Why Look for Workable Alternatives in 2026
Workable is a solid applicant tracking system with 200+ job boards, a 400m+ profile sourcing database, self-scheduling and interview kits. Every plan also bundles HR modules. Small and mid-size companies look elsewhere mostly because of how the bill is built.
The price follows your headcount. Workable prices by company size across nine tiers, from 1-20 employees up to 1000+. At the smallest tier (1-20 employees), Standard costs $299/month billed annually ($3,588/year) or $360/month billed monthly ($4,320/year). Premier is $599/month and Enterprise is $719/month, both annual only. Other tiers are shown only when selected, so we quote the 1-20 tier. The price changes as you grow, even if your hiring volume does not.
There is no free plan. You get a 15-day free trial of Standard with no credit card. After that, $299/month (billed annually) is the floor.
Useful features are paid add-ons on Standard. Texting is $89/month, video interviews $109/month, assessments $59/month and Performance & Engagement $39/month. Premier includes those, plus referrals, but costs about twice as much as Standard ($599 vs $299 a month) and must be paid yearly.
AI is metered. The Workable Agent, which sources, screens and qualifies candidates, is an add-on on all plans and runs on AI credits. Every paid account gets 3,000 free credits. After that, packs cost $600 for 5,000 credits, $1,000 for 10,000 and $4,750 for 50,000. Credits expire one year after purchase and are non-refundable. The free trial does not include the Agent.
You may not need the HR bundle. If you already run payroll and HR in another system, the HRIS, time off and payroll preparation modules in every Workable plan overlap with tools you already pay for.
The alternatives below fall into three groups:
- Cheaper: Breezy HR (free plan, then from $157/month billed annually) and JazzHR (from $1,000/year).
- More structured: Greenhouse (structured interview kits and scorecards on every plan) and Lever (ATS and candidate CRM in one platform).
- Employer brand and reach: Teamtailor (career sites first) and Tellent Recruitee (2,900+ job boards and multi-language careers sites).
Two ownership notes before you shortlist. JazzHR and Lever are both products of Employ Inc., so they are siblings, not rival companies. Recruitee is now sold as Tellent Recruitee by Tellent.
Workable review
Workable is the tool you are comparing against, so it is worth being clear about what you would give up. It combines a full ATS with sourcing, AI screening and a set of HR modules, all priced by company size.

- One submission posts to 200+ free and premium job boards; no-code careers page in 9 languages.
- Sourcing from 400m+ candidate profiles, plus a Chrome LinkedIn extension.

- Interview kits and scorecards, anonymized screening and AI screening summaries with match scores.

Pricing
Prices below are for the 1-20 employee tier. Other tiers cost more and are shown only when selected on the pricing page.
- Standard: $299/month billed annually ($3,588/year) or $360/month billed monthly ($4,320/year).
- Premier: $599/month, annual only ($7,188/year). Includes texting, video interviews, assessments, referrals and Performance & Engagement.
- Enterprise: $719/month, annual only ($8,628/year). Includes the same add-ons as Premier.
- Standard add-ons: Texting $89/month, Video interviews $109/month, Assessments $59/month, Performance & Engagement $39/month.
- Workable Agent (AI): add-on on all plans. 3,000 free credits per paid account, then 5,000 credits for $600 ($0.12/credit), 10,000 for $1,000 ($0.10/credit) or 50,000 for $4,750 ($0.095/credit). Credits expire after one year and are non-refundable.
- Free trial: 15 days of Standard, no credit card, without the Workable Agent. No free plan.
Pros
- Recruiting and HR modules in every plan.
- Wide reach: 200+ job boards and 400m+ sourcing profiles.
- Published prices for each tier and AI credit pack.
Cons
- No free plan; $299/month billed annually at the smallest size.
- Texting, video interviews and assessments cost extra on Standard.
- AI agent credits expire after a year.
Who should use it
Small and mid-size companies that want an ATS plus basic HR in one subscription, and that will use the HRIS, onboarding and time off modules. If you would otherwise buy a separate HR tool, the bundle is a real part of Workable's value.
Who should skip it
Teams that already have an HR system and only need applicant tracking, and anyone who needs texting and video interviews without paying for Premier or stacking add-ons.
Greenhouse review
Greenhouse is built around structured hiring, with higher plans adding data, security and audit features. It suits companies that want more process than Workable, not companies trying to spend less.
Key features
- Structured interview kits, scorecards and scheduling on the Core plan.
- AI Notetaker that records, transcribes and summarizes interviews and maps notes to scorecard questions, on all plans.
- Free job posts to built-in boards on every tier, including LinkedIn, Indeed, ZipRecruiter, Monster, Appcast, Blind and Levels.fyi.
- Greenhouse Real Talent fraud detection and identity verification, plus Voice AI first-round interviewing.
- Reporting with an AI-powered Chart Builder; a Business Intelligence Connector on Plus and Pro.
Pricing
Greenhouse does not publish prices. Its pricing page says pricing is "customized based on your company's hiring needs." There are three plans, each building on the last:
- Core: Sourcing & CRM, structured interview kits and scorecards, AI Notetaker, scheduling, reporting and analytics, SSO, Talent Matching.
- Plus: adds AI-powered report filters, the BI Connector, Greenhouse Sourcing Automation, texting, and fraud & spam detection.
- Pro: adds unlimited CRM events, enterprise-level data configuration and security, an audit log, and a developer sandbox and sync.
The billing basis is not stated, and no free plan or trial is mentioned.
Pros
- Interview kits, scorecards, AI Notetaker, scheduling and SSO are included from Core.
- Built-in fraud detection and identity verification (Real Talent).
- Hundreds of pre-built integrations, an open API and MCP access.
Cons
- Quote-only pricing, so you cannot compare cost before talking to sales.
- Texting and fraud & spam detection require Plus.
- Audit log and developer sandbox are locked to Pro.
Who should use it
Mid-size and larger companies whose hiring managers must all interview the same way, and teams needing deep integrations or audit controls.
Who should skip it
A 15-person company leaving Workable because of cost. Greenhouse gives you no published number to compare, and its plans do not list HR modules like the ones Workable bundles.
Lever review
Lever, sold as "Lever by Employ," combines an ATS and a recruiting CRM in one platform. That suits teams that nurture candidates over months, not just process applicants. Employ also owns JazzHR and Jobvite.

- Unlimited AI interview transcripts and summaries in the core platform.
- 300+ integrations across HRIS, background checks, assessments, e-signature and calendars.
Cons
- No published prices; every plan needs a sales quote.
- Onboarding, Candidate Insights and VONQ AI screening cost extra.
- No free trial or self-serve option.
Who should use it
Mid-size and larger teams that source and re-engage candidates over time and want the CRM inside the ATS, and that are fine buying through a sales process.
Who should skip it
Small companies that want a price they can check today. Also note that onboarding, which Workable includes, is a paid add-on at Lever.

- The trial includes 100,000 AI credits that never expire.
Cons

- Scorecards need Growth and HRIS integrations need Business.
- Texting, extra AI credits and onboarding cost extra.
Who should use it
Small businesses that want a free start or a flat, published price, and that value video interviews and self-scheduling without paying extra for them.
Who should skip it
Teams that want HR modules in the same subscription. Breezy's onboarding is a paid add-on (Onboard, from $49/month), and HRIS integrations start at Business.
JazzHR review
JazzHR, an Employ product, has the lowest published paid entry price on this page. It covers the ATS basics with simple flat plans, and it offers monthly billing on every plan.
Key features
- One-click job syndication to free boards (Indeed, LinkedIn, Glassdoor, ZipRecruiter and others) plus premium listings.
- Custom workflow stages, knockout questions and a resume parser.
- Interview guides, evaluation templates and a recruiting calendar with Google and Outlook sync.
- AI-powered candidate matching on Plus and Pro.
Pricing
- Hero: $1,000/year billed annually or $110/month billed monthly. Job postings starting at 3/month, ATS, email templates, LinkedIn Recruiter integration and premium job listings.

- Pro: $5,508/year or $549/month. Adds offers and e-signatures, advanced visual reporting, a custom report builder, workflow reports and all-access support.
Paying yearly saves up to 24%. Some add-ons use consumption-based pricing. The Pro card lists offers, e-signatures and advanced visual reporting as included, but the comparison table marks them as add-ons, so confirm with JazzHR. Standard pricing does not apply to agencies, HR service providers, franchises, multi-location businesses or organizations over 250 employees. There is no free plan; JazzHR offers a free try with no credit card, length not stated.
Pros
- Low entry price: $1,000/year or $110/month.
- Monthly billing on every plan.
- Structured interview guides and evaluation templates.
Cons
- Hero limits job postings (starting at 3/month).
- AI matching and automation need Plus; offers and e-signatures need Pro.
- No native mobile app, only a mobile-optimized web interface. Candidate texting is sold as a separate product.
Who should use it
Small businesses (250 employees or fewer) that want a low-cost ATS with broad job posting and a simple flat plan, and that are fine without bundled HR modules.
Who should skip it
Multi-location businesses and franchises (standard pricing does not apply), and teams that want a native mobile app.

Head-to-Head Comparison
Pricing model and billing
Only Workable, Breezy HR and JazzHR publish prices. Workable prices by company size across nine tiers. Breezy HR has flat plans that are not priced per user. JazzHR has flat plans, but standard pricing excludes agencies, franchises, multi-location businesses and companies over 250 employees. Of the quote-only tools, Tellent Recruitee prices by company size with a one-year minimum.
Free plans and trials
Only Breezy HR has a free plan (1 active position or pool). Trials: Breezy HR 14 days, Workable 15 days, Tellent Recruitee 18 days, all without a credit card. JazzHR offers a free try of unstated length. Greenhouse, Lever and Teamtailor mention demos only.
Job boards and structured interviews
Tellent Recruitee lists the widest reach (2,900+ boards), then Workable (200+) and Breezy HR (50+, even on the free plan). Greenhouse posts free to built-in boards on every tier; JazzHR and Lever push to free boards such as Indeed and LinkedIn plus paid listings.
For structured interviews, Workable and Greenhouse include kits and scorecards on their entry plans. Breezy HR needs Growth and JazzHR lists structured interviews on Plus. Lever generates scorecards from AI interview transcripts.
AI and how it is billed
Workable and Breezy HR meter AI by credits: Workable Agent packs start at $600 for 5,000 credits after 3,000 free ones, while Breezy Intelligence credits start at $30 per 100,000. Tellent Recruitee caps AI by plan (100 Screening credits and 3 Matching searches a month on Advance). Teamtailor includes AI with unlimited usage, and Lever includes unlimited AI interview transcripts and summaries. Greenhouse includes its AI Notetaker on all plans, and JazzHR adds AI matching on Plus.
HR modules
This is where Workable stands apart. HRIS, onboarding, time off, time tracking, e-signatures and payroll preparation are in every plan. Among the alternatives, onboarding is a paid add-on at Lever (Onboarding), Breezy HR (Onboard, from $49/month) and Tellent Recruitee (Journeys, plus the Tellent HR HRIS add-on). If you use Workable's HR side, add the cost of replacing it to any comparison.
Worked cost example: a 15-employee company hiring year-round
Take a 15-person company that keeps a few roles open all year. It needs more than one active job at a time, so Breezy HR's free plan (1 active position) does not fit. We use only published prices. Greenhouse, Lever, Tellent Recruitee and Teamtailor are quote only, so we leave them out of the math; get quotes from them for the same scenario.
At 15 employees, the company is in Workable's 1-20 tier and well under JazzHR's 250-employee limit.
Scenario 1: entry-level paid plan, billed annually
- Workable Standard: $299 x 12 = $3,588/year
- Breezy HR Startup: $157 x 12 = $1,884/year (includes self-scheduling and video interviews)
- JazzHR Hero: $1,000/year (job postings starting at 3/month)
Scenario 2: structured interviews with scorecards, billed annually
- Workable Standard (interview kits and scorecards included): $3,588/year
- Breezy HR Growth (scorecards and interview guides): $273 x 12 = $3,276/year
- JazzHR Plus (structured interviews and assessments, up to 200 active jobs): $3,480/year
The three are close here. Breezy HR Growth is $312/year less than Workable Standard ($3,588 - $3,276), and JazzHR Plus is $108/year less ($3,588 - $3,480).
Scenario 3: scorecards plus texting and video interviews, billed annually
- Workable Standard + Texting ($89) + Video interviews ($109): $299 + $89 + $109 = $497/month, x 12 = $5,964/year
- Workable Premier (includes texting, video, assessments and referrals): $7,188/year
- Breezy HR Growth + SMS add-on (from $41/month): $273 + $41 = $314/month, x 12 = $3,768/year (video interviews are already included from Startup)
Breezy HR comes out $2,196/year below Workable Standard with add-ons ($5,964 - $3,768). We leave JazzHR out of this scenario because its candidate texting is a separate product with no published price.
Monthly billing instead
If you do not want a yearly contract: Workable Standard is $360 x 12 = $4,320/year, Breezy HR Growth is $329 x 12 = $3,948/year, and JazzHR Plus is $350 x 12 = $4,200/year.
Two cautions. First, these figures leave out AI usage beyond each tool's included credits. Second, if you use Workable's HRIS, time off or onboarding, the savings shrink by whatever you pay to replace them.
How to Choose: Decision Framework
Questions to answer first
- Do you use Workable's HR modules? If yes, price a replacement HR tool before you switch, or stay.
- How many roles are open at once? One role fits Breezy HR's free plan. Up to 5 fits Recruitee Start. JazzHR Hero lists job postings starting at 3/month.
- Do you need a published price to get approval? Among the alternatives, only Breezy HR and JazzHR publish prices.
- How structured is your interviewing? If many hiring managers need the same kits and scorecards, look at Greenhouse, or Breezy HR Growth and JazzHR Plus on a budget.
- Do you nurture candidates over months? Lever's combined ATS and CRM, or Teamtailor's talent pools and CRM, are built for that.
- Is your careers site a main channel? Teamtailor is built around it; Recruitee adds multi-language and multi-location sites on Advance.
Red flags
- A minimum one-year commitment when you wanted monthly billing (Tellent Recruitee).
- Pricing that does not apply to your business type (JazzHR excludes agencies, franchises, multi-location businesses and companies over 250 employees).
- AI billed by credits, so the total cost depends on how much you use it (Workable, Breezy HR).
What to test in a demo or trial
- Post a real job and check which boards it reaches and how fast applicants show up.
- Build one interview kit and scorecard, then have a hiring manager fill it in.
- Book an interview through self-scheduling with your real calendars.
- Ask how candidate data and history move in, and how you would export them later.
- Ask quote-only vendors for a written price for your company size, including add-ons and the billing term.
The Verdict: Final Recommendations
1. Workable: stay if you use the HR side
If your team uses the HRIS, onboarding and time off modules, Workable's $299/month (billed annually, 1-20 employees) covers more than an ATS. Leaving means paying for those separately.
2. Greenhouse: best for structured hiring
Interview kits, scorecards and the AI Notetaker on every plan, but quote-only pricing.
3. Lever: best ATS plus candidate CRM
Pick it if nurture campaigns and unlimited AI transcripts matter more than a published price.
4. Breezy HR: our pick for small teams leaving Workable
A free plan, flat published prices and video interviews from Startup. In our 15-employee example, Growth with SMS costs $3,768/year against $5,964/year for Workable Standard with texting and video.
5. JazzHR: lowest paid entry price
At $1,000/year for Hero, it is the cheapest published paid plan here. Standard pricing does not apply to companies over 250 employees. Plus at $3,480/year adds structured interviews and AI matching.
6. Tellent Recruitee: widest job board reach
2,900+ boards and multi-language careers sites, with a quote and a one-year minimum.
7. Teamtailor: best for employer branding
Career sites, unlimited users and job posts, and unlimited AI usage under one quote.
Conclusion
Most small and mid-size teams leave Workable because of the price structure: headcount tiers, no free plan, paid add-ons on Standard and metered AI. If cost is the main reason, Breezy HR and JazzHR are the only alternatives here with published prices, and both come in under Workable at comparable feature levels. If you want more structure, Greenhouse and Lever are stronger but quote only. If your careers site matters most, look at Teamtailor. Before you switch, check whether you rely on Workable's bundled HR modules, because none of the alternatives here lists the same HR bundle in its plans.
