Why Look for Lever Alternatives in 2026

Lever puts an applicant tracking system (ATS) and a recruiting CRM in one platform, so nurture campaigns, pipeline stages and interview feedback live in one place. It also includes unlimited AI interview transcripts and summaries in its core platform. So why do recruiting teams look elsewhere? Lever's own pricing and product pages point to these reasons.

1. You cannot see a price before you talk to sales

Lever's pricing page says pricing is "available upon request" and shows one offering, the AI-Powered Hiring Platform, with no named tiers. It does not say whether billing is per seat, per employee or per hire, so you cannot compare costs before a demo.

2. Useful features are paid add-ons

Every Lever plan includes the core ATS, CRM, reporting and key integrations. Three things cost extra, with no prices listed: Candidate Insights (skills, fit, assessment and reference data in profiles), AI Screening by VONQ (pre-screening on your career site) and Onboarding (new-hire workflows and document collection).

3. No free trial or self-serve option

Lever mentions no free plan and no free trial, only a demo and a quote.

4. Lever is now part of Employ

Lever is sold as "Lever by Employ," and Employ Inc. also sells JazzHR and Jobvite. We saw no sign that Lever is being retired, but at renewal it is fair to ask about the roadmap and contract terms.

5. You want stronger sourcing, analytics or simpler pricing

Some teams want outbound sourcing with email finding, deeper analytics, or just a published monthly price.

We compare six alternatives: Greenhouse, Ashby, Workable, Tellent Recruitee, Breezy HR and Gem, plus Lever itself so you can see what you would give up.

Lever review

Lever is an ATS and recruiting CRM in one platform, now sold as "Lever by Employ." It suits teams that do a lot of candidate nurturing and want that work in the same system as their open roles.

Key features

  • ATS and CRM together, with nurture and re-engagement campaigns
  • Unlimited AI interview transcripts and summaries, with auto-generated scorecards
  • AI candidate screening and prioritization, plus fraud prevention signals
  • Free posting to LinkedIn and Indeed, and sponsored postings through the Job Board Marketplace
  • Career Site Builder with three templates and custom HTML, CSS and JavaScript
  • Dashboards for recruiter activity, pipeline by stage and team performance; 300+ integrations

Pricing

  • AI-Powered Hiring Platform: custom quote only. No named tiers and no published billing basis.
  • Included in every plan: core ATS, CRM, reporting and analytics, and key integrations.
  • Paid add-ons (no prices listed): Candidate Insights, AI Screening by VONQ, Onboarding.
  • Free plan or trial: none mentioned. Demo and quote only.

Pros

  • ATS and CRM in one platform, so nurture campaigns and pipeline live together
  • Unlimited AI interview transcripts and summaries included in the core platform
  • 300+ integrations across HRIS, background checks, assessments, e-signature and calendars

Cons

  • No published prices; every plan needs a sales quote
  • Onboarding, Candidate Insights and VONQ AI screening cost extra
  • No free trial or self-serve option
  • The Indeed integration needs an Indeed Employer account, and Lever's help center says the first sync can take up to 30 business days

Who should use it

Mid-size and larger teams that want ATS and CRM in one system, value included AI interview notes, and are fine buying through sales.

Who should skip it

Small teams that want a public price or a free trial.

Greenhouse review

Greenhouse is built around structured hiring. Like Lever it is quote-only, so teams move to it for interview structure and free job boards, not price.

Key features

  • Structured interview kits and scorecards on every plan
  • AI Notetaker that transcribes and summarizes interviews and maps notes to scorecard questions (all plans)
  • Free job posts to built-in boards such as LinkedIn, Indeed, ZipRecruiter and Monster
  • Real Talent fraud detection and identity verification; Voice AI first-round interviewing
  • AI-powered Chart Builder, with a BI Connector on Plus and Pro

Pricing

Greenhouse says its pricing "is customized based on your company's hiring needs." There are three plans, each building on the last:

  • Core (custom quote): Sourcing & CRM, structured interview kits and scorecards, AI Notetaker, scheduling, reporting and analytics, SSO, Talent Matching.
  • Plus (custom quote): adds AI-powered report filters, BI Connector, Greenhouse Sourcing Automation, texting, and fraud & spam detection.
  • Pro (custom quote): adds unlimited CRM events, enterprise-level data configuration and security, audit log, and developer sandbox & sync.

All plans list AI suggestions for scorecards, interview questions and job posts. No free plan or trial is mentioned.

Pros

  • Interview kits, scorecards, AI Notetaker, scheduling and SSO included from the Core plan
  • Free job posts to a long list of built-in boards on every tier
  • Hundreds of pre-built integrations plus an open API and MCP access

Cons

  • Quote-only pricing with no public numbers, the same as Lever
  • Texting and fraud & spam detection require the Plus plan
  • Audit log and developer sandbox locked to the top Pro plan

Who should use it

Mid-size to enterprise companies that run structured hiring and need deep integrations, with room to grow into audit and security features.

Who should skip it

Teams leaving Lever mainly over opaque pricing, since Greenhouse is also quote-only.

Ashby review

Ashby is an all-in-one recruiting platform: ATS, CRM and sourcing, scheduling and analytics. It stands out on this list for publishing real prices for companies up to 100 employees, priced by company size rather than per seat.

Key features

  • ATS, CRM and sourcing, scheduling and analytics in one platform
  • Multi-step sourcing sequences across email and LinkedIn; 200 email lookups included
  • Direct booking links and visual scheduling on all plans; AI Auto-Scheduler on Enterprise or via the Advanced Scheduling add-on
  • Structured interview plans, feedback blinding, AI feedback summaries and AI-assisted application review
  • Offers with approval workflow and native e-signature
  • Indeed and Glassdoor posting on by default; LinkedIn free basic jobs after 30 days as a paying ATS customer (LinkedIn's rule)

Pricing

All-In-One Foundations (up to 100 employees), monthly billing:

Company sizeMonthly billingAnnual billing (10% off)
1-10 employees$300/month$270/month
11-25 employees$400/month$360/month
26-50 employees$500/month$450/month
51-75 employees$700/month$630/month
76-100 employees$900/month$810/month

Monthly plans are paid by credit card. Ashby says pricing is reassessed annually.

  • All-In-One Plus (101-1,000 employees): custom, based on company size, usage and commitment.
  • All-In-One Enterprise (1,000+ employees): custom.
  • Ashby Analytics (for companies of 100+ employees on an existing Greenhouse or Lever ATS): usage-based.

Foundations includes 1,500 AI credits and 1,000 outbound candidate SMS per month (extra SMS $90 per 1,000). SSO costs $100/month on Foundations and is included on Plus and Enterprise. Paid add-ons include AI Notetaker (all plans), Advanced Scheduling (Plus), Candidate Data Enrichment and extra email lookups. Integrations are free. No free plan or trial is mentioned.

Pros

  • Published prices for companies up to 100 employees, priced by headcount rather than seats
  • ATS, CRM, scheduling and analytics in one platform
  • No charge for integrations; open API

Cons

  • AI Notetaker is an extra cost on all plans (Lever includes AI transcripts)
  • SSO costs $100/month on Foundations
  • Custom pricing once a company passes 100 employees
  • Foundations limits: 1 offer template, 1 candidate survey, no SCIM, no sandbox and no custom permission roles

Who should use it

Startups and scaleups that want ATS, CRM, scheduling and analytics in one tool at a visible price. Lever customers with 100+ employees can also add Ashby Analytics without switching ATS.

Who should skip it

Companies over 100 employees wanting public prices, and teams that want AI interview notes without paying extra.

Workable review

Workable bundles an ATS with sourcing, AI tools and basic HR features (HRIS, onboarding, time off, time tracking, e-signatures and payroll preparation) in every plan. Prices are published and set by company size.

Key features

  • One submission to 200+ free and premium job boards; no-code careers page in 9 languages
  • Sourcing from 400m+ candidate profiles with AI recommendations and LinkedIn RSC integration
  • Talent pools, with AI that resurfaces past candidates
  • Candidate self-scheduling with two-way Google and Outlook sync
  • Interview kits, scorecards, anonymized screening and AI screening summaries
  • Workable Agent, an AI add-on that sources, screens and qualifies candidates on credits

Pricing

Prices below are for the 1-20 employee tier. Workable has nine size tiers (1-20 up to 1000+), and other tiers only show when you select them.

  • Standard: $299/month billed annually ($3,588/year) or $360/month billed monthly ($4,320/year).
  • Premier: $599/month, annual only ($7,188/year).
  • Enterprise: $719/month, annual only ($8,628/year).

Standard add-ons: Texting $89/month, Video interviews $109/month, Assessments $59/month, Performance & Engagement $39/month. Premier and Enterprise include Texting, Video interviews, Assessments, Referrals and Performance & Engagement.

Workable Agent is an add-on on all plans. Paid accounts get 3,000 free AI credits; packs cost $600 for 5,000, $1,000 for 10,000 or $4,750 for 50,000. Credits expire after one year and are non-refundable.

There is no free plan. A 15-day free trial gives full Standard features with no credit card, but excludes Workable Agent.

Pros

  • Recruiting and HR modules bundled in every plan
  • Large reach: 200+ job boards and a 400m+ profile sourcing database
  • Transparent per-tier pricing and AI credit pack prices on the pricing page

Cons

  • No free plan; entry price is $299/month billed annually ($360 month to month) for the smallest tier
  • Texting, video interviews and assessments cost extra on Standard
  • AI agent usage is metered by credits that expire after a year
  • Premier and Enterprise are annual billing only

Who should use it

Small and mid-sized companies that want sourcing and AI tools plus basic HR in one subscription, and like seeing prices before a sales call.

Who should skip it

Teams that already have an HRIS and only want recruiting, since every plan bundles HR modules.

Tellent Recruitee review

Recruitee is now sold as Tellent Recruitee. It focuses on collaborative hiring, wide job board reach and multi-language careers sites. It fits small and mid-sized hiring teams, often in Europe.

Key features

  • Multi-posting to 2,900+ free and paid job boards; LinkedIn Recruiter System Connect
  • CareersHub careers site: single page on Start, multi-page, multi-language and branded URL on Advance and up
  • AI Screening and Matching Assistants (limits by plan), AI job descriptions and post translation
  • Talent pools and Event Scheduler self-booking links
  • Evaluation forms and offer letter templates; 180+ integrations and a mobile app

Pricing

The pricing page shows empty price fields and "Get a demo" buttons today, so we list it as contact vendor. Price depends on plan, company size and billing period. Annual payment gives a 20% discount. Monthly payment is possible, but contracts have a minimum one-year commitment.

  • Start (contact vendor): up to 5 active job posts, single-page CareersHub, multi-posting, pipeline automation, AI email and feedback writing.
  • Advance (contact vendor): unlimited job posts, multi-page and multi-language CareersHub, ReferralsHub, AI Screening Assistant (100 credits/month), AI Matching Assistant (3 searches/month).
  • Optimize (contact vendor): adds SSO, onboarding support, a dedicated CSM, the full Screening Assistant, 65 matching searches/month and conditional workflow automations.

Add-ons include SSO (below Optimize), Texting, Journeys, WhatsApp Hiring and Tellent HR HRIS. No free plan. An 18-day free trial on the Advance plan needs no credit card and does not auto-convert.

Pros

  • Unlimited users and very wide job board reach (2,900+ boards)
  • Built-in AI screening and candidate matching from Advance
  • 18-day trial without a credit card

Cons

  • No public prices; one-year minimum commitment
  • Start plan is capped at 5 active job posts
  • SSO, texting and onboarding (Journeys) are add-ons on lower plans

Who should use it

Small and mid-sized teams hiring across countries and languages that want unlimited users and broad job board reach.

Who should skip it

Teams leaving Lever to get public prices, since Recruitee does not show them today. Also skip the Start plan if you usually have more than five roles open.

Breezy HR review

Breezy HR is the cheapest option here, with a free-forever plan and flat paid plans not priced per user.

Key features

  • Posting to 50+ job sites and a branded career site on all plans, including free
  • Automations, questionnaires, self-scheduling and video interviews from Startup
  • Scorecards and interview guides from Growth
  • Offer management, approvals, HRIS integrations and nurture campaigns from Business
  • Breezy Intelligence AI features billed on credits

Pricing

Annual pricing includes 2 months free.

  • Bootstrap: free forever. 1 active position or pool, unlimited users, career site, 50+ job boards.
  • Startup: $157/month billed annually or $189/month billed monthly. Unlimited positions, automations, self-scheduling, video interviews, EEOC/OFCCP reporting.
  • Growth: $273/month annually or $329/month monthly. Adds scorecards, interview guides, reference checks, referrals and e-signatures.
  • Business: $439/month annually or $529/month monthly. Adds HRIS and assessment integrations, offer approvals, nurture campaigns and custom roles.
  • Custom Pro: contact sales. Adds a dedicated account manager and optional API access, advanced reporting and data export/import.

Add-ons: Breezy Intelligence credits from $30 per 100,000, SMS texting credits from $41/month, Onboard from $49/month, and Perform and Expert Training (no price listed). The 14-day free trial has full features, needs no credit card and includes 100,000 Breezy Intelligence credits that never expire.

Pros

  • Free plan with unlimited users and 50+ job board distribution
  • Flat monthly pricing, not per user, with published prices
  • 14-day trial with 100,000 AI credits that never expire

Cons

  • Free plan allows only one active position at a time
  • Scorecards need Growth and HRIS integrations need Business
  • Texting, AI credits and onboarding cost extra

Who should use it

Small businesses that want a free start or a flat, published price, with unlimited users and the option to add scorecards and HR integrations later.

Who should skip it

Teams that rely on Lever's CRM and sourcing depth. Breezy offers nurture campaigns only on Business, and its plans focus on posting and pipelines rather than outbound sourcing.

Gem review

Gem is known for sourcing and CRM, but it now sells a full ATS too. You can use it in two ways: on top of an existing ATS such as Lever, Greenhouse, Workday or iCIMS, or as an all-in-one system with its own built-in ATS.

Key features

  • Built-in ATS (All-in-One) with requisitions, scorecards, offers, e-signature and approvals
  • AI Sourcing Agent across 800M+ profiles; talent CRM with nurture sequences and unlimited email-finding
  • AI agents for App Review, Talent Rediscovery and Fraud Detection
  • Self-scheduling, interviewer load balancing, and multi-day and panel scheduling
  • Analytics with pipeline dashboards, forecasting, industry benchmarks and DEI insights

Pricing

Gem has two main offers, both priced "based on your company's FTE count" through sales:

  • Gem + Your ATS (custom quote): sits on top of an existing ATS. AI sourcing across 800M+ profiles, AI ranking, multi-channel outreach sequences and unlimited email-finding. Scheduling, the AI Fraud Detection Agent and Analytics are add-ons.
  • Gem All-in-One (custom quote): sourcing and CRM, built-in ATS, scheduling and analytics.

The Gem Startup Program (AI Sourcing and CRM, Analytics, Scheduling and ATS) has published monthly prices by company size:

Company sizeMonthly billing
1-10 FTE$300/month
11-30 FTE$400/month
31-50 FTE$500/month
51-75 FTE$700/month
76-100 FTE$900/month

The 1-10 and 11-30 FTE tiers check out online; 31-100 FTE go to sales. Gem's page also shows yearly prices but does not explain them, so we quote monthly prices only. Under 30 employees, All-in-One is free for six months, then 50% off on a paid plan; 30-100 employees get reduced rates. Standard and AI-Powered seat types are listed without prices. No permanent free plan.

Pros

  • Can run on top of an existing ATS (Greenhouse, Lever, Workday, iCIMS) or replace it
  • Published startup prices, with six months free for companies under 30 employees
  • Migration from Greenhouse or Lever in as little as 24 hours, per Gem

Cons

  • Custom pricing for companies over 100 FTE
  • Scheduling, analytics and fraud detection cost extra when used with your own ATS
  • Seat types listed without public seat prices

Who should use it

Sourcing-heavy teams. Gem + Your ATS lets you keep Lever and add outbound; All-in-One or the Startup Program replaces Lever entirely.

Who should skip it

Companies over 100 FTE looking for public prices, and teams that mostly hire from inbound applicants and do little outbound sourcing.

Head-to-Head Comparison

Pricing transparency

  • Published prices: Ashby (up to 100 employees), Workable (per size tier), Breezy HR (all plans except Custom Pro) and Gem's Startup Program (up to 100 FTE).
  • Quote only: Lever, Greenhouse and Tellent Recruitee (its pricing page shows no prices today).
  • Free plan: only Breezy HR (Bootstrap, one active position).
  • Free trials: Breezy HR (14 days), Workable (15 days), Tellent Recruitee (18 days). Gem: six months free under 30 employees.

ATS plus CRM and sourcing

Lever's strength is ATS and CRM in one product. Gem goes furthest on sourcing, with AI sourcing across 800M+ profiles and unlimited email-finding. Ashby includes CRM and email and LinkedIn sequences on every plan. Greenhouse has Sourcing & CRM on Core and Sourcing Automation from Plus. Workable has a 400m+ profile database and talent pools. Tellent Recruitee has talent pools and plan-limited AI matching, and Breezy HR offers nurture campaigns only on Business.

Analytics and reporting

Lever includes reporting and analytics in every plan. Gem lists pipeline dashboards, forecasting, industry benchmarks and DEI insights. Ashby builds analytics into its platform and sells Ashby Analytics on its own for 100+ employee companies that stay on Lever or Greenhouse. Greenhouse adds a BI Connector from Plus.

Interviews, scheduling and AI notes

Lever includes unlimited AI interview transcripts and summaries, and Greenhouse includes an AI Notetaker on all plans. Ashby charges extra for its AI Notetaker. Candidate self-scheduling is built into Workable, Gem, Ashby (booking links), Recruitee (Event Scheduler) and Breezy HR (from Startup); Greenhouse includes scheduling on Core.

Job board reach

Tellent Recruitee leads with 2,900+ free and paid boards, then Workable (200+), Gem (its pricing page mentions 100+ job boards) and Breezy HR (50+, even on the free plan). Greenhouse, Ashby and Lever post free to major boards such as LinkedIn and Indeed.

Worked cost example: a 50-employee company

Yearly cost for a 50-employee company at published prices. Lever, Greenhouse and Tellent Recruitee publish no prices, so they are left out. Workable is left out too: its page shows only the 1-20 employee tier by default, and we did not confirm the 21-50 price.

Ashby (All-In-One Foundations, 26-50 employees)

  • Monthly billing: $500 x 12 = $6,000/year
  • Annual billing (10% off): $450 x 12 = $5,400/year
  • If you need SSO, add $100/month: $100 x 12 = $1,200/year (Ashby does not say whether the annual discount applies to SSO)

Gem (Startup Program, 31-50 FTE)

  • Monthly billing: $500 x 12 = $6,000/year
  • This tier goes through sales. Gem also mentions reduced rates for 30-100 employees without saying how much, so confirm the final price. The six-month free offer applies only under 30 employees.

Breezy HR (flat plan price, not per user)

  • Startup: $157 x 12 = $1,884/year billed annually, or $189 x 12 = $2,268/year billed monthly
  • Growth (adds scorecards): $273 x 12 = $3,276/year billed annually, or $329 x 12 = $3,948/year billed monthly
  • Business (adds HRIS integrations and nurture campaigns): $439 x 12 = $5,268/year billed annually, or $529 x 12 = $6,348/year billed monthly

At this size Breezy HR is the cheapest published option. Ashby and Gem both cost $6,000/year on monthly billing but include CRM, sourcing, scheduling and analytics. Add-ons such as Ashby's AI Notetaker and Breezy's texting are not included.

Switching from Lever

Gem says migration from Greenhouse or Lever can take as little as 24 hours, and it can also run on top of Lever, so you can add sourcing first and move the ATS later. Ashby Analytics also works on top of Lever (100+ employees). For other tools, ask in the demo how they import candidates and notes from Lever.

How to Choose: Decision Framework

Questions to ask first

  1. Is price visibility a must? If yes, shortlist Ashby, Workable, Breezy HR and Gem's Startup Program. Drop Greenhouse and Recruitee.
  2. How big are you? Ashby and Gem publish prices only up to 100 employees.
  3. How much outbound sourcing do you do? Heavy sourcing points to Gem or Ashby. Mostly inbound hiring points to Breezy HR or Recruitee.
  4. Do you need HR features too? Workable bundles HRIS, onboarding and time off.
  5. Do you want to replace Lever or add to it? Gem + Your ATS and Ashby Analytics both work alongside Lever.

Red flags

  • A quote that bundles add-ons without listing what each one costs.
  • Annual-only billing on the plan you actually need (Workable Premier and Enterprise).
  • A minimum one-year contract even when paying monthly (Tellent Recruitee).
  • Job post caps that are lower than your usual number of open roles (Recruitee Start: 5 active job posts; Breezy HR Bootstrap: 1).

What to test in a demo or trial

  • Import a sample of Lever candidates with notes and see what comes across.
  • Build one real interview plan with a scorecard and send it to a hiring manager.
  • Run a nurture or sourcing sequence to a small test list.
  • Build the report your leadership asks for most.
  • Ask which features in the demo are add-ons, and get their prices in writing.

The Verdict: Final Recommendations

1. Ashby: best overall Lever alternative up to 100 employees

ATS, CRM, sourcing, scheduling and analytics in one platform, with published prices from $300/month (1-10 employees, monthly) and 10% off annual plans.

2. Gem: best for sourcing-heavy teams

AI sourcing across 800M+ profiles and unlimited email-finding, on top of Lever or with Gem's own ATS. Startup Program from $300/month on monthly billing.

3. Greenhouse: best for structured hiring at scale

Interview kits, scorecards, AI Notetaker and SSO from the Core plan. Quote-only, like Lever.

4. Workable: best for ATS plus HR in one bill

Recruiting plus HRIS, onboarding and time off from $299/month billed annually (1-20 employees), with a 15-day trial.

5. Breezy HR: best free and budget option

A free plan and the lowest published paid price here, $157/month billed annually, with unlimited users.

6. Tellent Recruitee: best for multi-language hiring

2,900+ job boards and multi-language careers sites, with an 18-day trial. No published prices and a one-year minimum term.

7. Lever: stay if ATS and CRM together is worth a quote

Unlimited AI interview transcripts and 300+ integrations. If the quote fits, there is no strong reason to move.

Conclusion

Most teams leave Lever to see a price, get deeper sourcing or get better analytics. Ashby is the strongest all-round switch up to 100 employees. Gem suits outbound-heavy teams and can even sit on top of Lever. Breezy HR is the low-cost choice, and Greenhouse is the structured-hiring choice if a quote is fine. Use the trials, get add-on prices in writing, and test a Lever data import before you sign.

Frequently asked questions

For companies with up to 100 employees, Ashby is the closest all-in-one replacement: ATS, CRM, sourcing, scheduling and analytics with published prices from $300/month. Sourcing-heavy teams should look at Gem, and teams that want structured hiring at scale should look at Greenhouse.
