Sales prospecting tools give your team the names, emails and phone numbers of the people you want to sell to, plus enough company data to decide who is worth contacting first. Most of them work the same way at a basic level: you search a B2B database with filters like job title, company size and location, then spend credits to reveal contact details and export them to your CRM or outreach tool. The differences are in how big and fresh the data is in your region, how much a phone number costs compared with an email, whether outreach is built in, and whether you can see a price before you talk to sales.
This guide compares seven tools using each vendor's own pricing pages, product pages, FAQs and compliance pages, checked in October 2026:
- All-in-one data plus outreach: Apollo.io
- Enterprise data platforms: ZoomInfo and Cognism
- Self-serve contact finders: Lusha, UpLead and Seamless.AI
- Enrichment workflow builder: Clay
What matters most when you buy one:
- Coverage where you sell. A database that is strong in the US can be thin in Germany or France. Ask for a sample of your own target accounts before you sign.
- Phone vs email. Phone numbers usually cost several times more credits than emails. If your team cold calls, price the plan in phone numbers, not in credits.
- How credits work. Check what one credit buys, whether unused credits roll over, and whether you pay again for a contact you already revealed.
- Public pricing vs a quote. Apollo, Lusha, UpLead and Clay publish prices. ZoomInfo, Cognism and Seamless.AI sell through sales calls.
- Compliance. If you contact people in the EU or UK, look for GDPR processes and Do Not Call screening, not just a badge.
All database sizes, accuracy figures and customer counts below are the vendors' own claims. We have not tested these tools ourselves; this is a comparison of what each vendor publishes.
One note before you start: Clearbit is no longer an option for new buyers. HubSpot bought Clearbit in December 2023, and Clearbit's help center now says it is "no longer offering new standalone Clearbit subscriptions." Its data lives on inside HubSpot as data enrichment (Breeze Intelligence), which needs a HubSpot account.

Apollo.io
Apollo.io combines a B2B contact database with the tools to act on it: email sequences, a dialer, meeting scheduling, call recording and deal management. Apollo says its database covers 240M contacts and 30M companies. For many small and mid-size teams it replaces both a data tool and a separate sales engagement tool, which is why it is our top pick.
Key features
- Contact and company search with emails and phone numbers
- Unlimited sequences on paid plans, plus a deliverability suite and email warmup
- Chrome, Gmail and Salesforce extensions on every plan, including Free
- Waterfall enrichment and CSV, CRM and API enrichment on paid plans

Pricing
Apollo prices per seat, and every seat on an account must be on the same plan.
- Free: $0 with 75 credits per seat per month, 2 sequences per team, 1 mailbox and 250 emails a day. Free accounts connect Gmail only.
- Basic: $49 per seat per month billed annually (30,000 credits per seat per year, granted upfront) or $65 billed monthly (2,500 credits per seat per month).
- Professional: $79 per seat per month billed annually (48,000 credits a year) or $99 billed monthly (4,000 a month). Adds A/Z testing, AI lead scoring, call recordings with AI insights, more mailboxes and unlimited daily sends (fair use).
- Organization: $119 per seat per month, billed annually only, with a 3-seat minimum and 72,000 credits per seat per year.
Basic and Professional have a 14-day trial with 75 credits. An email costs 1 credit and a phone number costs 8 credits. Credits do not roll over, and add-on credits renew every cycle until you remove them. Inbound and Advanced Dialer add-ons are priced per team on top.
Pros
- Real free plan with credits, sequences and the Chrome extension
- Public per-seat prices with monthly and annual billing
- Data, sequencing, dialer and deliverability tools in one platform
- Large credit allowances on paid plans
Cons
- Phone numbers cost 8 credits each
- Unused credits expire every billing cycle
- Basic is limited to 1 mailbox per user and 250 emails a day
- You cannot mix plan levels across one team
Who it is for
Startups, small businesses and mid-size sales teams that want one tool for finding contacts and running outbound email, especially in the US.
Who should skip it
Teams that mainly cold call (phone credits run down fast), teams that need deep European mobile coverage, and companies that already run a separate sales engagement platform and only want data.
ZoomInfo
ZoomInfo is the largest name in B2B data and sells a full go-to-market platform around it. ZoomInfo says it has 500M+ contacts and over 100M companies (its free trial page says 110M+), plus 135M+ verified phone numbers. Its newest seller product is GTM Workspace, launched in October 2025, which ZoomInfo says succeeds ZoomInfo Copilot. The company's Nasdaq ticker also changed from ZI to GTM in May 2025. Chorus, ZoomInfo's conversation intelligence product, and website chat are sold by the same vendor.
Key features
- Contact and company profiles with mobile numbers and business emails
- Buyer intent signals, website visitor identification and job change tracking
- AI account research, workflows and buying group features in the Copilot and GTM Workspace products
- CRM and sales engagement integrations, the ReachOut Chrome extension and a mobile app
- Marketing packages with audiences, ads and ABM features
Pricing
ZoomInfo publishes no prices. Its pricing page lists three sales packages (Professional, Copilot Advanced and Copilot Enterprise) and three marketing packages (Marketing Demand, ABM Lite and ABM Enterprise), all through sales. ZoomInfo says price depends on features, number of licenses and credit usage. A ZoomInfo-owned pricing guide (updated July 2026) says paid plans are billed annually, not monthly, and include a minimum number of seats.
Each export of a contact or company profile uses one credit, whether it comes from the platform, the Chrome extension or an integration. Integrations can carry a base cost and need a minimum bulk credit purchase, and Streaming Intent is a separate add-on.
ZoomInfo Lite is a permanent free plan for anyone with a business email. ZoomInfo's own guide lists 10 credits a month, or 25 if you join Community Edition, which requires sharing your Outlook, Google, Office or CRM contacts with ZoomInfo. There is also a free trial; ZoomInfo's FAQ says it is typically 7 days.
Pros
- One of the largest B2B databases, with phone numbers and intent data
- Website visitor, job change and intent signals in one place
- Wide integrations and a conversation intelligence product from the same vendor
- Broad compliance list (ISO 27001, ISO 27701, SOC 2 Type II, GDPR, CCPA)
Cons
- No public pricing and annual contracts only
- Seat minimums, integration costs and credit purchases add up
- The free Lite plan is very small
- Product names keep changing, which makes packages harder to compare
Who it is for
Mid-market and enterprise sales and marketing teams, mostly selling into North America, that need intent data and a platform their whole go-to-market team can share.
Who should skip it
Solo sellers and small teams that want to pay monthly, and anyone who needs to know the price before a sales call.
Lusha
Lusha is a self-serve contact finder built around a Chrome extension that shows emails and phone numbers on LinkedIn, in your CRM, in Gmail and on any website. Lusha says it has 515M+ verified contacts and 29M+ companies, with 132M contacts in the US and 26 buying signals refreshed weekly.
Key features
- Verified emails and phone numbers with confidence scores and last update dates

Pricing
- Free: $0 with 40 credits a month and 1 seat.
- Starter: $49.90/month billed monthly (400 credits a month) or $37.45/month billed yearly (4,800 credits a year). 1 seat included.
- Pro: $69.90/month billed monthly (600 credits a month) or $52.45/month billed yearly (7,200 credits a year). The plan lists 2 free seats and adds API, CSV enrichment, signals and webhooks.
- Premium: $399.90/month billed monthly (3,400 credits a month) or $299.95/month billed yearly (40,800 credits a year). Lists 5 free seats and adds team management and credit allocation.
- Scale: custom pricing with SSO and more intent topics.
An email costs 1 credit and a phone number costs 5 credits. On monthly plans unused credits roll over up to twice the monthly amount; on annual plans all credits arrive upfront and reset at the end of the year. Teams larger than 5 users need to contact sales. Third-party trackers show Lusha changed its prices and annual discounts several times in 2026, so check the pricing page on the day you buy.
Pros
- Real free plan and a low entry price
- Simple Chrome extension that works almost anywhere
- Monthly credits roll over up to 2x on monthly plans
- Long list of compliance certifications
Cons
- Phone numbers cost 5 credits each
- Small credit allowances on the lower plans
- Prices and discounts change often
- Larger teams have to go through sales
Who it is for
Individual reps, recruiters and small sales teams who prospect from LinkedIn and want contact details in a click without a contract.
Who should skip it
Teams that need large list exports every month, or that want sequences and a dialer as their main outreach tool.
Cognism
Cognism is a sales intelligence platform with a reputation for European data and phone-verified mobile numbers, which it calls Diamond Data. Cognism does not publish a headline database size; its FAQ says "hundreds of millions of company and contact profiles." On its data page it claims 90% coverage of Director-level and above contacts in Europe and the US, and a 3x better connect rate with phone-verified mobiles than the industry average.
Key features
- Phone-verified mobile numbers, with on-demand verification on Pro
- Data for EMEA, US and APAC, with a focus on Europe
- Do Not Call and TPS screening across the US, UK, Australia, France, Germany and other countries
- Bombora intent data (up to 12 topics) and hiring, funding and job change signals
- Chrome extension, CRM enrichment, MCP and API access
Pricing
Cognism publishes no prices. Sales prospecting comes in two packages, Standard and Pro, each listed with 5 seats included, and both lead to a sales call. Pro adds the premium mobile filter, on-demand mobile verification and intent data. CRM Enrichment is sold as an add-on or as a standalone product.
Each seat includes a credit allocation. One credit reveals one contact, there is no charge for viewing a contact you already revealed, and a credit is only used again if that contact changes jobs. The same credits work across the platform, Enrich and the API. Cognism offers a free data sample, but no free plan or self-serve trial.
Pros
- Phone-verified mobiles for teams that cold call
- Strong European coverage and DNC/TPS screening
- No second charge for contacts you already revealed
- ISO 27001, ISO 27701 and SOC 2 Type II certifications
Cons
- No public pricing
- No free plan or self-serve trial
- 5-seat packages are too big for solo users
- Intent data only on Pro
Who it is for
Teams selling into the UK and Europe, especially phone-first SDR teams that need compliant mobile numbers.
Who should skip it
Solo users and very small teams, and US-only teams on a tight budget who can get by with a self-serve tool.
Seamless.AI
Seamless.AI pairs a contact finder with outreach tools. The vendor says its AI searches the web in real time to find and verify contact details rather than only serving a static database. Its own pages give different database sizes: the homepage says 1.6B+ verified business emails and 448M+ phone numbers, while product pages say 2.2B+ verified contacts.
Key features
- Prospector search for verified emails, direct dials and mobile numbers
- Free Chrome extension for LinkedIn, company sites and search results
- CRM Enrich, Job Changes and Buyer Intent data
- Built-in emailing with AI writing, tracking and inbox warming, plus an AI dialer
- Autopilot automated list building, API and an MCP server
Pricing
Seamless.AI publishes no paid prices. Its pricing page is a contact-sales form that asks how many contacts you need per month and your company size, and mentions volume discounts, unlimited users on custom deals and no setup fees. The homepage FAQ says Seamless.AI is free for up to 50 credits; the site does not say whether those credits refresh.
Seamless.AI's "Credit Back Protection" refunds a credit automatically when an email is invalid. The site does not publish how many credits an email or phone lookup costs.
Pros
- Free plan to test the data before talking to sales
- Automatic credit refunds for invalid emails
- Free Chrome extension
- Data, emailing, dialing and AI list building in one platform
Cons
- No public pricing for any paid plan
- Free plan is only 50 credits
- Database size claims differ between the vendor's own pages
- Credit costs per lookup are not published
Who it is for
Sales teams that want a large contact database plus built-in emailing and calling, and are comfortable negotiating a custom quote.
Who should skip it
Buyers who want to compare list prices, and teams that already have a sales engagement tool and only need data.
UpLead
UpLead is a straightforward contact database with a simple rule: one credit unlocks one contact, including the email and the mobile direct dial when available. UpLead says it has 200M+ leads and backs its data with a 95%+ accuracy guarantee, refunding bounces and poor data. Emails are verified in real time when you export.
Key features
- Contact search with 50+ filters and real-time email verification on export
- Email and mobile direct dial with one credit per contact
- Chrome extension for LinkedIn and websites
- Technographics, buyer intent data and company news
- CRM and outreach integrations, plus API and two-way CRM sync on Professional
Pricing
- Trial: 7 days, $0, 5 credits.
- Essentials: $99/month billed monthly (170 credits a month) or $74/month billed annually (2,040 credits a year). 1 user. Extra credits $0.60 each.
- Plus: $199/month billed monthly (400 credits a month) or $149/month billed annually (4,800 credits a year). 1 user. Adds enrichment, technographics, advanced filters and suppression lists. Extra credits $0.50 each.
- Professional: annual only, custom price and credits, with intent data, full API, two-way CRM sync and team management.
Monthly plans have no contract. Credit rollover rules are not stated on the pricing page.
Pros
- Public, simple pricing: one credit covers email and mobile
- 95%+ accuracy guarantee with refunds for bounces
- Real-time email verification on every export
- Month-to-month plans with no contract
Cons
- No free plan, only a 5-credit trial
- Self-serve plans are single user
- Low credit counts for the price
- Intent data and API need the custom Professional plan
Who it is for
Small teams and founders who want predictable per-contact costs and both email and phone in one credit.
Who should skip it
Teams that need high monthly volume, multiple users on a self-serve plan, or built-in outreach. UpLead's pricing and homepage also do not state GDPR, CCPA or SOC 2 status, so EU-focused teams should ask.
Clay
Clay is different from the other six. It is not a single contact database but a workflow builder that buys data from 150+ providers and runs them in sequence (a "waterfall") until one returns a valid email or phone number. Clay adds an AI research agent, Claygent, and can push results to your CRM or send email through its own sequencer.
Key features
- Waterfall enrichment across 150+ data providers on every plan
- Claygent AI research agent for custom data points
- Signals such as job changes, promotions and company news
- CRM and data warehouse auto-sync on Growth and up
- Clay Sequencer for sending email, plus integrations with outreach tools
Pricing
Clay bills two meters: Actions (platform work) and Data Credits (data and AI bought from its marketplace). Every plan includes unlimited seats.
- Free: $0 with 500 actions and 100 data credits a month and 200 rows per table. No phone enrichment or CRM integrations.
- Launch: from $167/month billed annually or $185 billed monthly, with 15,000 actions and 2,500 data credits a month. Adds phone enrichment and signals.
- Growth: from $446/month billed annually or $495 billed monthly, with 40,000 actions and 6,000 data credits a month. Adds CRM auto-sync, data warehouse sync, API and webhooks.
- Enterprise: custom, with an annual commitment.
Clay does not charge for lookups that return nothing. Actions do not roll over, and top-ups on Launch and Growth cost 30% more.
Pros
- Waterfall enrichment across many providers raises coverage
- Unlimited seats on every plan
- Real free plan with monthly credits
- No charge when a lookup finds nothing
Cons
- Steep learning curve; it is a workflow builder, not a ready contact list
- Two-meter pricing is hard to forecast
- CRM sync only from Growth
- No stated accuracy guarantee
Who it is for
Growth, RevOps and GTM engineering teams that want to combine several data sources and AI research into custom enrichment workflows.
Who should skip it
Reps who just want to look up a phone number in one click, and teams without someone who has time to build and maintain tables.
Coverage by Region
Coverage is the factor most likely to decide which tool works for you, and it is the hardest to judge from a pricing page.
- US-heavy teams have the most choice. ZoomInfo, Apollo.io, Lusha, Seamless.AI and UpLead all market broad North American coverage. Lusha is the only one here that publishes a US-specific figure (132M US contacts, vendor claim).
- UK and European teams should start with Cognism. Its pages are built around European data, it claims 90% coverage of Director-level contacts in Europe and the US, and it screens numbers against Do Not Call lists in the UK, France, Germany and other countries. Kaspr, the LinkedIn extension that Cognism bought in 2022, is a lower-cost self-serve option from the same group.
- Global or niche markets are where Clay helps. Because it queries many providers in turn, it can fill gaps that any single database leaves.
Every vendor's coverage claim is its own. The only reliable test is to export a sample of your actual target accounts from two or three tools and compare match rates and bounce rates.
Phone Numbers vs Email
If your team cold calls, the cost of a phone number matters far more than the headline plan price.
| Tool | Email cost | Phone cost |
|---|---|---|
| Apollo.io | 1 credit | 8 credits |
| Lusha | 1 credit | 5 credits |
| UpLead | 1 credit per contact (email and mobile together) | Included in the same credit |
| Cognism | 1 credit per revealed contact | Included; Pro adds on-demand mobile verification |
| ZoomInfo | 1 credit per exported profile | Included in the profile |
| Seamless.AI | Not published | Not published |
| Clay | Varies by provider in the waterfall | Varies by provider; Launch plan and up |
Apollo.io and Lusha are cheap for email-first outreach but use credits quickly for phones. UpLead, Cognism and ZoomInfo charge per contact rather than per data point, which suits phone-first teams. Cognism is the only one here that sells phone verification as a feature, and it claims a 3x better connect rate on phone-verified mobiles.
Credits and What a Contact Really Costs
Credits make prices hard to compare, so here are worked examples using list prices only. Real costs depend on how often a lookup finds a result.
Apollo.io Basic, one seat, annual billing: $49 x 12 = $588 a year for 30,000 credits. That is up to 30,000 emails, or up to 3,750 phone numbers (30,000 / 8). Per phone number: $588 / 3,750 = about $0.16.
Apollo.io Basic, five seats: annual billing costs 5 x $49 x 12 = $2,940 a year with 150,000 pooled credits. Monthly billing costs 5 x $65 x 12 = $3,900 a year.
Lusha Starter, annual billing: $37.45 x 12 = $449.40 a year for 4,800 credits. That is up to 4,800 emails, or up to 960 phone numbers (4,800 / 5). Per phone number: $449.40 / 960 = about $0.47.
UpLead Essentials, annual billing: $74 x 12 = $888 a year for 2,040 credits, each covering email and mobile. Per contact: $888 / 2,040 = about $0.44. On Plus: $149 x 12 = $1,788 for 4,800 credits, about $0.37 per contact.
Clay Launch, annual billing: from $167 x 12 = $2,004 a year, with 30,000 data credits a year plus 15,000 actions a month. Clay's data credits start at $0.05 each, but how many a phone or email costs depends on which providers run in your waterfall.
ZoomInfo, Cognism and Seamless.AI do not publish prices, so you can only compare them on a quote.
Also check the rules around credits:
- Rollover: Apollo.io credits expire each billing cycle. Lusha monthly credits roll over up to 2x; annual credits reset each year. Clay data credits roll over within limits; actions do not.
- Refunds: Seamless.AI refunds credits for invalid emails, UpLead promises refunds for bounces, Clay does not charge for empty results, and Cognism does not charge again for contacts you already revealed.
Compliance and Data Privacy
Prospecting tools process personal data, so compliance matters most when you contact people in the EU, UK or California. Here is what each vendor states on its own site:
- ZoomInfo: GDPR and CCPA compliant, with ISO 27001, ISO 27701, SOC 2 Type II, TRUSTe GDPR and TRUSTe CCPA certifications.
- Cognism: GDPR (legitimate interest, with contacts notified within GDPR timeframes), CCPA (registered data broker), ISO 27001, ISO 27701 and SOC 2 Type II, plus DNC and TPS screening.
- Lusha: GDPR (certified by ePrivacyseal) and CCPA (validated by TrustArc), ISO 27001, ISO 27701, ISO 31700, ISO 42001 and SOC 2 Type II.
- Seamless.AI: GDPR, CCPA and SOC 2 Type II listed on its homepage.
- Clay: SOC 2 Type II, GDPR, CCPA, ISO 27001 and ISO 42001 listed on its pricing page.
- Apollo.io: the pricing page says "GDPR Compliant."
- UpLead: no GDPR, CCPA or SOC 2 statement on its homepage or pricing page; it links a privacy policy and an opt-out.
A certification covers the vendor's security, not how you use the data. You still need a lawful basis for contacting people, and calling teams should screen against national Do Not Call lists.
How to Choose
- You want one tool for data and outbound email, on a budget: Apollo.io. Start on the free plan, then move to Basic or Professional.
- You are an enterprise team that needs intent data and a shared GTM platform: ZoomInfo. Get a quote and compare it against Apollo.io's Organization plan.
- You sell into the UK or Europe and your SDRs call: Cognism, for phone-verified mobiles and DNC screening.
- You prospect from LinkedIn and want a quick self-serve tool: Lusha.
- You want predictable per-contact pricing with email and phone together: UpLead.
- You want data plus built-in emailing and dialing, and you are fine negotiating: Seamless.AI.
- You have a RevOps or GTM engineer and want to combine many sources: Clay, often alongside one of the others.
Before you sign an annual contract, export the same 100 target contacts from two shortlisted tools and compare how many emails bounce and how many phone numbers connect.
Conclusion
Apollo.io is the best sales prospecting tool for most small and mid-size teams in 2026. It has a usable free plan, public per-seat pricing, and data, sequences and a dialer in one place. Its main weakness is phone data, at 8 credits per number.
ZoomInfo remains the default for large teams that want the deepest US data and intent signals, if you accept annual contracts and quote-based pricing. Cognism is the strongest choice for European and phone-first teams. Lusha and UpLead are simple self-serve options with public prices, Seamless.AI suits teams that want outreach bundled in, and Clay is the tool to reach for when no single database covers your market.
