A form can be a single page or many pages. Tally's pitch is simple: nearly every feature is free, and you pay only for branding, team and pro tools.
Key features
- Document-style editor with single or multi-page forms
- Free plan with conditional logic, calculations, answer piping, hidden fields, payments, signatures and file uploads (10 MB per file)
- Stripe payments with no extra Tally fee on top of Stripe's own
- Native integrations with Google Sheets, Notion, Airtable, Zapier, Make and webhooks on the free plan, plus an API
- Prevent duplicate submissions, password protection, closing a form on a date or a response limit, and redirects, all free
- Forms in 45+ languages, including right-to-left scripts
- All form data stored in Europe
- Tally AI, a chat assistant in the editor, available to every user since July 8, 2026, and a free MCP server
Pricing
Tally has three plans, all priced per account rather than per user:
- Free: $0. Unlimited forms and submissions under the fair use policy. Tally branding shown. 10 MB per uploaded file.
- Pro: $29/month, or $24/month billed yearly ($290/year, which Tally describes as two months free). Removes Tally branding, adds custom domains, partial submissions, collaboration with workspaces and folders, custom CSS, respondent emails, custom email domains, link previews, visit and drop-off analytics, Google Analytics and Meta Pixel, 30-day version history and unlimited file upload size. Unlimited team members.
- Business: $89/month, or $74/month billed yearly ($890/year). Everything in Pro plus data retention controls, respondent email verification and 90-day version history.
The word "unlimited" has a limit. Tally's fair use policy describes extensive usage as consistently collecting 50,000 submissions a month, 100 GB of uploads a month or 500 GB of total storage, or sending 50,000 email notifications a month. Occasional spikes are fine. If high volume continues for three or four months in a row, Tally offers a custom plan based on past usage, billed quarterly on top of your subscription.
Pros
- The free plan includes payments, signatures, file uploads, logic and webhooks
- No response caps on any plan, within fair use
- Pro is the cheapest way to remove branding and add a custom domain of the two
- Unlimited team members on Pro
- EU company with all form data stored in Europe
Cons
- Payments run through Stripe only, and recurring payments are not supported
- Partial submissions and drop-off analytics need Pro
- The editor does not give the one-question-per-screen layout Typeform is known for
- HIPAA and SSO are not listed on Tally's pricing or help pages we checked
Who should use it
Founders, freelancers, creators, nonprofits and small teams who want a capable form for free or close to it. Tally is also a strong fit for teams that use Notion or Airtable, and for EU organizations that want form data kept in Europe without an enterprise contract.
Who should skip it
Healthcare teams that need a signed BAA, businesses that sell subscriptions through their forms, and companies whose brand depends on Typeform's conversational, one-question-at-a-time feel.
Typeform review
Overview
Typeform is best known for the one-question-per-screen form. Each question fills the screen, respondents press Enter or tap to move on, and the result feels closer to a conversation than a page of fields. Typeform has since grown into a family of plans, including an HR-focused Talent plan and Growth Flow for lead capture and follow-up.
Key features
- One question at a time layout with strong themes and design control
- Logic with branching, calculations, scores, variables and recall, all on the free plan
- URL parameters (formerly called Hidden Fields) on the free plan
- Stripe payments (one-time and recurring) and PayPal from Basic
- Integrations including Zapier, Google Sheets, Airtable, HubSpot, Slack, Mailchimp and Pipedrive, plus webhooks and an API; Salesforce from Business
- Partial responses through Partial Submit Points
- AI form creation on all plans, plus an MCP connector for Claude and ChatGPT
Pricing
Typeform plans are priced per account and capped by monthly responses:
- Free: $0. Unlimited typeforms, 10 responses a month across all forms (from Typeform's help center; the pricing page does not state it). Paid features can be tried in trial mode, but forms that use them cannot be published.
- Basic: $39/month, or $28/month billed yearly ($336/year). 100 responses a month (you can buy more, up to 750), 1 user, 1 GB file storage. Adds payments, file uploads, one Partial Submit Point, your logo, knowledge quiz mode and webhooks.
- Plus: $79/month, or $56/month billed yearly ($672/year). 1,000 responses a month (up to 2,500), 3 users, 2 GB storage. Removes Typeform branding, adds a custom subdomain, brand kit, premium themes, redirects and reCAPTCHA.
- Business: $129/month, or $91/month billed yearly ($1,092/year). 10,000 responses a month (up to 50,000), 5 users, 4 GB storage. Adds drop-off analysis, conversion tracking, up to three Partial Submit Points and priority support with live chat.
- Talent: $169/month, or $119/month billed yearly. 3,000 responses, 3 users, aimed at hiring, with video questions and Clarify with AI.
- Growth Flow: $379/month, or $266/month billed yearly, with a 14-day trial (card required). 10,000 responses, 5 users, Smart Insights, Salesforce, signature questions and partial capture after every question.
- Enterprise: contact sales. SSO, HIPAA with a BAA, EU data center for new customers, up to 10 custom domains and an admin panel.
Typeform's pricing page currently shows different numbers in its lower comparison table than on its plan cards, and its help center says the company is experimenting with pricing. Prices may vary for you. This page uses the plan card prices.
Pros
- The best known one-question-at-a-time experience
- Logic, calculations and URL parameters on every plan, including Free
- Recurring payments and PayPal, which Tally lacks
- Wider business integrations, including HubSpot and Salesforce on higher plans
- HIPAA and EU hosting available on Enterprise
Cons
- Free plan allows only 10 responses a month
- Every paid plan has a response cap, and partial responses count toward it
- Branding removal starts at Plus, and a full custom domain needs Enterprise
- Basic has one user; extra seats mean moving up a plan
Who should use it
Marketing teams, brands and agencies who care most about how a form looks and feels, run moderate response volumes, and want native links to tools like HubSpot. Larger organizations that need HIPAA, SSO or EU hosting through an enterprise contract also fit.
Who should skip it
Anyone collecting thousands of responses on a small budget, teams that need several editors on a low plan, and EU teams that want EU data storage without an enterprise contract.
Head-to-Head: Free Plan
This is the widest gap between the two.
Tally Free allows unlimited forms and unlimited submissions under its fair use policy. It includes payments through Stripe, e-signatures, file uploads up to 10 MB each, conditional logic, calculations, answer piping, hidden fields, webhooks and native integrations with Google Sheets, Notion, Airtable, Zapier and Make. You keep the Tally branding.
Typeform Free allows unlimited forms but only 10 responses a month across all of them. Logic, calculations, URL parameters, custom endings, embedding and exports are included. Payments, file uploads and partial responses are not. You keep the Typeform branding.
In practice, Typeform Free is a way to build and test a form before you pay. Tally Free is a plan many people can run on for good.
Winner: Tally.
Head-to-Head: Pricing at 100, 1,000 and 10,000 Responses a Month
Typeform prices by response volume. Tally does not. Here is what each costs at three common volumes, using plan card prices. Yearly totals are the price per month times 12, or the yearly price where the vendor states it.
With the vendor's branding allowed:
| Responses a month | Tally, billed monthly | Tally, billed yearly | Typeform, billed monthly | Typeform, billed yearly |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 100 | Free: $0 | Free: $0 | Basic: $39/month ($468/year) | Basic: $28/month ($336/year) |
| 1,000 | Free: $0 | Free: $0 | Plus: $79/month ($948/year) | Plus: $56/month ($672/year) |
| 10,000 | Free: $0 | Free: $0 | Business: $129/month ($1,548/year) | Business: $91/month ($1,092/year) |
Typeform Basic can be topped up to 750 responses a month at most, so 1,000 responses means Plus. 10,000 a month is well below the 50,000 a month Tally gives as an example of extensive usage.
Without the vendor's branding:
| Responses a month | Tally, billed monthly | Tally, billed yearly | Typeform, billed monthly | Typeform, billed yearly |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 100 | Pro: $29/month ($348/year) | Pro: $24/month ($290/year) | Plus: $79/month ($948/year) | Plus: $56/month ($672/year) |
| 1,000 | Pro: $29/month ($348/year) | Pro: $24/month ($290/year) | Plus: $79/month ($948/year) | Plus: $56/month ($672/year) |
| 10,000 | Pro: $29/month ($348/year) | Pro: $24/month ($290/year) | Business: $129/month ($1,548/year) | Business: $91/month ($1,092/year) |
The gaps add up:
- At 100 or 1,000 responses without branding, Tally Pro costs $382 less a year than Typeform Plus on yearly billing ($672 minus $290), and $600 less on monthly billing ($948 minus $348).
- At 10,000 responses without branding, Tally Pro costs $802 less a year than Typeform Business on yearly billing ($1,092 minus $290), and $1,200 less on monthly billing ($1,548 minus $348).
- Even comparing top self-serve plans, Tally Business ($890/year) costs $202 less than Typeform Business ($1,092/year) on yearly billing, and $480 less on monthly billing ($1,068 versus $1,548).
Yearly billing saves more on Typeform. Basic drops from $468 to $336 a year, a $132 saving. Tally Pro drops from $348 to $290, a $58 saving. If you choose Typeform, pay yearly once you are sure of your volume.
Two more points for Typeform buyers. Partial responses count toward your monthly cap. And because Typeform is testing prices, check the price shown in your own account before you budget.
Winner: Tally, at every volume.
Head-to-Head: Form Experience
Typeform shows one question per screen. This layout feels calm and focused, and it suits surveys, quizzes and lead forms where you want respondents to keep moving. The trade-off is that people cannot see the whole form at once or scan ahead.
Tally uses a document-style editor. You build a form by typing, and respondents see a page of questions, which can be split into several pages. This suits applications, registrations, order forms and any form where people want to see what is coming. Pro adds custom CSS for teams that want to restyle it.
Design control on Typeform grows with the plan: your logo on Basic, then brand kit and premium themes on Plus. Tally keeps a clean, minimal look and leaves deeper styling to CSS on Pro.
Tally supports forms in 45+ languages with right-to-left support on the free plan. On Typeform, multi-language forms start on Business and are also on Talent and Growth Flow.
Winner: Typeform for the conversational feel. Tally for long or scannable forms.
Head-to-Head: Logic, Calculations and Quizzes
Both tools include conditional logic and calculations on their free plans, which is unusual and good news either way.
Typeform's logic covers branching, calculations, scores, variables and recall of earlier answers. That makes it well suited to scored quizzes and outcome quizzes, where the ending depends on a total. Knowledge quiz mode arrives on Basic.
Tally offers conditional logic, calculations and answer piping on the free plan, so you can show or hide questions, compute totals and repeat earlier answers back to the respondent.
For a simple branching form or a price calculator, both are enough. For scored quizzes with several outcomes, Typeform's tooling is more developed.
Winner: Typeform, narrowly, for quizzes. A tie for everyday logic.
Head-to-Head: Hidden Fields and URL Parameters
Both include this on the free plan. Typeform calls the feature URL parameters (it used to be called Hidden Fields). Tally calls them hidden fields. In both, you pass values such as a user ID, a campaign source or an email address in the form link, and they are saved with the response without the respondent typing them.
This matters for anyone who tracks where responses come from or links form data back to a CRM or database. Neither tool charges for it.
Winner: tie.
Head-to-Head: Payments and Fees
Tally includes payments on the free plan through Stripe. Tally says it adds no fee on top of Stripe's own. Recurring payments are not supported, so Tally works for one-time sales, deposits, event tickets and donations, but not subscriptions.
Typeform includes payments from Basic upward. It supports Stripe for one-time and recurring payments and also has a PayPal integration. Typeform's help pages describe Stripe's own fees and do not list a Typeform fee. One catch: the payment question is not available on Typeform's EU data center.
If you sell a subscription or want PayPal as a choice for buyers, Typeform covers it and Tally does not. If you take one-time payments, Tally lets you do it for $0 a month.
Winner: Tally for one-time payments on a budget. Typeform for subscriptions and PayPal.
Head-to-Head: Integrations and API
Tally connects natively with Google Sheets, Notion, Airtable, Zapier and Make, and offers webhooks, all on the free plan. Pro adds Google Analytics and Meta Pixel. The API and the MCP server are free.
Typeform connects with Zapier, Google Sheets, Airtable, HubSpot, Slack, Mailchimp and Pipedrive, and has an API. Webhooks start on Basic. Salesforce starts on Business.
Typeform's list leans toward sales and marketing tools. Tally's leans toward workspace tools like Notion and Airtable. Through Zapier or Make, either can reach most apps.
Winner: Typeform for CRM and marketing stacks. Tally for Notion and Airtable users and for free webhooks.
Head-to-Head: Partial Submissions and Analytics
Partial submissions let you see answers from people who started a form but did not finish.
Tally includes partial submissions on Pro, along with visit and drop-off analytics.
Typeform includes one Partial Submit Point from Basic and up to three on Business and above. Capturing a partial response after every question needs Growth Flow, Growth Custom or Enterprise. Partial responses count toward your monthly response cap. Drop-off analysis and conversion tracking are on Business.
So Typeform offers partials on a cheaper plan, but with limits on where they are captured and a cost against your cap. Tally offers them at $24 a month billed yearly with no cap to use up, and adds drop-off analytics on the same plan, while Typeform keeps drop-off analysis for Business at $91 a month billed yearly.
Winner: Tally.
Head-to-Head: Branding and Custom Domains
Tally removes its branding and adds custom domains on Pro: $24 a month billed yearly or $29 monthly.
Typeform removes its branding on Plus: $56 a month billed yearly or $79 monthly. Plus also gives a custom subdomain. A full custom domain (up to 10) is an Enterprise feature, priced through sales.
If you want forms at an address like forms.yourcompany.com without Tally or Typeform logos, Tally gets you there for less than half the price of Typeform Plus, and Typeform needs an enterprise contract for the full custom domain.
Winner: Tally.
Head-to-Head: Team Seats
Tally Pro allows unlimited team members, with collaboration through workspaces and folders. Collaboration with workspaces and folders is listed as a Pro feature, not a free one.
Typeform includes 1 user on Basic, 3 on Plus, 5 on Business and Growth Flow, and custom seats on Enterprise (6 or more users).
A team of four that wants to share forms would need Typeform Business at $91 a month billed yearly. The same team on Tally Pro pays $24 a month billed yearly.
Winner: Tally.
Head-to-Head: Data Location, GDPR and Compliance
Tally is a Belgian company and stores all form data in Europe on every plan, including Free. For EU businesses, schools and nonprofits working under GDPR, that is a simple answer to a common question.
Typeform runs on AWS. Its EU data center is available only on Enterprise or Growth Custom, and only for new accounts. HIPAA support with a Business Associate Agreement is also limited to Enterprise and Growth Custom, and SSO is an Enterprise feature.
Tally's pricing and help pages we checked do not mention HIPAA, a BAA or SSO. If you handle protected health information in the US, Typeform Enterprise is an option and Tally is not one we can recommend for that use. Jotform, covered below, is another choice.
Winner: Tally for EU data storage. Typeform for HIPAA and SSO.
Head-to-Head: AI Features
Tally added Tally AI, a chat assistant inside the editor, for everyone on July 8, 2026. It also offers a free MCP server for connecting AI assistants to Tally.
Typeform includes AI form creation on all plans and offers an MCP connector for Claude and ChatGPT. Clarify with AI is on Growth Flow, Talent and Enterprise, and Smart Insights, an AI feature for responses, is on Growth Flow.
Both can draft a form from a prompt. Typeform has more AI features overall, but most of the extra ones sit on its higher-priced plans.
Winner: tie for building forms with AI. Typeform for AI analysis, if you pay for Growth Flow.
When to Choose Tally
- You collect more than a few hundred responses a month and do not want a bill that grows with them.
- You want payments, file uploads, signatures and logic on a free plan.
- You want to remove branding and use your own domain for $24 a month billed yearly.
- Several people need to edit forms, and you do not want to pay per seat or move to a bigger plan.
- You work in Notion or Airtable and want responses to land there directly.
- You are in the EU and want all form data stored in Europe without an enterprise deal.
When to Choose Typeform
- The one-question-at-a-time layout is part of your brand or clearly lifts your completion rates.
- You sell subscriptions or want PayPal as a payment option.
- Your team runs on HubSpot or Salesforce and wants native connections.
- You build scored or outcome quizzes and want scores and variables built in.
- You need HIPAA with a BAA, SSO or an EU data center, and you are ready for an Enterprise or Growth Custom contract.
- Your response volume is low and steady, so the response caps are not a problem.
Other Options Worth a Look
Tally and Typeform are not the only choices. These four beat both in specific situations.
Fillout
Fillout's free plan allows unlimited forms and seats with 1,000 responses a month, and includes logic, calculations, payments, hidden fields and pre-fill. Its strength is deep integration with Airtable and Notion, plus HubSpot and webhooks on Free. Paid plans are per account with unlimited seats: Starter $15/month billed yearly ($19 monthly) for 2,000 responses, Pro $40 yearly ($49 monthly) for 5,000 responses with branding removed, and Business $75 yearly ($89 monthly) for unlimited responses, partial submissions and a custom domain.
Beats both when: you want Airtable or Notion forms with more built-in workflow features, such as PDF generation and scheduling, on the free plan.
Jotform
Jotform uses a drag-and-drop builder and also offers Card Forms, a one-question-at-a-time mode. It supports 40+ payment gateways, including Stripe, PayPal and Square, and adds no transaction fee of its own. HIPAA features and a self-serve BAA are available on Gold ($99/month billed yearly, $129 monthly). The free Starter plan is tight: 5 forms and 100 submissions a month. All self-serve plans are single user; multiple users need Enterprise.
Beats both when: you need HIPAA without an enterprise contract, or payment gateways other than Stripe and PayPal.
Google Forms
Google Forms is free with any Google account, with unlimited forms and quizzes and responses that go straight into Google Sheets. Branching works by jumping to sections based on multiple choice or dropdown answers. There are no native payments and no native calculations. File uploads require respondents to sign in to a Google account. When an admin accepts Google Workspace's BAA, Google Forms is covered under it.
Beats both when: you need a quick internal survey or quiz, your team already lives in Google Workspace, and design does not matter.
Paperform
Paperform has a document-style, design-led editor similar in spirit to Tally. It supports Stripe, PayPal, Square and Braintree and charges no transaction fees, and paid plans add a subscriptions field. Pro costs $49/month billed yearly ($59 monthly) with unlimited submissions under fair use, unlimited users, calculations, hidden fields and partial submissions. A custom domain costs an extra $20 a month on Pro. The free plan allows 30 submissions a month. Paperform is not HIPAA compliant.
Beats both when: you want a document-style form that sells subscriptions or accepts several payment gateways.
How to Choose
Start with three numbers: how many responses you expect each month, how many people need to edit forms, and whether you need to remove the vendor's branding. Those three settle the price on Typeform and mostly settle it on Tally.
Then check the deal breakers. Do you need recurring payments or PayPal? Do you need HIPAA or SSO? Must form data stay in the EU? Each of these points clearly to one tool.
Last, look at the form itself. Build the same form in both and send it to a few people. The one-question layout and the document layout feel very different, and the right one depends on your audience and your form.
Red flags
- On Typeform, a response cap that sits just above your current volume. Growth or a busy campaign will push you onto a higher plan.
- On Typeform, counting on partial responses without noticing they use up your cap.
- On Tally, planning for subscriptions or PayPal. Neither is offered.
- On Tally, expecting a BAA or SSO. Neither is listed on the pages we checked.
- On either tool, budgeting from a price you saw once. Typeform is testing prices, and both offer different rates for monthly and yearly billing.
What to test before you commit
- Build your real form, with its logic and calculations, on each free plan.
- On Typeform, use trial mode to try paid features, knowing forms that use them cannot publish until you upgrade.
- Connect your main destination, such as Google Sheets, Notion, Airtable or HubSpot, and check the fields map the way you expect.
- If you take payments, run a test payment and confirm what Stripe charges.
- Pass a hidden field or URL parameter through a test link and check it reaches your data.
- Open the form on a phone. Long forms and one-question flows feel very different on a small screen.
The Verdict
Tally is the better choice for most people. Its free plan has no response cap and includes payments, file uploads and signatures, which Typeform keeps for paid plans. Tally Pro, at $24 a month billed yearly, removes branding, adds a custom domain and partial submissions, and allows unlimited team members. At 10,000 responses a month without branding, it costs $802 a year less than Typeform Business on yearly billing.
Typeform is the better choice when its one-question-at-a-time experience is worth paying for, when you need recurring payments or PayPal, when your stack runs on HubSpot or Salesforce, or when you need HIPAA, SSO or EU hosting through an Enterprise contract.
If neither fits, Fillout is the best free plan for Airtable and Notion users, Jotform is the self-serve route to HIPAA, Google Forms is the simplest free option, and Paperform is the document-style tool for subscriptions.
Conclusion
Tally and Typeform both make good-looking forms with real logic. The choice mostly comes down to how you want to pay. Typeform charges by responses and seats and gives you its signature conversational layout and a larger set of enterprise options. Tally gives you almost everything for free and charges a flat, low price for the professional finish.
Build your form in both free plans, count your expected responses, and check the three deal breakers: subscriptions, HIPAA and EU data. For most teams that test leads to Tally. For brands that live on the one-question experience or need enterprise compliance, Typeform is worth its price.
